I'm sure everyone is familiar with this case. I watched an interview with the parents, George and Cindy. What I found interesting is that Cindy doesn't believe her daughter killed her child. George surprised her by saying he knew his daughter did kill his granddaughter.

Thoughts? What about Casey being acquitted?

detection of chloroform; first-degree

I vaguely remember that one of the prosecution's witnesses claimed that he could detect chloroform long after the fact. This is unlikely on the face of it, because chloroform is roughly as volatile as methanol. If you put a drop of methanol on a surface, it will evaporate quickly. If you have a fume hood, you could do the same experiment with chloroform. I will try methanol later today and time it.

I also thought that the prosecution made a tactical error by charging her with first degree murder. They should have charged her with whatever is appropriate in an accidental death, and that way she might have at least been convicted of something. I am not sure how I would have voted regarding first-degree murder, but I would have convicted her of Caylee's accidental death in a heartbeat. Few people deserve some time in prison more than she does.

Skin burns?

You would be wrong there.

I've no idea what this is about. A link to...well, anything would be useful. No matter, I have time, I'll do some googling.

chloroform in the trunk

Skin burns?
I found this as part of an essay at Reddit, so caveat emptor: "What the prosecution did was to present air sampling done by a man named Arpad Vass. He testified that not only did he find chloroform, he found it in “shockingly high” levels. A different test was done by a chemist named Dr. Rickenback. Rickenback also testified that indeed, chloroform was found in the trunk of the car. Both experts reported fairly similar levels, both in the low ppm [parts per million] range, but he was not asked how “high” the levels were."

"[Chemist Michael] Sigman said chloroform is frequently found in bleach."* See this story.

"A prosecution witness [Rickenback] testified that chloroform found in Casey's car could have come from, of all things, cleaning fluid." Inside Edition
*Bleach can react with isopropanol to create chloroform.

Casy Anthony thread removed?

I was sure I posted about Casey Anthony a while ago, but it was deleted. I believe we all know the story, the case, but I am interested in what people believe happened. with the murder of her child. I mean, what really happened to make her a heinous murder. Mark Klass called her an "odious creature". Well said, Mark.

why not guilty of a lesser charge

"Still, he [Professor of law Michael Siegel] was surprised that the Anthony jury didn't find her guilty on a lesser charge than first-degree murder.

'I thought that the prosecution had proven enough of a case that there would probably be some sort of a compromise verdict,' he said." That is what also surprised me. I thought that Caylee's death might have been accidental, from Casey's giving her chloroform with the intention of knocking her out; I hasten to add that if it were, my view of Casey would still be very, very negative.
