Jussie Smollet Trial

My memory is a bit fuzzy about all this, but is there any indication as to why this hoax was created in the first place? Dude just wanted to see a bunch of people feeling sorry for him in the news?

Also, is there any evidence of what the co-conspirators were getting out of it?

Now we have a security guard claiming he saw a white man, dressed in all black and wearing a ski mask, run past him. It was not reflected in the statement he gave, apparently.

However, Moore states that when he gave a statement to Special Prosecutor Dan Webb in his office on Jan. 9, 2020, someone else wrote it out while he spoke. The statement made no mention of a White man but Moore says he made it clear that’s what he saw.

Unless Smollett admits to it and tells us his motivation(s), there's probably no way of knowing what outcome he had in mind. Some kind of attention-seeking seems like it would have been an obvious component.

I think there have been suggestions that maybe he was trying to drum up support for an anti-lynching bill that was making its way through Congress at the time.

Cynically, one might think perhaps he was trying to meet a market demand.

IIRC, there's good evidence that Smollett wrote a check to the Osundarios for several thousand dollars.

Prosecution's entire cross examination;

"Ahahahahaha, just shovel out that bull **** one more time, please! Oh god, my sides! Ahahahahaha!"

Where exactly is this testimony headed?

Jussie Smollett testifies on stand -- first night he met Bola Osundairo they did weed and cocaine together then went to a club. Then went to a bath house together.

This is a bold strategy, Cotton. Let's see how it works out for him.

"Yo yo yo, y'Honor, check it out...we all a bunch coked up Trojan warrior-dressing bathhouse freaks. Who you gonna believe, huh? Find me a credible mother ****** in this courtroom! No offense, y'Honor"

Smollett testifies he would pay Bola Osundairo for Cocaine. Around $200.

I guess the defense has decided their best bet is to try to discredit the witnesses, even at the expense of Smollet's character. I guess they figure it is **** already, why not?

As for Ola Osundairo, the other brother who alleges that Smollett paid him to stage the attack, the actor testified that they do not get along. Smollett said Ola “took the vibe out of the room” on one of the rare occasions the three of them hung out. He says that night, he and Bon went to the bath house again and did more intimate acts on each other.

Sizzlin' testimony, yo!

As far as I can tell, yes. It's a really spectacular self-destruction from someone who had a good acting job on a prestigious TV show and was probably going to have a pretty good career going forward.

Let's say he walks on these charges. I wonder where his career goes? Maybe back in business after a brief cool down period and interview tour?

It's just a hunch, but I don't believe that will ever happen. I think Smollet is done. He will be a punch line in comedy acts.

Punch line. Heh.

Nah, he'll be fine. Make some comments about getting mixed up with those crazy cokeheads, and he'll bounce back. But the Osindarios are done, career wise.

Smollett testifies his face was very important. That he looked like a ‘black Cary Grant’ Testifies computers were used to remove face scars…

Smollett testified that he did not want “Empire” security following him around because he liked to drive his own vehicle and “smoke my blunt” in his car during lunch.

Solid.

Smollett says he was driving, smoking a blunt and texting with a woman about MSNBC appearance – on the day of January 27 – when the Osundairo brothers were in his car.

Relatable.

When asked why he did not call police after after the incident, Smollett said on the stand, “I’m a black man in America and I do not trust police.”

Laying it on real thick.

On a separate occasion, Smollett told jurors he and Bola Osundairo snuck away from his brother after the three were at a female strip club together. Smollett testified they again got a private room and "made out a little bit, masturbated together."

This dude is really swinging for the fence.

Smollett claiming that the Osindarios set up the fake attack because they were trying to hustle their way into being Jussie's personal security. Creating the illusion of a need and all.

I just wish we had audio of these Nigerians shouting, "This is MAGA country!".

How does he know that? Just guessing?

In trying to prove the contrary, Webb showed and read from private Instagram messages between Bola Osundairo and Smollett in which the latter kept updating Bola on his whereabouts and flight delay information on the night of the attack, making the case that he was working with him to time out the planned attack. Some of the messages included the use of the N-word, prompting Smollett to interrupt the prosecutor to ask him to spell or abbreviate the word so as not to offend "every African American in this room."

Is this ***** for real? Those are your texts, bro.

The two bros were paid-cash & airline tickets?

Motivation was to umm, make his producer(?) feel sorry for him, (mercy ****?) ,but the producer reported teh crime. So, Jussie had to go national with it.

“I thought I’d end with a Christmas wish list,” Uche said as he showed on the screen his laundry list of questions he wished he had answered.

Do you want Mr. Smollett to be convicted of this nonsense?

Do you want to take away man’s freedom?

Who was the man in the car?

Where are the phone records from Ola’s other two phones?

Why did the brothers lie about having their phones?

Who is this third person?

Why doesn’t the report show the SD card was overwritten?

Why did they pressure and threaten Anthony Moore to change his story if the case is solid?

Why are they telling him to say he saw a black person when he said he saw the same thing Jussie saw?

According to Fox News' Matt Finn, Smollett's defense attorney pressed to the jury: "I need constitutional warriors in that jury room because I can not speak again" before conceding to prosecutorial rebuttal.

Ok, who is thinking acquittal, at this point? It's a "whodunnit" mystery!

I won't be surprised in the least, tbh.

The interesting and significant part of this whole affair was never that he lied and got caught. From the start, the interesting and significant part was how people responded to it. In particular, the credulity of people who thought he was telling the truth, and were so certain that the people who doubted him did so out of some form of malice. This thread offers numerous examples.

In our commitment to abolition, we can never believe police, especially the Chicago Police Department (CPD) over Jussie Smollett, a Black man who has been courageously present, visible, and vocal in the struggle for Black freedom.

Not guilty would be the funniest outcome.

It would be pretty tragic, actually.

Funny was him thinking this was a good idea. Funny was the clownshow execution of a clownshow plan.

Tragic was all the progressives lapping it up.

Tragic was all the politicians pretending it was real.

Tragic was the DA trying to sweep it all under the rug.

Tragic was him doubling down on it.

Tragic was him throwing his associates under the bus for no other crime than somehow being stupider than he was.

Tragic is you saying it will be funny if he's acquitted.

Progressives everywhere have a vested interest in seeing him convicted. Tragic is so many progressives don't see it that way.

What more do you want? He went from sympathetic figure to laughing stock. Even if he beat the charges somehow, it's hard to imagine how'd he would ever recover his reputation.

I don't think the initial instinct to believe people when they claim to be victims of crimes is an incorrect one.

The local politics and coverup is definitely something that stinks bad.

I hope this fool gets some jail time now, for perjury. I mean, it was fairly egregious.

And erotic.
