When we moved to Xenfora some of the signature options didn't come over. In the old software signatures were limited by a character limit, on Xenfora there are more options and there is a character number and number of lines limit. I've set maximum number of lines to 4 and unlimited characters.

I'm on my last warning at the library!!

I've just returned from my weekly sojourn at my local library, trouble is it could be my penultimate visit. I like to think that I'm a helpful chap and as such I often go out of my way to assist others less fortunate than myself, wether that be physically, financially or intellectually. As part...

    Paranormal bias in Nevada libraries

I have an interest in Tarot cards, not for woo, but for playing card games so I came across some presentations at some local branch libraries called "Mystic Fair" and "Secrets of Tarot" which I feel may be unconstitutional as public institutions are being used for the promotion of psychic and...

    Gov Palin and the library

There has been some tempest vs teapot stuff about Gov Palin burning down libraries and executing librarians who didn't cooperate. (Or something like that.) Anyhow, here is a link to a relevant piece from the local paper. I found it in the online American Library Association (long may it wave)...

    Mencken Day!

Once a year, the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore celebrates Mencken Day with speakers and a tour of the Mencken Collection. The collection is of his books and papers which he bequeathed to the library on the condition that it was available to the public only on his birthday. We have...

    "Facts from the Stacks"?

It’s National Library Week - Facts from the Stacks :hb: "It’s facts, Jim, but not as we know them."

Should libraries have this kind of stuff?

I work for a public library. Today while I was putting together some information to take to a meeting, I ran across a folder that our reference staff put together about "alternative medicine resources." I offered the opinion that as a library we shouldn't be promoting that kind of stuff, and one...

    Woo vs. Woo

Okay, I saw this story in the paper and I just needed to share it (I've tried searching the for this story through the forums. I didn't find anything, but just in case, if I'm repeating anything...my apologies). What follows is a story out of my home state, South Carolina. It's about a...

    Library Interent Filters

Library Internet Filters Okay, so I am working my shift Saturday afternoon at the Library, when a patron (a woman in her 60's) approached the circulation desk ti file a complaint: "That boy over there in the maroon shirt is looking at naked women.", she announced in a not so quiet voice. I...

    Gays and Public Libraries

I'm real proud of my little North Ontario hometown (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pembroke%2C_Ontario). Yes, it's like something out of Twin Peaks, but at least they're doing the right thing when it comes to it's Public Library and the complaints of a single individual...

    My Library is an embarassment.

I picked up an "Upcoming Books!" Paper from my local library, and much to my dismay, I saw the following: Brown, Sylvia. Father God: Co-Creator to Mother God. (202.11) Worst of all, this was under the section entitled "Non-Fiction." I am embarassed to have my library even carry this nonsense...

    Post your library here!

Here are some pics of my current library. Everything is just "as is", nothing posed. The first two pics are of the bookcases of stuff I haven't read yet. There are, of course, several books stacked in other areas that I have not pictured here. Amazingly, I've bought very few books in the...

Trudeau's book, and Hope at the Library...

I'm lucky. I live fairly equidistant to five different branches of my local library system, and I'm usually at one of them daily. Recently, I've talked to several librarians who are dismayed over the stocking of Kevin Trudeau's book, and concerned over it's popularity. Our library is facing...

    Trudeau library watch

I'm afraid I have to report that, like Frank Ward's library system, my otherwise excellent local library system, the Fairfax County Public Library (with nearly a million potential patrons), has forty copies of Kevin Trudeau's "Natural Cures"! That's about 2 copies per branch. I've emailed them a...

    Libraries!

We MUST talk about libraries!!! When I get disenchanted withlife in general, Ijust wish I could hide in a library forever with 4 meals a day and half hour of sunlight per dayer, I think intimate visitation time would be nice also. But I digress... What is it you like in a library? How should...

    Academic Libraries

There was an article in June about this topic in the Chronicle of Higher Education but here is the story again in the Christian Science monitor http://csmonitor.com/2005/0823/p01s05-legn.html As a librarian, I find this interesting but not alarming and an appropriate change. Two important...
