When a mistrial is called, how much can protentional jurors be aware of prior results, such as in high profile cases?

I haven't been a juror, but as a member of the public, in the gallery, I can remember potential jurors being asked if they believed that they could ignore or disregard what they'd seen/heard outside of the court.

I don't remember seeing anyone rejected because of their answer.

Caveat, this was in the 1980s and memory is poor.

Kind of depends on what the judge decides in pre-trial motions. How many previous felonies?
