problem is that requires both trump and elon bash each other publicly without it actually getting to them and set their egos aside and share power.

Musk just wants to be universally beloved and colonize Mars. Thiel wants to deconstruct society and turn civilization into a dystopia from the game EVE. With himself on top of the heap, of course. It is utterly mad that so much of the course of our civilization's history has been, is being, and will be determined by such absolutely ridiculous things as Ensign Kim on Star Trek Voyager being declared one of the sexiest men alive and Hulk Hogan having a sex tape. MAGA voters in a tornado-ravaged pocket of Mississippi have turned on Donald Trump after he failed to help them for months after deadly twisters tore up their town.

Locals in rural Tylertown have said they have felt let down and abandoned by the current administration since the natural disaster caused carnage in March 2025.

A violent EF4 tornado - with a wind speed of 166 to 200mph - hit close to the community on March 15, killing five people.

Another tornado of EF3 intensity - with wind speeds between 136 and 165 mph - pummeled the area just 30 minutes later, killing another person.

The wider southern Mississippi area was ravaged by almost 20 tornadoes in total over a one-week period, damaging thousands of homes and businesses.

Several of the red-state residents said they haven't seen a single federal agent in the two months since, despite the widespread carnage.

'I know President Trump said that "America First, we're gonna help our American folks first," but we haven't seen the federal folks down here,' Tylertown resident Bobby McGinnis told PBS.

It sounds like a joke, but this kind of thing - white people well integrated with brown neighbors who help keep their farms afloat in their bit of America - is really important these days to counter the knee-jerk xenophobia and relentless negative propaganda about undocumented people.

I'm earnest, maybe too hopeful but if U.S. conservatives at large are not as hateful as the folks r/conservative, it's a win against the narrative Mexicans are all violent child-trafficking fentanyl dealers killing pretty white women in DUI crashes.

There are divisions in the conservatives who post there but the visceral hatred of foreigners seems pretty universal. I thought maybe we were over that in 2008 when Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo dropped his bid to become the GOP nominee for president. But he had the dark underbelly of the party with him while the nominee, John McCain, didn't not, because he didn't hate Mexicans and was realistic about what it would take to solve immigration,

The same thing happened in nazi Germany where rural people often bemoaned and complained about "their" jew being sent to a KZ (often because he was the only cattle/grain dealer willing to not gouge them. They still supported the party in droves and agreed with the holocaust.

These people have a great ability for doublethink.
