Randi Posting?

Randi does not care what your thoughts are.
He has his own agenda and you are playing along.
Basic "ISM" stuff :)

I don't know if Randi would consider it a "waste of time"... that's kind of a loaded way of putting it that makes it sound like he disrespects his own message board. I think that's a bad assumption to make just by his absence.

It could be that he's simply not interested. A prominent website needs a forum, but it's not everyone's cup of tea.

Gee Mr. Gnome ... If there was a Forum named after YOU I'm sure you would participate :)
Randi posted here when it helped him. Now he doesn't need your help.
Just follow and quit asking questions!

I'm posting here against my better interests, not as a Randi sycophant or yes-man, but to attempt to illuminate, perhaps, why it might be that Randi might say that his posting here is a waste of time.

The forum is not the primary focus of the organisation. The organisation is focused on education. Hence it is the James Randi Educational Foundation and not the James Randi Forum Foundation. The Foundation provides the forum as a courtesy, an exercise in public relations, and a way for members and supporters to find and discuss information relating to the goals of the organisation. But the forum is not the focus of the JREF.

Since the forum was created it has grown in size. Rather a lot, in fact. I don't know the current count of registered members or active threads, but it is a very busy forum.

Randi does an awful lot for an 80-year old. I've seen men considerably younger wasting away in easy chairs in aged care facilities. He has more important things to do. He has activities to do that are far more relevant to the goals of the JREF than arguing with people online. Hence, his time would be wasted if he spent it posting here.

I don't think Randi would say that the forum was a waste of time, only that it would be a waste of his time for him to post here regularly. If Randi didn't approve of the forum, it wouldn't be here. He would shut it down. It costs the JREF a certain amount to keep running. Randi or Phil would close it if they didn't believe it served a worthwhile purpose.

Great post arthwollipot. Think that says it all.

As for the size of the forum 2,561 different people posted in this forum over the last 30 days. This number has been rather stable over the last 12 months, mainly because of performance issues.

To claim that Randi exploits members is just so obviously untrue that it is mindblowing why anyone would want to try such a blatant lie.

It's not clever or even funny, not even in a juvenile way. It's just mudslinging, in the desperate hope that something sticks.

I've written to him three times. Got two replies and got quoted in the Swift newsletter.
Ditto. In fact, I had to convince a friend that it was actually Randi replying. Mind you, this was before his recent hospitalisation. I think one of the reasons that Phil is now President of the JREF is that Randi's not getting any younger.

If Randi posted here, more often, some people would just accuse us of "following his lead", more often.

The Forum, without Randi on it so much, is evidence that we can think independently.

Of course, I for one, would still like to see him chime in, every once in a while, especially for official JREF business things. But, what can ya do?!

Randi has posted in the forums before and other places but it seems to be an increasingly rare occurrence.

Why is that? Is it a deliberate decision by Randi not to post?

I'm comparing Randi's activity with that of Richard Dawkins. Both are busy with their other activities, both are writing books and web content, attending events etc. and, at 67, Dawkins is not as venerable as Randi (80?) but does post often in both his forums and the comments sections of his articles.

Hi H3ll great to see you here. Did not know you posted on the JREF as well - it's Jerome btw. resident theist troll of RD.net - great forum anyone who has not seen it...

Slightly OT, Annoyingly Dawkins has been very quiet of late --

I was hoping for some kind of acknowledgement. Ah well, I tried - he's probably busy but I said I'd give up today and i will.

Agreed wholeheartedly. And as i have said many times before, I found James Randi a witty charming and surprisingly gentle communicator in my couple of email exchanges with him.

Yes, I have seen you there. However, I do not post as H3LL on the RD forums. If there is anyone there posting as H3LL (I couldn't find anyone with a search) they are not me.

It is quite a common Internet name and other than here, it is unlikely that other H3LLs are me.

I emailed him and got a reply within an hour!! Faster than most of my friends!

Oh and those posting that what The Professor says is untrue, everything he says is untrue!
O/T Did you all know that Jeff Wagg was deleting threads and locking them to hide evidence!!

Well according to The Professor

Since nearly everything he (TP) says is not true, than we can assume that Jeff Wagg hadn't deleted any threads or evidence regarding TP...
(Negate TP's statement and you have truth)

Absolutely,I don't believe him, just wanted to prove a point that by mentioning his claim it proves it to be a lie.:)

I think it makes sense that he doesn't post here. Nothing in the forum (or very little at least) is to be taken as gospel from the JREF. Much easier when the R himself doesn't post here.

..Just askin'.
Why are you asking us what James Randi is thinking? Most of us aren't in the running for the $ 1 million! ;)

Unless some study has been done that I'm not aware of, I'm going to suggest you don't kow why that number has been stable.

Mr. Randi is a very busy person. Although his chronological age is 80-ish, his mental acuity seems that of someone half his age. I believe this is because he keeps busy, stays engaged, and I wish he were my grandfather. :)
