Three thugs in Louisiana batter and rape a 76-year-old woman.

They are all in their teens and the story reports that they are cooperating. If they get found guilty, they are going away for a long time. Was it worth it, for them? It's one thing to break into a house and steal things but what is it that draws certain people in to completely victimizing another human being? I just can't understand that.

:(

I keep thinking that as I get older and less attractive to the younger set that I don't have to worry much about my personal security.

Apparently not. :(

I was looking over the LA statutes on this. This is aggravated rape because the victim was over 65 and because there were more than one offender.

Aggravated rape in LA means a mandatory life sentence, no parole. Have fun spending the rest of your worthless lives in prison, scumbags!

Perhaps we can say goodbye to three members of the underclass (being discussed in a thread here).

Where is a Bernard Goetz or George Zimmerman when he was needed?

At taxpayer expense. I'd rather they were raped by a large # of inmates first, then shot. Also videotape this and show it to "at risk" teens across the country.

And of course the news page is filled with racist comments.

Without exception... every single time there is a news story involving a black guy.... it's filled with racist comments.

The racists are right about one thing. If this was a story about how 3 white guys raped a 76 year old black women... this would never be off CNN.

Yeah, rape can be so awesome when people really deserve their raping! Maybe we should let people line up and take turns, maybe you'd like to try your hand at it? After all, it's a fine thing when deserved.

I love the ones in there that start off sounding; I'm not racist but... then they go on to show a "problem" with a particular race.

If you have a problem with a particular race shouldn't you preface your comments with I'm not racist?

I'm not a racist, but I have noticed an awful lot of humans seem to like to degrade and brutalize others. You gotta wonder why!! Just pointing out the truth here!!

Bigot. :p

(ETA: I love the word "bigot"! How awful am I?!)

Do we show it before or after the abstinence only lecture?

If you have a problem with a particular race then you are a racist.

Good then that makes almost anyone racist.

If you were a Japanese American during WW2 and you had a problem with the way white people were treating you.... then you were apparently racist.... That's good thinking right there.

You were if you assumed it was becuase they were White..

In any c ase, I can't say I'm sad they're getting life without parole if convicted, but I really don't think we should cheer on prison rape.

If you assumed they were treating you badly because they were white, you would have been exactly right. There is nothing wrong with that. If you were to assume that there is something inherently wrong with someone because they are white... then maybe you are a racist.

Please restate that in plain English.

Really? You can't understand that?

If you are black and you believe you have to be careful walking around in white neighborhoods because you may have a white guy call the cops on you.... you are not a racist. If you believe that the reason they might call the cops on you is because they are white and you are black... you would be correct... and there is nothing wrong with that.

If you believe as a black person, that whites have a genetic problem... as to make them harbor hatred towards black people... then yes they may be a racist.....

I can generically agree with that.

The problem is that people kind of confuse race and culture (without getting into the debate if there is such thing as race (I'm defining race as how society generally defines race)).

Personally I can find a problem with most any culture... and I admire things about a lot of cultures.

When people say they have a problem with black people, they usually mean they have a problem with some aspect of American black culture..... I don't think that is racist at all. It can be, depending who is making the argument. But if you can make a decent argument against a problem with you see in any specific culture... I have no problem with it.

I've noticed that most people who say they have a problem with black culture in the US, often have no insight into any aspect of Black American culture. They're usually the guys who claim that baggy clothes or do-rags are about "looking like criminals", or that black people "hate Bill Cosby".

Which is not to say that this sort of crime is acceptable. Obviously, the attackers should go to jail for a long time.

Uhh... WTF?

"treating you badly because they were white" is right -- how does that not imply that "there is something inherently wrong with them because they are white"?

Because it is learned behavior and not genetic. If you were black in the 1950's and you saw a pretty girl who was white, you are perfectly fine to make negative judgments about that persons character based solely on skin color. You should not be making a genetic connection... though I doubt many people think that in depth about it. That's not to say, you shouldn't keep an open mind about people. But you use what information you have to make quick initial assessments... So the black guy in the bar in the 1950's (if they were allowed in the bar) should probably tread carefully before striking up a conversation with a white woman.... based solely on the negative characteristics associated with white people of the time.

Does what you've said here in this post mean that one better think "criminal" when one sees "black person"?

Not at all..... But hey I guess if that's the first thing you thought of, then I guess we know who may have racist tendencies.

And of course the news page is filled with racist comments.

Even those who try NOT to be racist somehow manage it:

And the "race" is irrelevant. White people are not genetically good people and black people are not genetically bad people. Most black people are not this evil.

So they're evil, but geez, not THAT evil.

which white people, the Nazis or the US americans? your example fails.

Something similar to this occurred in Tulsa, Oklahoma in March. A 20-year-old thug broke into an elderly couples home, raped and beat the 85-year-old woman to death and beat the 90-year-old husband bad enough that he died a few weeks later in the hospital. Disgusting.

The problems just on these threads distinguishing between race (breakdowns of humanity on perceived physiological features by ethnologists/anthropologists) and cultures (many multi-ethnic/race ) are amazing. Never could get over Hispanic as a race..............

Never understood the premise of thugs attacking the weak. Seriously.

It seems a big part of thug culture ( whether we are talking about gangstas or skinheads.) is being tough. That i get, no one wants to be a pansy. So i also get the constant fights with other gangs, the cops, etc. And i can even get the crime, one doesn't care about their effect on others, nothing i would do, but in the context of what they do, i get it.

But where exactly does hurting folks who can't fight back come into the equation? From a purely pragmatic standpoint, it does not show that one has any degree of skill in causing harm, your picking the easiest target, and doing something horrible. Maybe it can show a degree of ingenuity if one is doing it in some form of inventive manner, but even then, a knocked out opponent of equal or greater stature to ones self can have all the same things done, and you had to work to get there.

It just boggles my mind, i can put aside all my moral qualms about what they do, and i still can't wrap my head around physically hurting those who are very weak.
