What a dumb idea of a 'silver lining'.If you agreed with me, you'd recognize the silver lining in a bull smashing up swaths of the federal china shop.
The federal government does a lot of things. Many of those things make people's lives better. Some even save lives. When you 'smash things up', you can cause damage that cannot be undone, even if at some point you decide "maybe we went too far with the cuts". If you fire people, you may lose the knowledge and experience they had. If you dismantle infrastructure, it will be costly to rebuild.
The cancer research that is having its funding cut will break studies that might have otherwise have saved lives. Even if the government decides "maybe we should resume funding", those initial studies are corrupted.
Yes, democrats want the government to have certain powers over people. But the republicans similarly want to "control" people, just in different ways. But no. You voted for Biden. You voted for the big government status quo. Because you like big government. Because you like the idea of the state wielding vast power over others, as long as it's your agenda on the trigger side of the firing line.
So lets take a look at the types of things both groups want to control, and why.
Democrats want financial and environmental regulations. There are reasons behind it... we know (from various scientific studies) that certain pollutants can cause health concerns (not just in those who do the polluting, but other people too). They want more gun control... because, you know, mass shootings happen. They wanted mask mandates and similar measures during Covid (because there were scientific studies that showed masks could limit the spread of diseases.)
Now lets take a look at the type of things republicans want to do to control people.
They want to be able to force 10 year old sexual assault victims to give birth to the babies of their attackers. Is there any scientific rational behind that? Nah, its because they think their invisible sky daddy told them to do so. They want more censorship, probably because they think baby jesus would cry if he sees a picture of a naked woman on the internet. They want to end gay marriage, because they think every time 2 homosexuals kiss, an demon gets their wings. Republicans are also more likely to want restrictive marijuana laws, and for that they have things like Refer Madness for support. Notice a pattern? Many of these things republicans want to control either 1) have no science supporting it, and/or 2) they are restricting things that don't necessarily harm others.
Not sure about you, but if I am going to have a government interfering in my life, I would want them to at least have some sort of factual/scientific/rational reason for doing so (such as "you know, these scientific studies show that masks can prevent the transmission of diseases to other people") rather than "We want to force these other people to conform to our way of thinking because our invisible sky daddy said so".
