Trump's Second Term

yeah but look at how lame he sounds
Better than nothing, of course, lame as it is. A bit like Trump sending that letter to Turkey when it came to the Kurds.

Trump's actions when it came to the Kurds still end up as him disarming and betraying the Kurds, of course, but that he sent a symbolic letter that was immediately thrown in the trash isn't really something to count against him. That he didn't follow through with the threat, of course, showed how impotent he is and how little his words mean.

I'd give Trump a firm 0 points on Blue Mountain's scale for the Stop it, Putin! post for much the same reason that I'd give a 0 for that letter.

I wonder if he's going to (get someone to) come up with a National logo, like the swastika but not exactly. I thought I'd already seen something like that, but he'd be saving the major push for when he needs to distract from something else.
A bald eagle, just as used on the presidential seal is iconic enough shirley?

I'm including this in my list for today, but am actually scoring it as a positive. Trump's actually saying something against Putin and cozying up to him like he usually does.
Pootie (on the red phone): Hey, Donny! How you been buddy.
Trump: Fine, thanks, Mr Vladimir sir. Good morning sir! How are my bank balances?
Pootie: Not talk about that now. Listen. I got little something you can do for me OK?
Trump: Yes, Vladimir sir! Anything, as long as my bank balances are OK...
Pootie: Will be if you do me this one favour. Just say in US media you tell me to not want all Ukraine. Just stop where glorious Red Army is now. Only get to keep what we conquer now. OK? You got it?
Trump: Yes sir Mr Vladimir. I have to tell you to not take over all Ukraine. I'll get my people on it right away.
Pootie: And make it sound strong! You know, strong?
Trump: Yes sir! I can sound strong!
Pootie: I hope you can and not like talking orange chicken's arsehole. Then I can look like good guy and you look like strong man! Is win-win! OK?
Trump: Yes sir Mr Vladimir! I'll get on it right away sir! Goodbye sir! Have a good day sir!
Pootie: Is night time here...idiot.

China says there are no negotiations with the US over tariffs

China has denied U_S_ President Donald Trump’s assertion that the two sides were involved in active negotiations over tariffs, saying that any suggestion of progress in this matter was as groundless as “trying to catch the wind.”

It has come to something when Communist China contradicts Trump, and we can believe China's version of events more than we can believe Trump. Because the one "reliable" thing about Trump is knowing that he lies all the time.

Almost but not quite what you find at the WWII monument on the Mall, the most shockingly un-self-aware design in the area, save for the "warning signs of fascism" list in the Holocaust museum.

EARLY WARNING SIGNS OF FASCISM
Powerful and continuing nationalism
Disdain for human rights
Identification of enemies as a unifying cause
Rampant sexism
Controlled mass media
Obsession with national security
Religion and government intertwined
Corporate power protected
Labor power suppressed
Disdain for intellectual and the arts
Obsession with crime and punishment
Rampant cronyism and corruption

Israel, hello? Can you read English? What's that? "Can't hear you over the bombs!"? Whoa.

My wife told me this over dinner.

US FDA suspends milk quality tests amid workforce cuts

I consume a lot of milk, so this is one of those ugh things. Nowhere close to as bad as so much of the rest, but here's hoping not to get diarrhea randomly as a direct result of Trump and Musk being saboteurs.
Don't forget the possibility of Brucellosis. Pretty nasty, not common, but if your milk is unpasteurized there is still the risk. I was part of the government agency that was tasked to eliminate it from the UK herd in the 1970's . I've never drunk raw milk since then. We had access to raw milk at the lab where we had our own herd of control cattle. Loved it then, not now.

Sorry, ◊◊◊◊◊◊ quotes
Dang nab it, milk drinker her too (1%). Had a shot at raw milk at my great aunt's farm, 50 odd years ago, but never partook. Rather not now as well !!

I just got back from the grocery store and you are a lying sack of ◊◊◊◊. Also too, purchased gas yesterday and paid the same price I've been paying for a few months now.

Is everything he says now just going to be a lie?
Now?!? When wasn't it so? Yes, most everything he says has been and will be false. Some portion of that will be things he knows to be false, hence lies. Got him where he is now, so gott'a go with what works.

I'd score it a net zero at best. Sure he 'stood up' to Putin, but he still sounded like a pansy doing it.

I'd give Trump a firm 0 points on Blue Mountain's scale for the Stop it, Putin! post for much the same reason that I'd give a 0 for that letter.
Based on this, I'm giving a zero score to that item.

As of the close of the day on April 24, my positive/negative score on the Trump administration stands at -539.

-1: Headline: ‘I am horrified’: Why autistic people say RFK Jr.’s comments on autism are so dangerous (CBC) [168]
-1: Headline: A ‘madman’ penalty: Are Trump’s actions eroding U.S. economic power? (CBC)

167. Trump: “I am not happy with the Russian strikes on KYIV. Not necessary, and very bad timing. Vladimir, STOP! 5000 soldiers a week are dying. Let’s get the Peace Deal DONE!”

