USA Rapidly Becoming a Pariah State

As a Norwegian, for the first time in my life I actually find myself slightly apprehensive about US troops on Norwegian soil. Do I think they will suddenly take over the country? Of course not. But I'm gradually coming to see the US as an enemy country, now that president Elonia is at the helm.

The US is an enemy country. It sides with Russia. It repeats Russian propaganda. It rips up international trade and security agreements. It imposes blanket tariffs on (now former) allies. This is the new world order.

And this is only week 5 or 6 of at least 4 years.

Until the Republicans, MAGA and Trump are history the US is an enemy of Europe and the UK.

Also, it adds to the massive election interference we're already experiencing from russia and China. Hard times ahead.

i agree, europe will need to remain more diligent than the us did about allowing these foreign influences to influence their politicians. or they may find themselves in a similar position

Yep. Kind of ironic that social media is the perfect tool to drive wedges between people!

If only the US citizens who want sanity and some semblance of ethics and reason restored to their politics had easy access to a technology that allowed them to carry out and coordinate public written attacks on Trump and Musk, with both constantly reminded of how much what they do and stand for is hated by tens if not hundreds of millions of Americans. Every. Single. Day. #1 trending topic.

Don't forget us here in the great white north! At least you have a "big, beautiful ocean" between you and the US. We have nothing more than a line on a map that is longer than our tiny armed forces can even defend.

If the EU is looking to expand, they could do worse than Canada.

Beyond that, I think NATO is basically dead, or at least on life support at this point. If there is no mechanism to boot the US out of it, I wouldn't be against the other members forming a new defensive alliance.

My wife is Canadian. The call to her parents each week is largely how much Trump's latest insanity has annoyed her mom!

I fully expect to see US armed forces cross the border into Canada in the next 4 years. The USA, as an entity, is showing itself to be exactly that deranged.

I don't, unless it's a genuine accident or at the request of the Canadians

"Request of Canadians"?:ROFLMAO: I didn't know there were MAGArats in Wales. One of the most bizarre comments I have seen on any topic in my twenty years on this forum!
More bizarre than "I fully expect US armed forces to cross the border into Canada in the next four years?", really?

Yup. Trump wants Canada as a state. He is known to be irrational. And commander in chief of the US armed forces. He has a history of doing irrational things to get his way. All bets are off with him. No current Canadian politician is quite irrational enough to invite him to send in his forces.

In a sane universe you would think that's the point that Trump gets removed from office, but given the current state of the USA I'm sure they will cheer Trump on so long as he promises it will somehow lower the price of eggs from $10 each, though that is obviously less than under Biden and anyone who says otherwise is a lying traitor.

I'm not sure if it will happen within 4 years but I am also convinced that it will happen at some point and for a reason that doesn't get talked about enough. Many parts of america are running out of fresh water due to severe overuse and that trend is not slowing down. When americans start running out of water, they won't change their habits, they'll find more water and take it by force. And Canada has abundant fresh water. Maybe more than any other country in the world.

That's why when I hear trump and others talk about "all that water up north" I start to sweat.

So yes the war is coming, and water will be the prize.

Norwegian shop renames 'American pancakes' (which are eaten in stacks, unike the Euro variant that's eaten like tortillas). They're Canadian pancakes now. They've reported increased sales

Whenerev I visit the UK, people hear my accent and assume I'm american. When I correct them and say I'm Canadian, their eyes light up like someone just gave them a puppy.

The USA has made a bad habit of building water intensive systems, from agriculture to golf courses to cities in places with limited sources. With aquifers drying up and reducing rainfall some major population centres are headed for disaster, so yeah I can see some USA President making a grab for water. Only upside is by then the USA may be so broken they won't have the strength left to do it.

And I'll add that I'm not saying Canadians are any more virtuous than americans in their water use. If we had the climate to grow water intensive crops like avacados etc here we would be doing it too. Its just that we have probably 3x the volume of water and 1/9 the population so water shortages are not really a thing here.

Water will be the new spice.

Or is Canada Waterworld?

Aww, you're so cute!

When I went to UK I got a lot of that too. As an American, and travelling to UK, I'd probably just say I'm Canadian. Not like anybody's going to ask for proof.

Because they're probably afraid you'll be carrying a gun

Just don't overdo your "aboots", "sore-wy's", back bacon, and politeness.

Too much can give you away.

I doon't know what your talkin aboot at all

If you want to pass as Canadian when abroad, add a dab of maple syrup to your hands. Give a slightly sticky handshake and no one will doubt your bonafides. Protip: You can use this trick IN Canada also but you have to use real maple syrup. That Aunt Jemima ◊◊◊◊ ain't fooling anyone here.

Make that weakness an advantage. Easy to cross into the USA. Easy to pass as an American. Easy to sabotage infrastructure and cripple the US economy. Easy to create ecological disasters. And if I could only share, but never will, but only encourage thought about how to accomplish it, easy to take down a 2 meter tall farmboy on steroids without guns or other visible weapons if he is up close. Best if he keeps his guard down (not a clue, so a safe example, but think of the bobbit worm; this is the virulent attack you need the functional equivalent of).

ETA: For arresting American goons, even if you have no eyes or ears: You threatened us, we didn't threaten you, we were your loyal allies, even your fellow citizens. Your fault. Man up and face it for once, crybaby snowflake and unmanly popgun pansy.

Nothing. Amerika voted them in and wants Krasnov and Leon Muskrat to disable the USA and nobody can stop them. I give up. I love Big Brother.
Trump just loves people like you. You are his best friends.

Didnot work all the well last time it was tried.
Gauranted, an invasion of Canada would cause a massive uprising that woold make the response to the Viernam War look mild in comprasion.
Of course it might just be Trump bs'ing, which he does a lot of.

A Canada needs to start spending a lot more on it;w own defense.
B. No reason to from a new alliance, just keep NATO with the knolwedge that US will be on the sidelines at best.

I don't disagree that we need to spend more, that much is true. But the problem is we are almost the size of Russia with a population the size of California. There simply isn't a way we can build a military that will effectively defend our land border as well as the enormous coast we have without US hegemony. I wish it were otherwise, but it isn't.

To a degree, Ukraine is showing the way to having an effective military on the cheap. Sparsely populated areas are best defended electronically, relying on drones out of mobile bases to respond. Much to be said for drone torpedoes as well. The real problem is the 800lb gorilla, calling for guerilla warfare and MUM-T tactics.

Assume for a moment the money behind Trump does want authoritarian government. The next step is getting a better Trump, at least in terms of being a more effective and consistent fascist and quicker on his feet. Always good to prepare for the worst.

I would love to see a Mexico-Canada-EU love triangle. Platonic, of course.

"To a degree" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here.

Drone warfare is expensive. Ukraine wouldn't be able to sustain it without outside help.

If Canadian means to sustain it, they need to invest now, and invest big, against the day when it comes down to that.

But Canadia has never had to invest heavily in national defense, and probably lacks the knowledge and the will to do it.

Probably?? I have to now stop and wonder if Canada has ever rallied the will to send fighting forces anywhere before...
