To borrow from something from a while ago, but still so very relevant -

There are, I think, four freedoms we can glean from the Republican program.

There is the freedom to control — to restrict the bodily autonomy of women and repress the existence of anyone who does not conform to traditional gender roles.

There is the freedom to exploit — to allow the owners of business and capital to weaken labor and take advantage of workers as they see fit.

There is the freedom to censor — to suppress ideas that challenge and threaten the ideologies of the ruling class.

And there is the freedom to menace — to carry weapons wherever you please, to brandish them in public, to turn the right of self-defense into a right to threaten other people.

Roosevelt’s four freedoms were the building blocks of a humane society — a social democratic aspiration for egalitarians then and now. These Republican freedoms are also building blocks not of a humane society but of a rigid and hierarchical one, in which you can either dominate or be dominated.

Trumps regime revokes guidance for emergency abortions

Well, at least women are protected from trans people playing sports. I'm sure that will be a comfort to the families of all those that will be killed due to this new measure.
But at least the unborn fetus will survive a few hours longer. Heck maybe they can even keep the baby-carrier artificially alive so it can be born. (all costs to go to the family of course).

The authorities tried that in Ireland a few years ago (shortly after the Savita Halappanavar case). Reading about it made my stomach churn.

We were assured by some posters here that this sort of thing would never happen, and that women in West Virginia did not need to take any special precautions against it becoming widely known they, or someone close to them, had fallen pregnant.

What say they now? We'll never know, because they have all slithered away.

Even before the recent erosion of women's rights there have been dozens of such cases, Britain, USA, Czechia....

I think I linked to that some time ago in some thread (hard to keep track these days, and not a criticism), and it's also important in this case to note that the fetus being kept alive is almost certainly going to be at least seriously handicapped, if it lives at all.

e.t.a. not that one, I think. I think the one I remembered was in Georgia. Will have to look back. Yes, it's post #699 here.

In the Irish case the foetus had no chance of surviving to 20 weeks. The cocktail of drugs they were pumping into the mother were poisoning it.

In the "right to life" view the right of the unborn is supreme, after all, so it's worth any price for an unborn fetus to live a little longer. It's a little victory, but we're all going to die sometime, and God no doubt counts every beat of the heart. Viability is a liberal construct, and actually being born is dangerously close to being woke.
 
First thing Democrats should do when they take power again is nationalize abortion one demand rights through at least the 16th week.

Basically codify what Roe v Wade said.

Adriana Smith, the mother who was declared brain-dead in February, delivered her baby via C-Section Friday evening at Emory University Hospital Midtown. The newborn, named Chance, weighed in at one pound, thirteen ounces. He is currently in the neonatal intensive care unit.

April Newkirk, Adriana’s mother, told Atlanta’s NBC News affiliate, 11Alive, her daughter was about six months into her pregnancy. Tuesday, Smith was taken off of life support.

Smith was nine weeks pregnant before she suffered excruciating headaches. She was admitted to Northside Hospital, received medication and didn’t receive any tests. She was sent home. The next morning, her boyfriend says she was struggling to breathe while sleeping. After being admitted into Emory University Hospital Midtown, she underwent a CT scan and it was determined she suffered from blood clots.

I have been suggesting that the people who have been making a habit of bleating the loudest about "liberty" and "freedom", specially when Biden was president (and even more so, Obama) will be first in line to get fitted for the jackboots when the Trump regime starts handing them out (in fact, looking at some of those ICE people, I'm not sure we can rule out that they are already knowingly hiring militia types).

A certain amount of collateral damage is inevitable. The greater good and the will of God transcend the trivial attrition of the few. And now here she is, proof not only that the law has teeth, but that it's not discriminatory. Someone has to take one for the team. She should stand proud, After all, only the fallen get their relics in a golden box.
