When we moved to Xenfora some of the signature options didn't come over. Botswana threatens to send 20,000 elephants to Germany

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-68715164 At first I thought it was an Onion headline, but it's true. Make your own joke here. Just even imagining having to get them there, with their GDP, would probably drain it. And then, what is Germany going to do with 20K elephants?

African Elephant Populations in Rapid Decline

African Elephant Population Declines By 30 Percent That is between 2007 and 2014. In terms of absolute numbers, the population declined by 144,000 animals in just seven years. I don't know about you but to me, a 30% decline in just seven years seems very alarming. And the reason appears to be...

    Elephant Art

This is a video of an elephant in Thailand that is apparently painting pictures of elephants. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cy9kKxJJpug Is it for real? Can an elephant do this? Is this elephant doing this, or is its helper 'helping' it? And is the art-teacher from London, who says she's...

    Elephant "graveyards"

I was watching a show yesterday about animals and intellect, a PBS Nature series. At one point, the habits of elephants with the bones of their own species was brought up, and some things were said that made me ponder. Not verbatim, mind you: "Elephants fondle and inspect only the bones of...

    How smart are elephants?

I just watched this video on youtube, which shows an elephant painting a so called 'self portrait' which is really a pretty simple drawing of an elephant holding a flower. Still I was pretty impressed Does anyone here know much about elephants? Are they really this smart, or do you think it is...

    Elephant Art?

This has been all over the news tonight. What do we all think? Are Elephants aware enough to produce 'art'? Does it count as art if it's not painted by a human? I am sceptical. I think these articles smack of anthropormorphism and I would liek to see some evidence that these elephants are...

    Elephant Art.

I was under the impression that only human beings had the capacity to conceptualise abstract ideas - a prerequisite for the creation of true "art". Apparently not...

    Elephant's paintings sell for thousands

Thousands of Thai Baht, that is; that's how much Mrs. Phildonnia valued a "still-life with flowers" painted before our eyes by a pachyderm with some encouragement and paint-selection from his trainer. This was during my recent trip to Thailand. The elephant training center produces many...

    Scientific American Elephant Frontiers

Did anyone see the Scientific American Frontiers show involving communication among creatures with sound? There was an experiment shown in the program, the experiment involving an elephant who lifted her foot in response to sounds. If she heard a sound, she lifted her foot. If she heard no...
