BREAKING: Feds raid Copperfield warehouse!

Ummm yeah right. Is this a joke?

FBI agents stormed the warehouse and took a number of items for their investigation.

A source tells Eyewitness News there also appeared to be $2 million in cash inside the warehouse that was seized by the FBI.

It's on TMZ.com so it must be true!! Although, reading the article it says "Los Angeles FOX affiliate KVVU is reporting that that magician David Copperfield is being investigated by the FBI." Umm...the Los Angeles FOX affiliate is KTTV. Perhaps the Las Vegas affiliate is KVVU.

I wonder what they're investigating him for?

This news is just breaking. The Feds have just raided a warehouse owned by magician David Copperfield.

UPDATE: FBI agents also went to look around at the MGM Grand:

Why does that first link lead me to a story about joke-telling urinals? Now, I have nothing against joke-telling urinals -- as long as the pee guards are installed, of course -- but what has that to do with the FBI?

"what has that to do with the FBI?" If I told you, I would have to kill myself. :o

Check again. The joke-telling urinals story is still there, but the stories are now mainly about the FBI raid.

Perhaps they're investigating him for secretive behavior? Many of us are witness to his flying without going through TSA checkpoints.

When you make that much money and the FBI raid your place, it's usually about taxes.

I already knew Copperfield made 57 million dollars last year. If somebody two weeks ago asked me to guess how much David Copperfield's act brought in last year I would have said, "57 million dollars." The most disturbing thing about this event is that Leno, Letterman, Kimmel and others are going to use super obvious jokes using words like "disappear" and "vanish," probably with multiple references to his previous feat -- securing a "contract" with and/or banging Claudia Schiffer.

Did they seize a hoard of fake tan and a lot of cheese(left over from his act).

Sorry, but I have this vision similar to someone breaking into the ACME Toon factory. I imagine pigeons flying everywhere, an agent stepping into a box and disappearing, dozens of rabbits hopping around, an elephant, a jet plane, and the Statue of Liberty hidden behind a bookcase, that sort of thing.

Questions:

* What evidence was sufficient enough not only to keep the investigation going, but to convince a judge to issue a warrant for a raid?

* I can understand why the FBI would take a digital camera, and maybe even the computers they took, but why did the FBI take the $2 million?

Apparently upon opening several boxes they found numerous showgirls, some sawn in half,a batch of smashed eggs,a piece from inside the Great wall of China and Webster the duck in a bucket.

Is there any truth the cash was found inside a box that was inside a bigger box, that was securely tied and in full view since before the Feds arrived? :D

More questions:

* Why didn't the lady report it right away? Standard procedure would've had the police get a DNA sample via a sexual assault kit. Then all the FBI has to do is get a warrant for Copperfield's DNA, compare it, and proceed from there.

This is going to be another Duke-U-type false rape case. You'd think attorneys would have learned by now.

Oh -- oops! They are the only ones who walk away scot-free, with tons of cash, from stuff like this.

Hey, if it gets rid of another Mike Nifong, it might be worth it! (Of course, Nifong hardly walked away scot-free.)

I am wondering why he would have $2million in cash.

Because he can?

More seriously, it wouldn't surprise me to hear that there are things he needs to buy for his show and pay them cash rather than order them through mail using a credit card. Tracing material to him might just reveal some of his tricks? (Like, a 2nd bulldozer *shrugs* what do I know?) So, give cash to one of your friends/employees and make them go buy the things you need.

Also keep in mind that it's just a fraction of what he earns every month - that might be easier to explain than if you or I had that type of money lying around. (I, at least, couldn't even begin to explain why I had a wearhouse ...)

well, I find it weird that a rape allegation means they have to search his props and the MGM Grand. Maybe FBI agents just wanted a vacation or something.

If the warrent to search did not include the cash as on objective, I'm not sure how much they can make of it.

Mind you the IRS can go after you no matter WHAT.

Just another odd note. I remember when he was engaged to Claudia Schiffer. Rumors were that he is gay and she was a cover for this so he would remain a sex symbol to his fans.

So, male or female rape.

I guess it's going to be awhile till we know what's going on - the FBI is keeping mum and even Copperfield's lawyer would like some answers from the feds.

It must be nice to be so rich you can keep $2MM in spare change in a wharehouse....

Here's what I found.

I think we need to sit back a bit and watch this pan out, but I am wondering why he would have $2million in cash.
Within my limited experience, any person with a million or more should, just on general principles, keep a small but reasonable (200,000 there, but at least 5% unless we hit over 10 mill)part of it in cash, gems, bearer bonds and equivalent, readily accessible but not generally known. Situations change, be prepared.:D

I also suggest, in no exact order, your original passport (have a second one made up - you are wealthy, you can afford a really good copy to turn over under certain cases. A few with different names and make-up effects is not a bad investment either - as well as several other forms of ID similarly done.), a cell phone /cell phones with very false, as untraceable as possible backgrounds - prepaid for connected periods semi-random for a several month period. Lot's more - but first you have to have the money, then worry about preserving youself and your lifestyle.

Okay, so when are the "David Cop-a-feel" jokes going to start?

It may be worth noting that Kot--I mean, Copperfield--himself has made those same jokes during his shows for decades now.
