Merged NJ Drones/Alien Mothership Drone Scare Thread'

Yes, but ...
New Jersey lawmaker says FBI statement on mysterious drones is not enough (CNN on YouTube, Dec 13, 2024 - 9:48 min.)
Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) tells CNN's Kate Bolduan that he believes the FBI and other officials should explain to residents in New Jersey what they know about mysterious drone sightings. He says state and local officials should be able to shoot the drones down if necessary.

ETA: It's very considerate of the Iranians (Chinese, Russians, Cubans, ETs, whatever) to make their spy and/or attack drones so easy to spot with blinking lights and all.

If I owned a quality camera drone and I saw "mysterious" drones flying around that everyone had been talking about, I'd be very tempted to launch my own drone to try to get a better look.

Result: drone flash mob.

Is this breeding behaviour? One often sees something similar in insects with mating flights where males will pursue females, the flashing lights are presumably to attract a mate? Or perhaps the flashing is in fact the excahnge of binary genetic material. One can hypothesise that subsequently fertilised drones (are they oviparous or viviparous, or perhaps some form of sporulation) will seek a suitable site to reproduce.

And then your drone is getting in the way of my drone so I need to strap a gun to my second drone to shoot yours out of the sky.

Result: The Drone Wars

I think you have a better chance of breeding if you stop playing with drones

They may not fear the FBI, but they do fear the FAA

So, its an interesting story. Some reports say the drones turn their lights off when folks try to take pictures, hard to imagine that's true. As for the size, who knows, in the sky at night? They could be tiny and up close or enormous and far away. The mothership thing is silly, the US controls its drones form continents away, no reason to think that almost anyone else could do that.

We should figure out what these are and who's operating them though.

Does nobody own a very bright flashlight?

Such s;

Imalent MS18 Flashlight:

Nitecore P35i Flashlight:

The latter has "1650 Metres of throw" and is demonstrated here:

Just asking. But if there is anything "up there" you might just be able to see it even if it turns its lights off.

Or a shotgun?

In many of the recordings, the alleged drones look like regular airplanes.
They would be out of reach of both flashlights and (hopefully) shotguns.

One of the drones crashed in the Jersey woods the other day. Police went in for like a half hour and made brief cryptic messages on their radios. Then they came out and said everything was fine.

*narrator's voice: Things were not fine*

The ones I referenced are pretty damn bright and would illuminate anything up to at least a mile high. I supposes that would at least establish a lower limit. ;)

Yeah. I saw some conspiracy-minded acquaintance of mine going wild about this and posting a video with the thumbnail saying something about “aliens”. Apparently there is a rabbit hole of progressively more insane theories ranging from foreign drones buzzing the US, US military “next gen technology”, to one of my favourites which is the Biden Administration “staging” an alien invasion to stop Trump becoming president.

Of course the latter is insane because trying to overturn elections is something the Trump side try to do and they have a larger number of UFO nuts as well so they believe it because the strategy would more likely fool them.

People like Stephen Greenstreet and Mick West (and others at Metabunk) have shown that many of the videos have prosaic explanations (commercial planes).

I did mention it in this thread

This has been insane, watching a mass hysteria event evolve in real-time. Every single i've seen has been obviously mundanely explainable and there's US senators, Police Officers, Trump etc all demanding investigations. Whitehouse, DHS, FBI etc all having to address it.

It's absolutely bonkers.

From that thread:

Yeah I saw that but that was labeled "enhanced" and without knowing what enhanced means it's hard to say if it is meaningful. And as you say that's not a formation.

One of the claimed sightings stated:

...Phillips County sheriff says there are at least 17 of the aircraft that fly between 7 and 10 p.m. nightly

....
And these are meant to have happened every night for a week and yet no video or photo?

The "enhanced" video doesn't with the most generous interpretation show anything like 17.

Another report mentioned a Denver Post *photographer* out with a sheriff and all he managed to capture was one photo of something that could be a singular drone.

