When we moved to Xenfora some of the signature options didn't come over. In the old software signatures were limited by a character limit, on Xenfora there are more options and there is a character number and number of lines limit. I've set maximum number of lines to 4 and unlimited characters.

    Pat Robertson... Really? Reallyy????

Just went to the log-in page and saw the banner ads... Today JREF is brought to you courtesy of those free thinkers at Regent University. And the front page topic on JREF itself is an 'MMA expert' We can't call ******** in this forum, we have to 'play nice' with the Strorm Front...

Iran training thousands of women as ninjas

No, really. Okay, so it's mostly an article about the long struggle that female athletes (including martial artists who have competed in the Olympics) have faced in the oppressive Islamic Republic of Iran, and some of their hard-fought victories. Still, as the article notes, "There are...

    Hard vs Soft Martial Arts

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_martial_art I've always been bothered by these terms and it seems to me that people that actually use these terms tend to be the "nerdy" martial artists or martial arts fans. It makes no sense to me. Muay Thai doesn't meet force with force, most of the...

    Chi - A Skeptic's Journey to Belief

I think my skeptical tendencies are well known here, but something about chi always nagged at me. If we can have dark energy, why not chi? After all, it's the energy of the universe. I decided to see if I could perform a Chi Knock-out Punch. Rather than work with martial arts experts, I learned...

    Choosing a Martial Art

NOTICE: I first posted this in the sports forum. But since there is so little traffic over there, I'm reposting it here. Sorry if it doesn't quite fit the description of the forum. Hi, My wife and children have forced me into a lifestyle of healthy food, regular sleep and no alcohol binges. I...

The History Channel and "Ancient Technologies"

I suffered through one of those History Channel efforts last night, one of their "ancient technologies" series. They seem to be currently hung up on stuff like death machines, torture devices, and the like. This one dealt, supposedly in a "scientific" manner, with a variety of Chinese weapons...

Martial Arts: Chi, Dim Mak and other martial arts woo

As a practitioner of martial arts, chi/ki or inner energy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ch%27i ) plays an important role in many traditional eastern martial arts. I've had the luck of studying with good sensei's that teach some meditative components of martial arts but are not into the whole...

    another glen levy thread

I have made a post about this before but I recently downloaded the video of national geographic's special Fight Science and it reminded me of the enigma Glen Levy. I still see no way for a 5 foot 10 inch guy to generate more force with a hammerfist strike than a 200lb boxer can with any punch...

    Xinyiluihequan

True practitioners of this art can kill a person, garunteed. The strikes will indeed damage the insides and the person will die, the takedowns will break a persons spine, it works. It is what it is, and does what it's designed to do. It's based on 10 different animals' ways of fighting, the...

    Ashida Kim: Martial Arts Fraud

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3l3y3B4cls0 I just saw this on youtube. This guy, Ashida Kim was rather popular in the 80's and sold plenty of ninja books. He's full of garbage, as you can see in the video. This feat has as much to do with having "deadly" fingers as walking on glass has to...

    Martial Arts Conundrum

So I've been attending TMA classes for about a year now. (Longfist Kung Fu, since you're wondering). As I've got to know the instructor and the style better, my teacher has started to teach me in the more... errm... spiritual side of Chinese MA. We're talking the full shebang here - chi...

"Internal" strength in the martial arts

Anyone with some exposure to the martial arts has heard about 'external' and 'internal' martial arts. I wrote this up recently on the issue http://www.statisticool.com/internal.htm Is their vector theory the best they can do? It isn't really a convincing theory I must say.
