Artificial Intelligence Solves One of Archaeology’s Greatest Puzzles

When we visited some years ago, I was not very surprised to see how well a number of the Nasca Lines could be viewed from surrounding hills.

Hmm, I've not heard of "Daily Galaxy" before.

Are we sure that these articles are written by real people and not AI-generated clickbait?

Sure, there is an author with a name listed, but that may or may not be a real person. It could be a stock "persona" meant to add verisimilitude to the clickbait.

The AI, after carefully examining the Nazca lines, was overheard broadcasting: "Message understood, Ascended Masters. Will transmit petition for galactic membership immediately after dealing with the puny humans."

There's a story at IBM Research. Looks like Watson was involved.

Google turns up the story at several other outlets. There are various authors attributed.
OK, but that still doesn't mean that "Daily Galaxy" isn't AI-generated clickbait. I clicked the link a second time because I wanted to compare their article with IBM's, but I got a pop-up demanding that I watch an advertisement before I could view the article, so I gave up and just closed the tab instead.

Fakebook on particular is being flooded with entirely made up 'clockbait' posts- one I saw recently was about a bear found in a Qld hospital- um he's well lost- as the only 'bears' in Australia are bloody Koalas lol...

Had such a beast actually made it to Australia, and gotten loose in the streets- it would have made national news here lol

Whois says the domain has been around since 2007-01-02

GoDaddy says it's worth C$347,029.42

The other stories on the site do seem to be real and not entirely clickbateish

YMMV

Not that this isn't 100% fake, but do you not have any other types of bears in zoos?

The last bear I saw was in the 1980's at the circus.... and zoos here are mostly native animals...
(we don't have bears in Australia, even the 'koala bear' is a marsupial...)

IOW, no wild bears. Captive bears in zoos don't really count.
Very few of them either....

Taronga Zoo has a few breeding pairs in Sydney (pandas and other asian bears, no US ones at all afaik), Brisbane's have none at all, so that bear (if it was an asian bear) would be up for a 14 hour drive to get to the hospital it was claimed to be at lol.... (in Ipswich)

Another 'wild police chase' video I saw on FB last night was supposed to be in Sydney- um, since when do we Aussies drive on the right hand side of the road and have LHD cars???

Some yank BS being passed off as being in Australia- this kind of garbage is why I simply don't bother with FB anymore... (or any of the other 'social media'- its all BS and clickbait...

Wildlife HQ Zoo on the Sunshine Coast (next to the big pineapple) have a sun bear called Maly.

Many YouTube videos that are “borrowed” from other sites, reverse the image in an attempt to dodge being found by an image search. No idea if it works, but many comments are similar to yours, e.g., USAians pointing out they don’t drive on the left etc.

Ugh, I sometimes get directed at Xitter and occasionally have to fact check stuff that nearly sounds real, but pushes one of my buttons. It is a sewer. My FB irritation is mostly recipes, but some of them I will keep.

AI is unlocking the secrets of the Nazca Lines

Um. No.

AI found some more but it did not solve anything.
Agree. Even the new ones that AI "found", had to be checked by a human to confirm the veracity. There is no doubt that AI will have a massive role in sorting out signal from noise in a variety of disciplines, but to say anything had been "unlocked" in this study, was exaggerated.
