When we moved to Xenfora some of the signature options didn't come over. I've set maximum number of lines to 4 and unlimited characters.

Did Sun Tzu say "Build your opponent a golden bridge to retreat across"?

With the war in Ukraine going badly for Russia, there's a quote that's been appearing lately: "Build your opponent a golden bridge to retreat across." It's attributed to Sun Tzu, whose only extant work is The Art of War dating from the Late Spring and Autumn period in China, roughly the 5th...

The Gog Magog war of Ezekiel 38 and 39

Would anyone who is a Bible skeptic be convinced if the war which is discussed in Ezekiel chapters 38 and 39 occured? Would you be convinced that the stage is set for this war right now? Consider that it involved Magog (generally agreed upon as Russia), Persia (Iran), Libya, Ethiopia (Read...

Could the US have made a deal with Saddam?

Before anyone goes crazy on me, yes, I agree that Saddam was a murderous, bloodthirsty dictator who was about as morally corrupt as any ruler in modern history. Ok, I get that. I understand. He was a really, really, really, evil piece of crap. However, we have made deals with evil pieces of...

Can democracy in Iraq survive a US withdrawal?

As November approaches, the most important topic of dispute between the Republican party and the Democrats will certainly be the issue of staying/withdrawing from Iraq. Clinton or Obama, McCain or.. um.. they are in stark contrast on what to do in that country. Al-Zarqawi made clear what his...

The real reason of the US-led invasion of Iraq?

I remember Oliver making a similar statement (BTW, where has Oliver gone?), but I think it deserves one thread of its own. Since the US did not invade Iraq because of 911, not because of WMD, it is hard to give an explanation to the invasion. I just found a possible explanation here: Prior...

Number of US casualties in Iraq dropping sharply

http://icasualties.org/oif/US_chart.aspx I have no idea if this has been posted before, but it seems that things in Iraq are improving, but as the US number of casualties is declining, and as the number of Iraqis getting killed is also declining 7th month in a row with US troops deaths declining

Iraq Starting to Wake Up From the Nightmare?

Is it too soon to hope that the worst is over for Iraq? This article and accompanying video are encouraging. None of this means the war was a good idea, and the future seems opaque, but it looks like at least temporarily things are starting to improve.

This is a photo I took a couple of days after 9/11/01. The quality isn't as good as the print because of the poor quality scanner i have. This was taken with my film minolta with B&W film in it. Threatening Petroeuro?

There is a rumor that the Invasion of Iraq had something to do with Saddam's plans to switch to the Petroeuro which allegedly would have threatened the US economy. Now I'm not very familiar with the Petrodollar/Petroeuro system - what would have been/would be the damage for the US economy if...

Would you agree with zuhayr ibn Abî Sûlmâ's assessment on War?

Zuhayr is one of my favourite poets at the current time of writing, and it seems to me this part of his long ode from the pre-Islamic book of the Mu'allaqat, is the very definition of the misfortune being aroused by war today, especially in the fight on terror. Would you agree? "And war is not...

Why is Bush still trying to start a war with Iran?

"Nine U.S. military ships entered the Gulf on Wednesday for a rare daylight assembly off Iran’s coast in what naval officials said was the largest such move since the 2003 Iraq war. U.S. Navy officials said Iran had not been notified of plans to sail the vessels, which include two aircraft...

ie either by military victory or a "tie" via attrition.... Three schools of thought that I can think of: - Sooner or later in the near-term after that we would have gone back to war and sooner or later the North would win due to superior resources. So timeframes would change somewhat but...
