Gaza residents surviving off animal feed and rice as food dwindles

The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.
That's not what Judaism teaches us.

"saving one life is the same as saving the entire world" -- Talmud (Sanhedrin 37a)
TheWorld™ woke up this morning to a different reality. All bets are off.

That is a lie. Sanhedrin 37a does NOT say that.

What it does say is:

" Therefore, Adam the first man created alone, to teach you that with regard to anyone who destroys one soul from the Jewish people, i.e., kills one Jew, the verse ascribes him blame as if he destroyed an entire world, as Adam was one person, from whom the population of an entire world came forth. And conversely, anyone who sustains one soul from the Jewish people, the verse ascribes him credit as if he sustained an entire world."

This very bigoted phrase is motivation for the fascists in the West Bank and Gaza. The fascists who believe is okay to starve people in order to accomplish a political agenda and force them out of their land and it's okay to commit acts of terrorism against people who are not Jews.

And by the way I chose to call your comment a lie because you very obviously understand that you we're not honest about the true translation of the language from the talmud.

The underlying concept of the Talmudic passage was properly presented, Herc.
So, What are you really upset about? You think Jews living in the Land of Israel is an evil thing, and it bothers you? Jews living in Hebron are fascists?
Jews in Alfe Menashe are fascists? Jews in Ariel are fascists?
How about the Jews in Ramat Gan? Fascists. also?

Israel is at war. Gaza is being turned around; Iran is getting a few more 'messages'; Lebanon is keeping quiet; Syria standing down; Egypt, not a peep; Jordan, watching with trepidation.

FreeGaza From HAMAS.

Get on board, Hercules56, the train is leaving the station without you, methinks.

New record in Gazans desperate for the little food Israel is willing to let them have getting gunned down by IDF soldiers:

current reports put the number at 70 killed this morning.

The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) – the global standard for measuring food insecurity – indicates that 470,000 people are facing catastrophic hunger. The entire population is experiencing acute food insecurity.

An alarming 71,000 children and more than 17,000 mothers will need urgent treatment for acute malnutrition.

The World Food Programme (WFP) has depleted its food stocks in Gaza. More than 116,000 metric tons of food assistance – enough to feed 1 million people for up to 4 months - is ready to be brought into Gaza if the blockade is lifted.
but Israel only lets its own aid in, which is inadequate and cannot be delivered without mass killings.

Genocide. No doubt.

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by racism, poor training, fear, exhaustion, poor leadership, total lack of discipline, hate and self-loathing.
I guess malice covers most of it.

The US-backed initiative for feeding gazans (millions of meals) was not involved in the above-metioned attacks.

It's actually the poorly-run and inefficient and unsecured UN-backed aid mechanisms which are under attack, as they were traditionally the means for HAMAS to gain food and materials, and now it's being curtailed drastically, to their great chagrin.

The false equivalence of judaism as both a religion and a distinct ethnic group (judaism is a meld of many distinct ethnic groups, just like any proselytising religion* spread wide is) is a way to unperson the Palestinian people, because there is one constant rule in the jewish scriptures, non-jews are, at best, untermenschen and most aren't even that. It's a way to get themselves off the hook for the holocaust they are committing, in the exact same way that nazi anti-semitic propaganda in the 1930s was.

And the leadership knows what they are doing, and furthermore they know that the Palestinians are mostly descended from the native inhabitants of Iudaea who stayed after the temple revolts (the expulsion was very localised around the then town of Jerusalem qnd left most inhabitants in situ). Israel is killing its own people's kith and kin^.

*Up until the 10th century CE jewish preachers were actively converting nations as far away as the Volga.
^Well, some anyway. By far the vast majority of jews in the 1st century CE were still living in Mesopotamia, with Babylon still being the main cultural and religious powerhouse in judaism.

To be clear the murder of Palestinians seeking aid from the UN was by the IDF.

Witnesses say that Israeli forces opened fire and shelled an area near a junction to the east of Khan Younis, where thousands of Palestinians had been gathering in the hope of getting flour from a World Food Programme (WFP) site, which also includes a community kitchen nearby.

In the three weeks since it began operating, more than 420 Palestinians have been killed and more than 3,000 others injured by Israeli fire near the three aid distribution points in the central and southern areas of the blockaded enclave.

At this point I am worried for Israeli civil society for the number of complete psychopaths with weapons training they are producing, soldiers who are capable of gunning down starving people with tank rounds. At best, this will result in a spree of suicides - more likely mass shootings.

You are worried about Israeli society? How touching.

To be fair it's more than the einsatzgruppen who are producing psychopaths with weapons. Look at the nazi groups running the West Bank settlements.

Somewhere back along the way of these discussions, there was an example of an Arab village being hit by Iranian missiles and Jews were cheering. That is not the essence of the story, however. The truth is somewhat different.

To be fair, Israelis are being given increased opportunities to live where they wish to.

Including Homesh and Sa-Nur, two villages that Israel abandoned in an effort to reach a peaceful accommodation with the Palestinians (to no avail, I might add).
You mean two villages that Israel genocided the Palestinians out of in 1948 and had to pull back from.