168. RFK Jr: “These are kids who will never pay taxes. They’ll never hold a job. They’ll never play baseball. They’ll never write a poem. They’ll never go out on a date.”

169. Trump: “Gas and grocery prices are WAY DOWN, just like I said they would be. Eggs are plentiful, and down 87%. NICE!” (Since his inauguration on January 22, egg prices have dropped 48% from $6.56 per dozen to $3.16. And they’ve dropped 61% from their record high of $8.17 on March 4. However, they’re still 105% more expensive that the 12 month low of $1.54 recorded on 14 May 2024.)

Fake patriotism, perhaps. The kind that's all about show, not substance. Actual patriotism is not measured by outside show, though, but rather inner feelings, and any who has a need to make a big show of celebrating it is far more likely to be running a con.

Trump, in particular, has long shown with his actions that he's no patriot at all. Much could be said of many Republicans, though, and likely all who have chosen to support Republican sabotage the US for political gain strategies like the Two Santa Clauses Strategy.
Those that don't really have it inside, the real meaning of the U.S., must display the pretense of just 'us' on the outside. Least you get to know who they are.

This is what you get for appointing a anti-vax person to be the Secretary of Health and Human Services.

""These are kids who will never pay taxes. They'll never hold a job. They'll never play baseball. They'll never write a poem. They'll never go out on a date," he told reporters."

Hmmm...my daughter is on the autism spectrum. She's steadily held a job since her college graduation 10 years ago. As a computer engineer who works on programming digital flight instrumentation for planes and helicopters and makes a damn good living at it, she sure does pay taxes. But he's right; she's never played baseball. Worthless, isn't she?

Eggs in fact have dropped in price, just not by the percentage amounts Trump boasts they have. Here's a chart from Trading Economics with prices over the last year to today:

Didn't the bird flu vaccine developed under Biden have something to do with the price drop?

Since his inauguration on January 22, looks like prices increased from about $6 and change (from the graphic) to their record high of $8.17 then dropped (ETA: a month and a half later), because ... something . "correlation is not causation"

Spurious Correlations

Trump never pays taxes, has he ever played baseball? I bet he's never written a poem, and is it a date if you pay for it?

I now find myself wondering who Trump's negotiators are negotiating with, if China insist it's not them. Do you suppose they're haggling with a delegation from Taiwan and haven't realised they're the other China?

Donald has pardoned former Las Vegas City Councilwoman Michele Fiore, who was convicted of defrauding donors who believed they were contributing to a memorial for a fallen Las Vegas Metro Police officer. Fiore used some of the stolen money to pay for plastic surgery.

She must have held a bit in reserve to bribe Donny into the pardon.

He pardoned her of the crime she committed because if she hadn't been such a strident Trumpist, people would have been paying less attention to her and may not have spotted her criminality. If she'd kept quiet she might well have just got away with the theft, and justice demands that criminals should face an equal and fair opportunity of being caught. It's so unfair that people who thrust themselves into the spotlight have this nasty spotlight on them.

I'm sorry, but this source has got to be nonsense.

Eggs haven't gone down in price near me, if anything they have gone up as the "bargain" grocery stores (Aldi, etc) have had to raise prices as well.

AP reports eggs reached an all-time high just two weeks ago.

Trading economics says it uses wholesale prices. All I can say is I don't see any of these drops they have claimed.

Usually, if I stretch my imagination until it snaps, I can just about work out which bit of common knowledge Trump has just been exposed to for the first time and tried - and abysmally failed - to understand, and which he is now attempting to repeat. But I have to admit I am totally foxed by that. What on earth did someone try to explain to him, which he has completely misunderstood and regurgitated as that drivel?

FactCheck.org seems to agree with you...

Egg Prices

Contrary to what Trump claimed, average retail egg prices paid by consumers were still increasing last month, according to the latest Bureau of Labor Statistics data that is publicly available. In March, the nationwide average price for a dozen grade A white eggs was about $6.23 – up 5.6% from $5.90 in February, and up 25.7% from $4.95 in January.

Average grocery prices overall went up in March as well, contradicting Trump’s April 18 claim that “groceries are down,” too. The Consumer Price Index for at-home food items increased 0.49% from February — the last monthly decrease in the CPI was in March 2024.

April data on retail egg prices, and grocery prices, will be published in May. The average retail price of eggs would have to fall to about $0.35 a dozen for Trump’s claim of a “93%, 94%” price drop to be accurate.

Trump has previously referred to wholesale prices when claiming that egg prices have decreased by large percentages. The wholesale price is what retailers pay to farmers and other egg producers to procure eggs to sell in their stores.

But even wholesale prices haven’t declined by more that 90%.

As of April 18, the average wholesale price for graded, loose, white large shell eggs was $3.13 per dozen, according to the Department of Agriculture. That was down about 47% from the average price of about $5.87 on Jan. 17, days before Trump was sworn into office again.

The USDA will release its updated wholesale price data on April 25.
