House passes HR-1.

If you agreed with me, you'd recognize the silver lining in a bull smashing up swaths of the federal china shop.
What a dumb idea of a 'silver lining'.

The federal government does a lot of things. Many of those things make people's lives better. Some even save lives. When you 'smash things up', you can cause damage that cannot be undone, even if at some point you decide "maybe we went too far with the cuts". If you fire people, you may lose the knowledge and experience they had. If you dismantle infrastructure, it will be costly to rebuild.

The cancer research that is having its funding cut will break studies that might have otherwise have saved lives. Even if the government decides "maybe we should resume funding", those initial studies are corrupted.
But no. You voted for Biden. You voted for the big government status quo. Because you like big government. Because you like the idea of the state wielding vast power over others, as long as it's your agenda on the trigger side of the firing line.
Yes, democrats want the government to have certain powers over people. But the republicans similarly want to "control" people, just in different ways.

So lets take a look at the types of things both groups want to control, and why.

Democrats want financial and environmental regulations. There are reasons behind it... we know (from various scientific studies) that certain pollutants can cause health concerns (not just in those who do the polluting, but other people too). They want more gun control... because, you know, mass shootings happen. They wanted mask mandates and similar measures during Covid (because there were scientific studies that showed masks could limit the spread of diseases.)

Now lets take a look at the type of things republicans want to do to control people.

They want to be able to force 10 year old sexual assault victims to give birth to the babies of their attackers. Is there any scientific rational behind that? Nah, its because they think their invisible sky daddy told them to do so. They want more censorship, probably because they think baby jesus would cry if he sees a picture of a naked woman on the internet. They want to end gay marriage, because they think every time 2 homosexuals kiss, an demon gets their wings. Republicans are also more likely to want restrictive marijuana laws, and for that they have things like Refer Madness for support. Notice a pattern? Many of these things republicans want to control either 1) have no science supporting it, and/or 2) they are restricting things that don't necessarily harm others.

Not sure about you, but if I am going to have a government interfering in my life, I would want them to at least have some sort of factual/scientific/rational reason for doing so (such as "you know, these scientific studies show that masks can prevent the transmission of diseases to other people") rather than "We want to force these other people to conform to our way of thinking because our invisible sky daddy said so".

It's amazing how the reich wing posters on here can never learn how much the government does for them, and how much of that TACO is destroying.

Yes, but you see, the Democrats wanted to give rights to people that makes the MAGA have icky feelings.

So best to vote for the party that promises to destroy liberties, rights and free speech, in the hope YOU won't be in the group they hit.

A nice example is the bit I've seen on the internet repeatedly about the part that prevents voter registration if you alter your name from your birth certificate. To stop the evil Trans!
It never explains WHY trans people should not be allowed to vote, and ignores the fact that it also applies to any woman who marries and takes the last name of her husband.

Or anyone who changes their name to get away from an abusive family, as someone I know personally has done.

Or just changes it because they don't want to be called something stupid like Imuniqu'e.

Six of one, half a dozen of the haters.

If you agreed with me, you'd recognize the silver lining in a bull smashing up swaths of the federal china shop....
There is no silver lining in the chaos and madness being committed by Trump.

MAGA is clearly suffering from Stockholm Syndrome.

always a good start to any statement

Sure, we allowed a lot of preventable deaths, set back scientific progress decades, and helped usher in a new age of feudalism, but Elon Musk pays fewer taxes, so its a positive in the long run.
But no. You voted for Biden. You voted for the big government status quo.
So did everyone who voted for either major candidate
Because you like big government.
Everyone does. Some of us are just willing to admit that even the things we like count as "big government".
Because you like the idea of the state wielding vast power over others,
As do you.
as long as it's your agenda on the trigger side of the firing line.
See above.

If the intent was to cut down on unecessary government spending, why were the inspectors generals fired?
Because a few of them were pretty close to figuring the true nature of the Galaxy Nazi's scams and frauds.

PS with respect to the highlighted, no need to pluralise both words. Inspectors general is the strictly grammatical formulation but the other way around ismore common.

My fingers are so much faster than my brain that it has no chance of keeping up; that "s" is not there willingly. This is a problem, since I have spent much of my professional as well as my private life reading and writing, and not only are my fingers much faster than my brain, so are my eyes; I see a few letters, and think I know what they spell (two examples this forum today; tradeswomen are not real women, and the department of homeland stupidity. That last one still seems about right), while my poor brain comes lumbering behind, trying to clear up the mess the rest of me has made, So I am basically illiterate, but at least I feel quite sure that I will survive the zombie apocalypse. Swings and roundabouts!

Maybe it's a Musk thing because he doesn't want his son to change to an actual human name.

ETA: Sorry, I may just be repeating what you said.
