Just wanna say that disowning your own child because your bigotry is more important to you is the lowest point you can reach. If you need some adjustment time to process what might really feel like losing your son (I had the parent of a transwoman actually say that happens, even though she was fully supportive), that's one thing. Musk is famously and loudly opposed to empathy, and this is just one of the ways it shows.
One of my senior engineers had a child of high-school age come out as trans recently. I confess I did not see the signs of his own distress until it started affecting his work. Luckily we were able to facilitate contact with the local trans community, which (not surprisingly) has a wealth of resources and support available to parents who are effectively also making a transition. But it has to start with the desire to engage. What we're seeing instead is powerful people with thin skins and little empathy trying to erase people who scare them for no reason.

If you're a billionaire supervillain, you can credibly propagate the illusion that your misfortune and discomfort are entirely other people's fault and punish them for it.
