Cont: Musk buys Twitter II

I was at a party over the weekend where one of the hosts had met someone who worked at Twitter headquarters when Elon Musk took over. He said she showed him pictures of all the garbage and gunk that had piled up at the office because Musk had fired all the janitors.

That is the idiot now running our whole country.

Sounds like he should hire better employees. A true employee™ would take the time to clean up the office themselves, because they love it!

Totally thought this was going another direction:

"Oh, my goodness!" Elon says. "That's disgusting. Can't anyone rid us of this disgusting filth?"
"But sir," I say, "these are your tweets!"

it's odd how your social media platform becomes less table when you fire the people running it ...
Indeed, it's quite likely that there is little if any operational margin. Elon Musk seems to want to cut away everything until the thing breaks, then build it back up until it just barely works. He then wrongly thinks this is the minimal necessary effort, with no margin. That's passable when the thing you're breaking is a Tesla factory or a social media platform whose consequences of failure are mostly limited to you and yours. But when you start breaking things like a large country's treasury payment system or the national nuclear safeguards, you can't tolerate any failure. Musk has shown zero understanding of how to operate something that cannot be allowed to fail.

Sounds like he should hire better employees. A true employee™ would take the time to clean up the office themselves, because they love it!
That is pretty much how some of these toxic "hustle culture" places operate. They require almost fanatical devotion to the business. Look at the wording any time Elon Musk advertises for employees. He tells people up front that they'll be working long hours at high stress levels with low pay. But it's going to be so very glorious. His script kiddies have their wives and children living at work, because they aren't allowed to go home.

Elon says the cyber attack was from Ukraine
According to Newsweek the Dark Storm hacker group has claimed responsibility.
Gee, if we only knew whom to believe.

man, he'll just lie about anything, little or big, with no regard for anyone but himself.

Several groups are laughing at Musk's tweets about the attack. He's posting thing like "TRACKING!" which is like in TV Police Dramas where they look at a blurry photo and say "ENHANCE!"
Musk and Dump were meant for each other. Just as immature, whiny, and devoid of manners. Wonder if they'll have time to marry before one kills the other.

I remember reading somewhere that an actual tech company said that it appeared to be an attack. It didn't have any of the markings of a code error. I'll see if I can track it down.

For some reason I had to complete a seemingly never-ending captcha style verification when I went on to Twitter this evening and this message popped up.

Several other people I follow and talk to on Twitter got the same thing.

The only thing we have in common is laughing at the Gammons and MAGAs.

We’ve added a temporary label to your account which may impact its reach.

Why does my account have a label?
Transparency on X is very important. This is why we are letting you know that we have found your account may contain spam or be engaging in other types of inauthentic behaviors. You may not engage in behaviors that manipulate X or artificially impact how content is discovered and amplified.
What does this mean for my account?
The reach of your account may be limited and its content may also be temporarily restricted, such as being excluded from trends, replies, and recommended notifications.

Yet the Elonia cult will keep praising him for bringing FrEeDoM oF sPeEcH to Twitter.

X has suspended the Dropkick Murphys for being mean to Musk and Trump.

FREE SPEECH!
Update:

“We broke up with him first. We quit Twitter in 2022 when he was only half a Nazi,” says singer Ken Casey. “Then someone else took our handle, pretending to be our official account, so we filed a legal complaint to put a stop to that—which is why @dropkickmurphys shows as suspended. Look, we pulled our account because we didn’t want to be part of that guy’s empire. But if we were still on there, I’m sure he would have suspended us by now.”

You know, our usual megaphones parroting that line have all seem to have disappeared. There is no logical way to even pretend that Musk cares about free speech or anything even close to it. I mean sure you'll get the few stragglers that just like to argue for the sake of arguing, but anyone claiming Musk gives a ◊◊◊◊ about free speech is lying. There's no other way around it.

The one thing that truly confuses me is how Musk has the time to dabble in individual accounts while "running" multiple other businesses. I have a regular 8-5 and I don't have the time for ◊◊◊◊ like that.

speaking of musk lying, he says he runs a bunch of businesses

and in addition to the guys that have abandoned this thread instead of manning up and admitting you were wrong, there’s a lesson you need to learn here. because you probably fell for it twice already. someone being a total scumbag piece of ◊◊◊◊ but you don’t mind because they’re rich or you like their policies isn’t good enough. and if you haven’t realized that by now, just wait. it’s going to get worse. undeniably so.

A friend of mine deactivated their Twitter account a couple of months ago. It now shows as "suspended".

Muck doesn't want people to know how many people are leaving.

This.

musk’s xai buys twitter from musk for $33b in an all stock purchase that doesn’t stink of some kind of financial fraud scheme as musk’s doge starts to dismantle the sec in what is not a hilariously sad conflict of interest

think twitter is bad now wait until his lame ai is inserting itself into everything. he might end up tanking two companies both simultaneously chasing approval and satisfying his public humiliation fetish on social media

I'm reminded more and more of that episode of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia when Dennis and Mac attempt to create "a circular economy" to enrich their bar by giving out coupons for free beer.

We've seen this shell game play out before. It was called Enron last time.

I find it difficult to believe that xAI is really worth $80 billion, or rather: was worth $80 billion before it got saddled with $13 billion of debt from Twitter.

How much did he pay to buy Twitter?

He's jumped on the band wagon of the AI bubble and persuaded his investors that he alone can make it it with his AI offering. He's actually got less of a chance than the other big players who are at least trying to leverage their AI investments into something that can produce sizeable revenue. I presume he's also been saying to his investors how he will take out OpenAI from the commercial arena now he can manipulate the USA government to do his bidding.

The owners of xAI must have thought it was a good deal, otherwise it wouldn't have made any sense for them to buy X from Musk. Perhaps they'll have a more even-handed notion of free speech. Let's give them a chance.

The worrying thing is using Twitter as training data for AIs, that really is asking for Skynet, sorry Starlinknet.
