Can you beat Trump? Pick the WORST people for his cabinet positions you can think of!

Given the spate of ambassadorships-for-the-useful-idiots that are planned, this could make a hilarious start to Trump's statesmanship qualifications.

First of all, all ambassadors need to be approved by the Senate. Normally that is a rubber stamp situation because all presidents except Trump know that ambassadors need to make good impressions. So the usual candidates are career diplomats with experience (and grace and manners) on the diplomatic corps ladder of success, and hardly likely to cause concern. But if Trump's jaw-droppingly poor candidates don't even pass this hurdle, there might be some extra-heavy-duty Depends required in Mar-a-Lago to contain some displeasure.

Second, I'm wondering what might happen if those countries simply refuse to accept those ambassadorial appointments. All countries are perfectly entitled to refuse ambassadorial credentials and declare the diplomats persona non grata in their countries. This happens when ambassadors are expelled. But refusing them up front is way more uncommon. So what if a raft of countries do this. Simply tell the Trump administration: "Nope. Don't want them here. Don't be insulting, take them away and send a real ambassador." I doubt it will trouble the Orange Ogre much because he has no idea what ambassadors do, and anyway, his idea of diplomacy consists pretty much of personal threats of violence.

Making Walker an ambassador is insulting to that country. The man is obviously a few fries short of a Happy Meal.
At least Trump isn't putting Walker in charge of missile defenses, as he had said he would do before the election.

The title of the thread is,

From reading the posts, it is obvious that the answer to the question is, “NO”.

(also, technically, aren’t all the posts listing Trump’s picks OT?)

That indeed seems to be the case. I was expecting quite a few when I posted the OP. But now that it is clear that most of them are utterly unsuitable, it suggests deliberation in the selection process.

The question then devolves to: WHY is Trumpy picking the worst possible people for his cabinet, ambassadorships and other key government positions?

Why? Vanity as usual. Trump picks the worst people to try to make himself look good by comparison.

The worry is that Trump actually thinks they are the best people.

Because that's all he has.

He picks them because he believes that if he rewards them for their sycophantistry, they will be more sycophantic, and that nourishes him.

Exactly. He's showing the rest of the MAGATs that their sycophantic loyalty will be rewarded cuz he's such a loyal guy himself.
