I was following this case for awhile because it was just so strange. His body has never been found, but he has been declared dead. One theory was suicide, but when items like his burned hard drive started been found in the river, they started looking closer. He was a happily married man and successful DA. And then he was gone. Vanished.

Just recently I learned that his prosecution of Sandusky - the pervert - was brutal and, the belief that Sandusky put a hit on him is commonly spoken of.

I would be interested if anyone has thoughts on this case.

offhand thoughts

From Wikipedia: "During his tenure, in 1998, Gricar declined to press charges against longtime Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky following allegations of child sexual abuse;[6] Sandusky was charged and convicted of multiple counts of sexual abuse thirteen years later." From what I can quickly ascertain, DA Gricar was looking forward to retirement. On the other hand, his brother committed suicide. It could be that someone else put a hit out on him.

Perhaps, but Sandusky has been very vocal about his hatred of the DA.

allegations from AJ Weberman

At Academia.edu A J Weberman posted a paper called "Sandusky, Paterno, and the murder of Ray Frank Gricar." He wrote in part, "Part of Gricar’s job was to cover up for Penn State athletes’ crimes. He had refused to file charges against football players that sent two Penn State wrestlers to the hospital and only charged Nickel back Anwar Phillips with sexual assault rather than rape charges. And of course he covered up for Sandusky." I only skimmed the article.

This is from my neck of the woods and I know a great deal about the case. Two bits of misinformation I noticed in your opening post, he was not married at the time. Divorced from his first wife and was living with his girlfriend at the time of his disappearance. Also, his hard drive was not burned. It was removed from the laptop and both were then throw in different parts of the river. The Sandusky thing was barely a thing at that time, so I believe it is just a distraction for people now, knowing how it blew up later on down the road. I am still firmly of the belief that he pulled a walkaway.