Based on the evidence to date my view is that there are some folk flying drones at night in these areas. Just like there are in most places these days. There are not formations of multiple drones methodically moving in formation from "square" to square. We are seeing the same effect we always do when people start to say they've seen something they don't understand and other people start to show an interest. People start to notice "strange" things.

Is there a term for this type of behaviour, its akin to mass hysteria but without the hysteria?

The BBC had footage of a 'flying object' which very clearly had 4 white lights arranged in a rectangle.

I'll be creating some new structures in a short while around this particular event, but it requires a more systematic approach. In this case for example, it was unclear what was going on initially, so may very well have been some kind of hybrid attack. Overtime it's become clear it's mass hysteria (though of course possible nefarious actors are helping it along).

So "Current Affairs" first, then can later be moved to an appropriate location when the fog of war is less.
When listening to some of the, mostly local, politicians talking about this, it struck me how similar their reaction to this is to how politicians responded to the 'Havana syndrome': 'We demand that the FBI tell us the truth' - as if they had been lying so far.
In the past, politicians would have tried to calm people down, wouldn't they? Nowadays, instead, they are feeding the frenzy.

And also much like the 'syndrome', the FBI and other agencies seem to be unwilling to spell it out: 'This is what happens, this is what you are interpreting to be drones sent by hostile enemies.' They dismiss the nonsense, but they don't do much to make the message unambiguously clear.

However, I don't think this craze will last very long. It is no coincidence that it has begun at the time of the year when people are still up and outside after sunset and begin to see and misinterpret things that are always there but not noticed.

Surprised no one's talking about this. I wasn't aware of it until just the other day but haven't seen any.

My prediction: it's going to turn out to be an advertising project. Somebody's paying for a fancy drone event to advertise themselves, and what's being seen is attempts to practice it before the big event at a football game or something. But now that a fuss has been raised both the drone operator contractor and the advertising company are afraid to come foreward for fear they'll get into trouble. Which they probably will, I'm sure they've violated all kinds of license requirements, and caused public nuisances, and of course people will try to sue them for all sorts of alleged damages.

Drones are flipping everywhere in my mostly empty little beach town. They look small, like the personal ones, but seeing the stupid things zipping around is unnerving. Red, green and and white lights on them, and fairly high altitude, not like hovering around windows. They are out in major force when something is going on, like a fireworks display, so I guess they have cameras on them.

I'm yet to see any footage of an actual drone in the current frenzy. One thing I have noticed - this time last year I was in Kyiv during several mass Russian drone attacks. I still get a little PTSD from one thing that nobody in New Jersey is talking about.

The noise.

Nobody is talking about the noise.

These aren't drones.

A military bombing drone would be some heavy duty machinery, though? I think what people are reporting are much smaller and less powerful (carrying little payload) but much larger than a kids toy you buy on Amazon? More like a long range surveillance thing.

My local zoning board turned out to have a unique use for them. We went there to inquire about doing some alterations to a historical building, and they went on the computer and punched up views of every nook and cranny exterior view of the property in alarmingly close detail. Seems they've been literally generating a real time plotting of everything visible on the properties in the historical district.

Just waiting to hear when they inadvertently snapped a pic catching a view of a young lady getting dressed or something.

Eta: another example of drones in the news came from the NYC CEO assassination. NYPD dispatched drones to sweep Central Park when their suspect was believed to have dropped evidence there.

Drones on the frontline are small, good enough to carry a grenade. The shahed's typically aimed at Kyiv are big, yesterday. But the noise is similar (though don't know about the new jet powered ones). Slightly different pitch and of course volume.

The NJ reports have people claiming all sorts of things from mini drones to giants. It's insane.

A LOT of this drone disinformation is getting heavily pushed by this mob -

Just so no one thinks I'm losing it (which I may be), this post was moved from elsewhere...

The whole thing is just weird. I think it's clear it's our govt, because it they suspected it was someone else, they'd be taking them out. Maybe an alien escaped from Area 51? :)

It's a matter of time before people start shooting them down, or trying to.

Already, and consistent with @icerat's observations

That looks .... familiar ..... doesn't it?
They've all gone insane.
