That series of tweets (I think) reminds me of the Your Brain on Dugs ad where the eggs end up being smashed.

Maybe we could bring it back, your head on MAGA.
I haven't researched, but I don't think they ever smashed the eggs in those ads, just super-fried them. It may have been done in a parody, or just be a Mandela Effect. Or I could be completely wrong.

I made some of those brown eggs today. No taste difference. But they were harder to open. I tried my usual one-hand technique but it didn't work. The shell separated easily from the inner very strong membrane, which I had to poke and open. And the shell cracked into much smaller shards causing several small chips to get into the bowl. (I haven't ever had to crack into a separate bowl before, but I might do it for the rest of these.)

You made eggs? Self sufficient now! Good way to bypass the stores, chickens, etc.

I wonder how expensive it is to raise a few chickens to lay eggs? I'm thinking it is not the "solution" that The Regime says it is.

Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins on the "silver lining" of egg shortages: "People are kinda looking around thinking, 'Wow, maybe I could get a chicken in my backyard!' And it's awesome."

Everyone wants to raise chickens until it's time to do chicken-raising things. No, I am not knocking the idea. My grandfather was born in 1891, and raised chickens wherever he lived up until the late 1940s when US food industrialization made it impractical, and at the time, more expensive than dropping by the grocery store butcher shop. As long as people are willing to do ALL the work required with chicken husbandry I see no problem...unless the neighbor gets a rooster...

We had chickens when I was a kid, well my grandad did. He had a few pifs as well but my dads side of the family were part time farmers and ironstone miners.

My two great uncles and great grandad worked a few days a week as a "2+1" team at Morrisons Mine and the rest of the time they farmed. When it was busy on the farm they worked less shifts in the mine.

My Grandad was a blacksmith. The farm was sold when Great Aunt Mary died, it wasn't huge, just an overgrown 'smallholding'.
My grandad kept his hand in with pigs and chickens.

Friends of mine tried to raise chickens in their NJ backyard. It went well, but it would not have worked if the wife was doing only part-time working from home to give her the time to raise them. She also had two kids in their tweens who could help out.

A fox ate all their chickens.

Definitely the best solution for an epidemic that strikes birds and crosses to humans is to increase the population of birds, spread them widely throughout the country, and put humans in close contact with them. What could possibly go wrong?

Plenty of space on Trump's golf courses. Just sayin'...

The courses respond by spraying methyl anthranilate bird repellent, which also happens to be the artificial grape flavor used in candy and soft drinks. Trump smells it, thinks there's junk food on the course, waddles out there, and gets run over by a groundskeeping vehicle.

Generally going to be significantly more expensive then buying them at the grocery store. The profit margin for large scale producers is something like half a cent per egg, and a hobby farmer isn't going to benefit from economies of scale.

If this were easy to do economically, the bulk of poultry farmers wouldn't be living below the poverty line.

A video with the version of the ad I was thinking with a parody skit appended.

My neighbour up home tried starting a business breeding chickens and other birds for sale. Trouble was he didn't know what he was doing and was uninteresting in finding out.

Just did a little Googling. The BBC has this:

Chicken rentals. Yeah.
Their service provides hens, feed, and support for six months, allowing customers to collect fresh eggs at home. For about $600 (£476.88), two hens can produce a dozen eggs per week.
So going by their numbers, that's $600 for six months, which is about 26 weeks. If they produce a dozen eggs per week, that comes out to $23 per dozen. That's not saving you any money. The actual idea seems to be that it's more of a hobby, but tying the trend to "rising egg prices" fails the arithmetic check, even at current egg prices.

LOL! I meant Ivana.

Seriously? That's insane.

I knew he buried her there, but didn't realize it was for tax purposes. What a ◊◊◊◊!
Like everything, it's actually more complicated than that. The section dedicated as a private cemetery is actually pretty small. It might reflect a couple hundred in taxes per year at the utmost, and in order to do it, you have to set up a maintenance company with assets bonding the maintenance for generations, even in the event of a change of ownership. So Trump spent many tens of thousands to do this, against a couple hundred per year in taxes? Taxes weren't the reason; it was incidental.

And true to form:
The thing that gets me about this is Ivana's children allowing the grave to be abandoned. I mean, I'm pretty sure they have the financial wherewithal to kick in $100/mo for a guy to cut the grass. It's like they are deliberately and publicly spitting on their mother's grave. Maybe that's to show allegiance to Agent Orange? I dunno.

I think it's just self-centeredness. She's dead. There is no benefit to Trump or their children in spending money (or time) on her grave.

If they are counting on Evangelical support (not an inconsequential demographic), you'd think they would at least put on a show? There's not many demographics in the conservative repubs that approve of dumping your mom's corpse on the side of a golf course like a beer can tossed out the car window.

Evangelicals supporting the multiple-married, multiple-affaired, non-church-going, sometimes-abortion-supporting Trump are already cognitively-dissonanced to a degree that nothing will change their minds. Trump could trample the cross while demanding everyone accept the Mark of the Beast and it wouldn't change their minds.

Hm. Fair. I mean, fairly observed. You know.

Amusingly, in some perverse way, a number of evangelicals did manage to find something they would criticise him for: A gold statue of himself in that ◊◊◊◊◊◊ up "Trump Gaza" AI video released last week. Because false idols, golden calves and all.

It's not the blasphemy or the grandiosity I mind so much as the tackiness. Trump's sense of....I don't want to call it "style"....revolves around gold and gold-colored things. He's a rich guy with a poor guy's idea of what a rich guy's stuff is like. There is no subtlety, no grace, no taste. Trump would choose gold-flecked faux-marble linoleum over genuine hardwood floors.

◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ THIS. It's what really gets under my skin, the trailer trash gaudiness.

I've never kept poultry but plenty of my neighbours have over the years. IMO it makes sense if you have a large household and a traditional Northwestern European/US/Canadian diet. That way you can have enough chickens to average their output effectively, say 10-20 chickens. Any short-term shortages or gluts can be taken care of by a change to the menu.

If there are just a couple you then it's far too easy to end up without eggs or awash with them depending on how many birds you've chosen to keep. Back when we ate eggs we were the grateful recipient of our friends' surfeit when their chickens and/or ducks were overproducing. We probably got around a third of our eggs that way.

In the common parlance he was found guilty of rape, he's assaulted many other women, he's an adulterer, he's a fraudster, he's a liar, I doubt how an ex-wife is buried will be the tipping point for the evangelicals.

For evangelicals, cognitive dissonance is baked in IMO.

They see him as a tool of god and as such anything he does is absolutely fine.

I was talking about the kids, not the Russian asset. I don't get how the kids can stomach their mother being tossed ignonomously aside like trash. Trump, I can see treating his ex wife like that.

They are Trump's kids. His sociopathic worldview is their sociopathic worldview.