Let's not cloud this topic with far right zionist lies.

Sometimes I can be quite dense, probably. Homesh was established by Jewish families in 1980.
How does that translate to a "genocide of Palestinians" in 1948? I'm not seeing the connection.

There is a quiet and respectful house of Torah study at the site currently. Yeah, far-right Zionists learning Torah in the exact place Judaism's core faithful lived and breathed.

FreeGaza From HAMAS.
Bombing campaigns and starvation are sure to make a lot of recruits to the Centrist WotMeWorry Party. How many converts did the US make with napalm in 'Nam? Bombs in Iraq? In Afghanistan?

Farcical, outrageously contrary to normal human behavior, which is to deeply resent those who've done you great harm, such as burying your family alive and letting you hear a helpless infant cry itself to death as you tear at the rubble until your hands are raw. This, thousands of times over, for months on end.

Unless, of course, what is meant is to eliminate all Palestinians from Gaza. That does seem to be the plan.

Ameraelis have taken all leave of their senses.

Planigsale, that first link is a .pdf document descibing Iran's nuclear program and references UN Res. 2231.
Has nothing to do with Gaza. Nor HAMAS.

Second linky contains this gem:
"After inputting missing values, we fitted alternative generalised linear models to the three lists' overlap structure, with each model representing different possible dependencies among lists and including covariates predictive of the probability of being listed..."

Sheesh.
They managed to present graphs, charts, extrapolations, page after page ---- and never once mentioned HAMAS casualty figures.

New study suggests that Hamas Health department mortality figures are inaccurate.
The estimate in this new study closely match the estimates from a separate study using different methodology.

Two separate studies using different methodology coming to similar conclusions about inaccuracies in Hamas figures is strong evidence these are inaccurate.

The first link seems to be related to Iran and their nuclear program so maybe you posted the wrong link?

The second link is a different methodology to estimate the Palestinian deaths. Based on the repeated complaints from some in this thread regarding the accuracy of the Gaza health ministry numbers and the way you worded your post I initially assumed the new study would say the Gaza health ministry inflated or overestimated the numbers but it says the death toll is actually higher. Which I now suspect was the whole point. If so, kudos!

Apologies think I have link correct this time

High-quality war mortality estimates, such as those that were produced for Kosovo, Iraq, and Darfur play a critical role in illuminating the human cost of war. During the tumult of war they are, however, challenging to obtain due to the conflicts themselves. The Gaza Ministry of Health (GMoH) has provided regular updates to their post-October-7 violent death tally for the Gaza Strip. However, GMoH reports have attracted both criticism and support. Here, we present results from a large- scale household survey, the Gaza Mortality Survey (GMS), which provides independent estimates of war-related deaths between October 7, 2023 and January 5, 2025. Our findings suggest that violent mortality has significantly exceeded official figures. Our central estimate for the extent of GMoH undercount closely matches a separate estimate made using capture-recapture methods.
We also find that nonviolent excess deaths, often overlooked in conflict assessments, also represent a substantial burden. These results underscore the feasibility of mortality surveillance methodologies in some highly challenging war-affected settings and provide a crucial empirical foundation for assessing the true human cost of the war.

The range of our violent death estimate, 63,600–86,800, is between 3.0-4.1% of the population of the Gaza Strip. The GMoH figure of 45,650 is 53% of the top of our 95% confidence interval for violent deaths and 72% of the bottom of this interval....
We estimate a further 16,300 (95% CI 12,300-20,200) nonviolent deaths, the first such estimate for the Gaza Strip during the war. To estimate excess nonviolent deaths, we subtract 7,716 deaths predicted (19) to occur without war

and (highlighted reference above)

A recent study triangulating 2 sources of GMoH data with social media obituaries (7) yielded a violent death toll estimate of 64,260 deaths (95% CI 55,298–78,525) from the beginning of the war through June 15, 2024.

Those violent death figures exceed the battle deaths for all US wars except the Civil War and WWII. More than Vietnam, which warranted a dedicated memorial on the Mall.

But hey, they're only froggy brown folk! What's the fuss? Not good Christian folk, either, nor Jews, holiest of holy, bless their very coattails. Who cares if Palestinians croak, am I right? 'Snot like we care. Not even a nation or a people, so no rights.

Just like Auschwitz. In occupied dead nation Poland, no man's land! No law, no rights. Just ask the prisoners in Gitmo how that "no law, because in Limbo" bit works.

A description of what the US / Israeli 'humanitarian' aid system is like for Palestinians; The Hunger Games.

The aid distribution takes place in a fenced area near Salah al-Din Street, close to the eastern edge of Gaza – in a zone so dangerous, locals call it the death corridor. It is surrounded by sand and guarded by foreign military contractors. There are Israeli tanks and soldiers stationed nearby.

There is no clear schedule for the aid deliveries. Sometimes, the GHF opens the gates at 4am and sometimes later. Palestinians wait starting at sunset the night before.

When the gates finally open, the crowd floods in. There are no queues, no staff, no signs. Just noise, dust and fear.

Overhead, drones circle like vultures. Then, a voice from a loudspeaker shouts: “Four minutes! Take what you can!”

