GBeebies has lost its third presenter in as many days. I wonder is the whole misogyny problem it has is causing a death spiral?

Last night at the Conservative Democratic Organisation gala dinner, Priti Patel got huge applause when she said that GBNews are
"The most successful, most dynamic, no nonsense news station, and the defenders of free speech"

And also referred to “the Tory-hating, Brexit-bashing, free speech deniers at the BBC”

I get a lot of GBNews content on my Facebook feed. It causes my head to spin how at odds with my perception of reality it is. :(

Mark Harper transport secretary has just said Tories will stop the “"misuse of 15 minute cities"
“what is sinister is the idea of local councils deciding how often you can go to the shops“

Have I missed something? Where are they getting idea that making things available in a 15 minute radius precludes leaving the area?

Bloody hell. I suppose it's what he thinks his audience wants to hear.

He is using the Sunak play book of making up policies no one has, and then claiming to be fighting them.

This is the news organisation which, according to ratings figures published in the latest Private Eye, reaches 0.17% of the UK population and for which viewer engagement is rated in seconds per day. A news station (to use the name lightly) which regularly has broadcasts watched by nobody.

Far right anti-semitic conspiracy theories originating in the US, which are saying it's all a UN/George Soros plot to enslave white christians.

Let them eat beef

Even in The Thick of It, they didn't host a party conference in a disused railway station in Manchester while contemplating scrapping a major public transport connection to Manchester.

Jeremy Hunt says he wants those who feel unable to work because of physical or mental health conditions to receive medical and therapeutic help as a condition of receiving their out-of-work benefits uplift.

So under the Tories the best way to be able to a doctor is to resign from work and claim job seekers allowance

It wouldn't shock me to find out that benefits would be removed pending receipt of physical and/or mental help from doctors - but that therapy would never come.

I want to see the play "I Daniel Blake" on Saturday. Not sure how accurately it reflects the film but he was denied payments because the DWP assessment on his capacity to work differed from his doctor's.

You couldn't make it up:

"Rishi Sunak’s Commons majority in peril as 60 Tories join Liz Truss group

Growth Group now same size as government’s majority, as it urges PM to cut taxes and resume fracking"

Guardian

Liz Truss has formed a splinter group? Liz Truss ???????

There was one of Harper's understrappers on PM being "interviewed" by Evan Davies (the quotation marks refer to the robotic responses of the understrapper), who just kept repeating that sodding nonsense, despite repeated attempts by Davies to seek clarification of these claims.

Carrot Flower Queen likened the understrapper to one of those old talking Action Man toys, which only had a couple of stock phrases...

She's coming back to finish the job she started! Be afraid UK, be very afraid.

Never forget that she was the choice of the Conservative party.

Yes, I heard that in the car; the cause of much swearing at the radio.

Rishi says that apparently, one of the biggest issues children and teachers grapple every day with is the impact of smartphones in schools.

He's changing the guidance to schools to ban all use of mobile phones in schools even at breaks and lunchtimes.

Here's me thinking that collapsing buildings, staffing and funding cuts were the big issues.

It seems to be part of the pattern of announcing initiatives to deal with non-existent issues.

Yes it was also a main topic of conversation on the Jeremy "Whine" show on BBC2.

All of the problems of modern Britain are down to children having too much access to smartphones.

This "policy" appeals directly to old gammons who don't deal with children on a daily basis, just the caricature of children created by the Mail and Express - IOW the Tory core demographic.

And that Sunak is so politically inept that she outmanoeuvred him

To echo what the others have said, it's also impractical for many families.

My kids are not that far from school age and they sometimes needed to contact us if the bus was failing, or an after school activity.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sunak is playing silly buggers with the HS2 announcement and that he will confirm it is going beyond Manchester, somehow thinking that would be positive news instead of clearly stating it when the question is raised. My reasoning? Because it is far too inept to actually let it dominate the conference otherwise... even for Sunak.

I think mobiles are one of the pet peeves of Katharine Birbalsingh, the traditional education zealot who seems to be the tories' go to person for education policy.

Rishi says the government takes no responsibility for the problems in the NHS, he says strikes are 'the number one reason' to blame for long waiting lists.

Going to Manchester, telling telling themthey can't have a modern railway connection, then flying back home to London.

Standing in a former railway station that ran some of the fastest scheduled express services from Manchester to London over 140 years ago and saying, with a straight face, We can't do that.

Levelling up didn't really exist did it?

There were never any plans to actually level up - merely to generate headlines.

I don't know how anyone could take seriously initiatives called "levelling up" and "Northern powerhouse", especially from the Tories.
