What is this voter registration? Describe it to a Brit. Apart from allowing you into exclusively partisan rallies, what does it achieve and how is it managed?

http://www.smackdownyourvote.com/ This is a campaign to register fans of professional wrestling. I understand that they want to give it a wrestling-themed title, but using 'smackdown' just doesn't seem right to me. So what other names could they have used that may be more appropriate...