Food boxes are left in the middle of the sand, but there is not enough of them. They are never enough. People rush towards the pile, shoving and climbing over each other. They push each other. Knives come out. Fistfights erupt. Children scream. Men fall. Women crawl through the sand. Few people are the lucky ones who are able to grab a box and hold onto it. Then gunfire starts. The sandy square becomes a killing field.

For a month, Israel and the GHF denied that there were any mass killings happening at the aid hubs – another Israeli lie that was widely believed. Now, the Israeli media themselves have reported that Israeli soldiers were ordered to shoot at the crowds of Palestinians trying to get aid at the GHF hubs.
Here are some of the most important findings from the report:
➛ IDF officers say the killings aren’t isolated mistakes but part of a pattern dubbed “Operation Salted Fish” — the Israeli version of Red Light, Green Light. “We shoot, they run, we shoot again,” one soldier said. “This is our communication.”
➛ At least 549 Palestinians have been killed and over 4,000 wounded near these aid centers since May 27, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. Many were waiting for UN food trucks.
➛ Testimonies reveal Israeli commanders instructed troops to open fire on civilians approaching aid sites before they opened or after they closed — using machine guns, mortars, and grenades. Soldiers described systematic live fire, including from tanks.
➛ One officer said they fire “to signal to the population that this is a combat zone.” Soldiers reported casualties every day. Another soldier recalled being told to fire a shell at a crowd “to send a message.”
➛ Israeli soldiers said demolition crews are often present at aid sites — and that private contractors are being paid to level homes nearby. One fighter said, “People are being killed so someone can knock down a house and get paid.”
➛ IDF officers told Haaretz the army suppresses footage from these sites, believing the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) helps preserve “international legitimacy” for the war.
➛ Israel’s military prosecution has ordered the General Staff’s Fact-Finding Assessment Mechanism to investigate the shootings for possible war crimes.

Considering the lack of veracity of the backers of this operation, the Israeli and U.S. governments, I don't see good reason to believe this report. Israel commonly lies about the situation in Gaza, and if Herr Schitler is also behind it, then it's almost certainly nothing but a front for corruption.

Your refusal to respond to the report in Haaretz that IDF officers openly admit that this operation is a lure for bloodthirsty IDF soldiers to kill innocent people, including women and children, says something about you. Are you going to tell us next that Haaretz is nothing but a Hamas propaganda tool?

The U.S. State Department announced Thursday that the Trump administration had approved $30 million in funding for the controversial, opaquely run private food distribution organization known as the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, which has been criticized by a United Nations agency as "a death trap" for hungry Palestinians in the war-torn enclave. It is the first U.S. government funding for the GHF confirmed by the Trump administration.

Since it began operating in May, the GHF says it has distributed more than 46 million meals to Gazans, but its record has been marred by almost daily reports of civilians being killed trying to access its four "distribution hubs."

The Hamas-run Gaza Ministry of Health said that as of Wednesday, 549 people had been killed near GHF hubs trying to access aid, and more than 4,066 others wounded. The United Nations has reported a lower death toll, saying that 410 people have been killed near the aid hubs.

The GHF dismisses the Ministry of Health's figures as disinformation, and it says daily that nobody has been killed inside any of its hubs, while acknowledging incidents of violence outside the sites and referring to Israel's military for further information.

I have little doubt that their claim of 46 million meals is a sick joke. Everything that Schitler touches turns to ◊◊◊◊.

Acceptance/rejection of any narrative requires validation/refutation of the facts it is based on; fact-checking.

The Haaretz report is not alone in making the same observations. Too bad most of the journalists and bloggers active in Gaza have been killed by the IDF, some hastily buried in a frank admission of guilt, or we'd have ample independent, freely operating sources of trustworthy reporting. The fact that we must rely on furtive recordings and eyewitness accounts filtered through the fog of war and misinformation campaigns is an indictment of the IDF and the Israeli government.

Gee, wasn't long ago that the idea of Jordan being part of the area of conflict comprising Greater Israel was madly disputed in this or a related thread. Thanks for the open admission. Why else should Jordan watch with trepidation?

Jordanian Hashemite monarchy's position is tenuous, with a Palestinian-majority population and plenty of Islamic Jihadists waiting for their chance to depose the King. That is the meaning behind my comment, nothing else.

"Since the beginning of the Gaza war in October 2023, Jordanians have been closely watching the enclave, and the other rising tensions in the region, with deep concern and increasing anxiety." (i.e. -- trepidation, by definition).

Just in case anyone is still following this thread, I wanted to make note of the GHF efforts constituting the first really successful efforts to alleviate HAMAS-related distribution control over food.

Gazans are astounded to find out the variety and quality of food they're being provided. For Free.
(Their first reaction was -- We don't have to pay bribes to HAMAS to get this?!!)

“It’s incredibly telling that the first thing HAMAS wanted to negotiate was preserving the UN’s monopoly on Gaza aid,” GHF head Johnnie Moore said.
“We have a growing list of whistleblowers from the international aid community,” Moore added. “They believe the entire sector is corrupt from the top down.”
