Merged LA Wildfires/Malibu Barbie Evacuated from Dream House

How many presidents in the past have threatened to withhold disaster relief based on the politics of a state? Do you mean just American presidents? If not, I could probably come up with a few.

Our national nightmare goes on and on and on. :boggled:

Mary Trump was very critical of her uncle donald trump's actions during the LA area wildfires.
Mary Trump accused the president-elect of being "terrible" in a crisis while pointing to the Los Angeles wildfires, which have left at least 16 people dead and destroyed thousands of properties. She said Trump is using the wildfires as an excuse to attack Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom..."Donald is no longer an unknown quantity. After four years of his first administration, we are all too familiar with the sort of chaos he brings to already fraught situations. He has, in fact, a long, sordid history of making things worse." Newsweek article link

Your mistake here is thinking of Trump as a president. There is ample evidence that he has no idea what the role of POTUS actually entails.
Why, it entails him getting to do whatever he wants. What more could there be?

Is it not, as they say, good to be the King?

Yes, continuing to ignore the effects of climate change and just moving people away from the areas that become uninhabitable as a result seems like a solid plan. No flaws detected.
"Climate Change" is manna from heaven for government and politicians; effective rhetoric to avoid criticism of their gross incompetence.

Climate Change is manna from heaven for government and politicians. There's a context to this. It's the credo of the magamutts.

Life stinks. People are rotten. Stay negative!

Perspective from John Lentini, one of the nations top fire experts:
"People keep asking me what caused it and who is to blame. The answers are "I don't know" and "the Wind."
“It’s going to go out when it runs out of fuel, or when the weather stops,” Lentini said. “They’re not going to put that thing out until it’s ready to go out.”
"John Lentini, owner of Scientific Fire Analysis in Florida, who has investigated large fires in California including the Oakland Hills Fire in 1991, said the size and scope of the blaze doesn’t change the approach to finding out what caused it. 'This was once a small fire. People will focus on where the fire started, determine the origin and look around the origin and determine the cause.'"
EDT
I should have said earlier that there have been conspiracy theories about what/who started the fire. Mr. Lentini's credentials are impeccable.

Raked the forests of course.

I don't know if you're being ironic, but being in possession of both a rake and a (tiny bit of) forest, no. You can't rake forest debris (not even leaves, let alone vines, dead stalks of annual shrubs, dead standing trees, fallen logs and branches, etc.) out of a forest. You either do it with yarders and other heavy equipment (risking ruining the forest soil and causing erosion or mudslides when rain returns) or by hand one handful at a time. Or you burn it out, hopefully in a controlled manner, which is probably illegal to even attempt on private land. You can't hire your neighbor's kid to do it for 50 bucks, and you're pretty likely to injure yourself if you do it yourself. It's not going to happen on some planned regular basis across tens of thousands of steeply sloped acres interspersed with houses.

In 2018 Trump reckoned it would help. It's what Finland does, apparently. The claim confused Finland

People who demand that we should have had something in place to completely stop this are the same people who demand to know why we don't make the whole plane a "black box".

Also from the link:
"Finns have been posting pictures of themselves online raking local forests, joking about 'raking America great again.'"

In regards to my previous post (#132), there are indeed conspiracy theories floating around. CNN reported, "Like the devastating Maui wildfires in 2023 and Hurricanes Helene and Milton in 2024, conspiracy theorists claimed the Los Angeles fires had been deliberately set by the government...Community Notes have been added to posts on X, including on a video with more than 500,000 views that falsely purported to show the fire approaching the Hollywood sign (An assessment by Lead Stories found the video was likely created using artificial intelligence)."

What specifically should government and politicians have done / not done?
State Farm told California that there were zip codes (including Pacific Palisades) where the risk of fire was so great that it would stop issuing policies there: See where State Farm won't be renewing California homeowners policies California and these localities did absolutely nothing with this information. They had no sense of urgency: State to probe why Pacific Palisades reservoir was offline, empty when firestorm exploded Don't let incompetent politicians hide behind "climate change."

This was published by the Council for Foreign Relations in August 2023.

American homeowners already coping with extreme weather now face a new risk: disappearing property insurance. Private companies have increasingly reduced coverage, concluding that the risks—and potential losses—threatened by climate change outweigh probable profits. As of now, this primarily affects a handful of coastal U.S. states, including California. In other states, insurers have substantially increased the price of property insurance. CFR article link

Reads like someone asked ChatGPT to write a random paragraph using only things that a stupid person shouted on Newsmax in the last two days.

The probe into the incomplete reservoir repair was instigated by Newsom (government at work) and I think it's a good idea to wait and see what it reveals before jumping to conclusions. But no matter what it reveals, this is so geographically specific that it's a meaningless response to the question I posed.

The Red Cap brigade sure is getting desperate trying to find ways to blame Democrats for this. Meanwhile Trump & co have yet to express one moment of sympathy for the victims in their social media posts.

Sympathy is a foreign concept to them. No financial benefit. As it is to most of their supporters. A good example of what Americans have to look forward to for the next 4 (or more ) years.

Not to mention that the same article our loyal little Trump boot licker linked to acknowledges that the reservoir is part of a municipal water system not designed for fighting fires and that access to it probably wouldn’t have made much of a difference.

But in fairness, you would only learn that by actually reading the article instead of just uncritically accepting as truth what right wing media tells you. Facts are for suckers.

I'm remembering when Hurricane Sandy hit and the GOP refused to vote aid for the victims (they claimed there was too much Pork...there wasn't).

Later when a GOP rep's own area was hit with a disaster congress universally voted for aid but noted the congressman had voted against Sandy aid. The congressman was all "Gee, I don't remember doing thaaaaaaat".

Also note how often FOX news has tried to make any disaster into "The Democrat's Katrina!!!!!"

Vague post is vague.
Just commentary on the commentary. Pretty much all the commentary I've heard has just been talking heads explaining why the fires are evidence for the commentators pre-existing belief and has largely ignored other factors.

Well, that’s slightly less vague, I guess.

As far as what commentators are saying, unless they are experts in a field relevant to the topic or referencing such experts, they’re most likely no-nothing ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ that can safely be ignored.

Wow, Trump is so stupid, he thinks water flows downhill from North to South. He thinks water from Canada should flow down to LA.

Of course Trump is stupid. He shows that every time he opens his mouth. Stupider yet are the dolts that voted for him expecting him to understand how to anything positive for his country.

Question in the comments: wow did the interview guy keep the straight face ?
My answer: he's in pain.

This would be great Onion material .. like 10 years back.
