    When we moved to Xenfora some of the signature options didn't come over. Trump is holding out a bit with his MAGA voters. "He is destroying government. Cool! More!"

But there are big things moving in DC. Is there a mechanism to oust Trump within a month and sace face for the GOP? Vance can cut taxes and all they want. But Vance will get the senators all to lose their jobs in 2026 if they are up for election. Vance has no clear mission the way Trump has, he simply just dabbles in evil.

Is there another mechanism to oust Trump? Arrest him when he steps down in New York or Chicago? Governor drags him to court?

Just throwing out those so you get the idea. Interested in your take on this. Also any estimates on the timeframe. My guess is that Trump is out soon or at least in 6 months.
 
When he can't get out of the mess he's created and the country falls apart around him, Trump will attempt a military coup, and then we get to see whether American conservatives are worse than South Korean ones.

I don't think that would ever work. Military guys are not poodles; they are within their rights to refuse unlawful orders. I think any attempt at a coup would result in a factionalized military that... would be messy.
 
It is as simple as a group of billionaires sitting down with him and giving him the choice of retiring with a full pardon and the money he has grifted so far, or get destroyed in Public Opinion with constant dirty laundry aired in the biggest media outlets and endless legal suits.
 
Why would the billionaires want him out ? He's doing exactly what they want, reducing regulations so they can make more mone, reducing employee protections so they can make more money, creating chaos in government so they can make more money and in due course he will reduce taxes so they can keep more money.

IMO unless he is medically incapable of doing so Trump will serve the full four years. The people who put him in power are getting what they want and so there's no reason to change things..
 
I think the US is screwed, for the remainder of Trump's term and for decades after (if they ever try to rebuild wat Trump breaks).

But if he were to be removed, the most likely mechanism is:
- Democrats win enough seats in the 2026 midterms to win the house (as it is common for the party that holds the white house to lose house support) and maybe even the senate (there were a couple of republican senate seats that republicans won with between 50-51% that the Democrats could pick up.)
- Democrats launch an impeachment against Trump, which passes the house
- Trump has become unpopular enough by that time (and has enough scandals) that a few republican senators realize that tying the party to Trump is an albatross that is hurting the party (and their re-election chances) so decide to side with Democrats in favor of impeachment/removal

Of course the problem is that it depends on a few "good" republican senators, something that has been in short supply over the past few decades.

They may be waiting a number of megative things to happen. It was easy enough for Besos and Zuckerberg so far. When it affects their income enough. They are now collecting a lot of income from social media. But that could change. Plus there is public opinion to track. Once ten more planes crash, it may drop fast.

Public opinion is easily manipulated, especially if you own the media (both mainstream and social). Keep people content with bread and circuses and even if another 10 planes crash (which won't happen) blame Biden's DEI hiring policies

If the billionaires do suffer financially and start complaining, they may suddenly find that they have as much power and influence as the oligarchs in Russia - none at all.

That said, right now Trump is delivering to them hand over fist and I'm sure they're giddy with happiness.
 
Depends on how enlightened they are. But most Billionaires are Globalists, and if the doors the world over get shut in their face because of Trump's mercantilism, they might decide to push him out instead of losing the rest of the globe to China.

Not saying that will happen, 4 years is something one can comfortably sit out on a mountain of money - just saying what would work.

Trump is a mixed bag when it comes to businessmen.

Yeah, some of them may love the de-regulation and lower taxes. "Yay! More profit and less accountability! Sign me up!" But, remember that both Trump and Bush both left office with the economy in worse shape than when they started. Tax cuts and deregulation can temporarily boost profits, but they can leave things unstable. Perhaps by the middle of Trump's term, some of those millionaires will decide "OK, enough caos, we need stability again".

The billionaires were still considerably richer after Trump and Bush. Those with money don't mind recessions or even depressions because they can snap up assets at pennies on the dollar and come out comfortably ahead.
 
I think I can survive in my house that I own for two years. But I actually had some practical matters in mind. I may be traveling a few weeks in summer. I have a passport, but will our embassies still be working? Will there be a country when I come back after 3 weeks?

I'm not sure the globalists will mind one tiny bit. They already have corporate entities which operate in those global markets so even if the US is viewed negatively XYZ Corp (China) will still be doing nicely and if US taxes are lower the owner of XYZ Corp, headquartered in the US will keep more of the profits.

Look at the Western businesses still operating in Russia.

Even if there is public opposition in some markets due to anti-US sentiment, they'll rebrand and/or acquire a local business to address that

Yes there will be a country with embassies and everything. If Nazi Germany and Somalia can manage it, the US will be fine. There may anti-US sentiment but unless you're going to an active war zone where there are US proxies operating, it's unlikely that you'll encounter anything worse than a few sideways looks and some mumbled comments.

Even if they're anti-US in outlook, most people when they encounter an actual human American will be polite and welcoming.

The previous poster didn't say whether there would be embassies, but whether those embassies would be WORKING. Given Trump and Musk's habit of freezing funds, tossing people out of work, etc., there is no guarantee that the embassy will provide the services you need.

Imagine being on a trip to some far off place and you lose your passport. You head to the local embassy (which is still an embassy), but get told "we can't issue a replacement passport because Trump/Musk have frozen all activities involving the state department while they hunt for transgender individuals. Come back in 6 months".

Or "We could issue a new passport but the guy who ran the printer was fired by Trump and the Trump boot-licker they brought in to replace him doesn't know what he is doing".

Americans will only be upset if the oppressive government hurts them or their interests specifically. Witness the difference in treatment of white americans compared to minorities by the police over the years, and how the MAGAchud are complaining about Black Lives Matter.

The 2nd amendment types like to imagine themselves as some sort of line of defense from the government going fascist, but chances are if/when the fascists take over, they will be standing on the sidelines cheering on the government as they go after "undesirables".

ETA. Remember that the vast majority of US billionaires do not have any of their assets in the USA. Their loot is all in tax havens, untouchable. They view the USA simply as one of the best fountains feeding their Caribbean island-based Scrooge McDuck money-bins. If that dries up, there's plenty of other places they can ruthlessly exploit.

I agree. If two impeachments, including one to incite a riot to stop a duly elected presidential candidate from taking office, failed to oust him, nothing short of being dead or dribbling spittle from his gaping yap will.

Probably the best you can do is make sure that the Democrats make a case for why they should win as many seats in Congress as they can at the mid-terms.
