Indian source says both sides worked "directly" on truce after Trump says US mediated

From Aishwarya S. Iyer and CNN's Sophie Tanno
A source on the Indian side said the agreement to halt all military activity was worked out “directly between” India and Pakistan, despite US President Donald Trump’s announcement that the ceasefire was the result of a night of US mediation.
I don't know who to believe. There's no way the leader of the free world would lie about such a thing. Is there?

He's desperate for a Nobel Peace Prize. He would take credit for two 5 year olds in Boise stopping arguing about who gets to go down the playground slide first.

You forgot to mention that he would have both of them deported to El Salvador to protect our national security.

The U.K. trade deal is great -- for the U.K.

The White House is hailing a new trade deal with the United Kingdom as "a great deal for America."

But is it a great deal for Americans? The specifics of the deal seem to suggest otherwise.

The agreement maintains the 10 percent universal tariff that President Donald Trump imposed on nearly all imports to the United States. But even the president admits this is a tariff hike on American consumers, rather than a reduction.

The point of comparison should be the average tariff rate on imports from the U.K. before Trump took office. In 2023, the most recent year for which full data are available, the average U.S. tariff on British goods was 3.3 percent.

That means this "deal" charges American consumers a 10 percent baseline tax on goods that were previously taxed at 3.3 percent. That's not a win for free trade or lower prices.

Meanwhile, it is British consumers who will benefit from lower tariffs. According to the White House, the deal means that American exports to the U.K. will now face an average tariff rate of 1.8 percent, down from 5.1 percent before the deal. (In 2023, average U.K. tariffs on American goods were 3.8 percent, so that 5.1 percent figure seems inflated).

Trump once again kidding himself that something is new just because he heard it for the first time.
Voluntary Return has been a component of migration since forever.

You mean my family could've bought one-way flights to Disneyland and then got free flights home!?! Damn, as a Scot I'm severely disappointed at my lack of frugality.

Like I said in another post, they're drooling to do this, gagging to . . .

Democratic members of Congress who were part of a scuffle with law enforcement officers at an ICE facility in New Jersey may face arrests, the Department of Homeland Security confirmed to Axios Saturday.

Why it matters: It would be a major escalation in the Trump administration's arrests of politicians and other public servants, including the mayor of Newark and a judge in Milwaukee.

  • DHS is accusing the House Democrats of assaulting law enforcement. The lawmakers say they were the ones who were assaulted.
  • The lawmakers involved in the incident: Reps. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-N.J.), Rob Menendez (D-N.J.) and LaMonica McIver (D-N.J.).
What they're saying: DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said in a CNN interview on Saturday morning that "there will likely be more arrests coming."

  • "We actually have body camera footage of these members of Congress assaulting these ICE enforcement officers, including body slamming a female ICE officer," she added.
  • McLaughlin said there is an "ongoing investigation" and that arresting the lawmakers is "definitely on the table."
  • She confirmed in a text message to Axios that the House Democrats may be arrested.
The other side: "Threatening to arrest Members of Congress for exercising their lawful oversight authority is another example of this administration abusing its power to try to intimidate anyone to stands up to them," said a spokesperson for Watson Coleman.

  • The spokesperson said their office has "reviewed the body came footage" and that it proves "ICE agents put their hands on Members of Congress ... it also proves that DHS has been lying about this incident."
  • "We're honestly surprised they released this footage given that it so wholly contradicts their claims. Nobody was 'body slammed' nobody 'assaulted' any agents, and this footage confirms that."
Zoom in: McIver said at a press conference Friday after the incident that she was "assaulted by multiple ICE officers while regional directors of ICE watched it happen."
  • "Nobody offered an apology or said anything to me about what occurred out here," she added.
  • House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) stood by his members in a statement saying "the masked agents who physically accosted two Congresswomen must be identified immediately."
What happened: The lawmakers and ICE officers got into a physical confrontation over the arrest of Newark Mayor Ras Baraka for allegedly trespassing at the Delaney Hall detention center in Newark.

  • The Democrats were there protesting the reopening of the facility to hold migrants, arguing that the private prison company operating it has failed to obtain the proper sanitation and safety permits.

Well that was brief, well done Donald.

India and Pakistan accuse each other of ‘violations’ after ceasefire deal

India and Pakistan are accusing each other of "violations" following a ceasefire deal reached earlier today
India says its forces are "giving an appropriate response", while Pakistan says it's "handling the situation with responsibility and restraint"
Sounds of explosions have been heard by BBC teams in Indian-administered Kashmir - it's unclear where these are coming from

Okay, so it's clearly combining the 95% strongly and 4% somewhat to arrive at a 99% approval rate. But WTF do those dates even mean? If they are dates (and what else could they be?) they jump from February to August, to March and then back to February. And who is this supposed to be a poll of? Is this a national poll, or a poll of people in Trump's last cabinet meeting? Is it a poll of people wearing "he can grab my pussy" T-shirts at his last rally? What institution or agency collected and compiled the data this graph purports to represent?

It sure looks like someone was trying to soothe Trump with some ego stroking ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ whipped up by a flunky with a poor understanding of how graphs work to try to pull him out of a temper tantrum or deep funk. "Look, Mr. President! Even the 1% who disapprove only do so somewhat. See? You really are a great guy beloved by everyone!"

One thing I'm sure of: this will be posted all over social media by the same idiots who post national maps of electoral college results thinking that they prove a "red wave".

trump: “We’re going back to plastic straws."

People wonder about trump's preoccupation with drinking straws. But if they ever saw him try to drink water without one they wouldn't wonder.

By the way, that 'poll' with the 99% approval rating is labeled "CPAC." AKA Conservative Political Action Conference.

The dates are month and year, not month and day. I think it is a poll of attendees of CPAC.
