Dear "mass media:" stop shoving videos down our throats

Wasn't sure where to put this. Anyone else tired as Hell of going to major media sites and there are more and more of these videos on their main page that "auto play" (either streaming video clips or infinitely repeating GIFs from Hell)? Clue to sites: if you really think a video should be front and center, just put it up where we have to click the play button to see it. If we don't....hello....IT'S BECAUSE WE DON'T WANT TO WATCH IT. God forbid you consider that possibility.

great way to obscure content: by the time they say anything of substance, we either stopped paying attention or clicked away.
 
Yeah thanks, that's generally what I do, but it's getting harder as it gets more common or at least seems to me to be
 
I'm too cheap to sub to an adblocker so I just use dns.adguard.com in the Private DNS setting on my phone (I suspect there are freebies for a PC browser but not so much for Android).
It doesn't stop all the ads and vids, but damn close.
 
Can check if there's a setting on your browser to not autoplay videos. I have it shut off for pretty much everything but I never use sound on my computer so I'm unaware if videos start playing.
