Merged Don't Tweet while drunk! / TIMES columnist mocked for his airport meal tweet

Or X, or Xweet, or what the hell ever it's called today. Current example: David Brooks, NYT columnist. As noted in the Biden thread. "OMG, it's all Biden's fault that a burger and fries costs $78!!!" Reality: Burger and fries cost $18, the rest was booze. Don't post while drunk. Or stoned...

Does the presence of ice in an alcoholic drink increase the risk of a stroke?

I have tried to find something on this online but came up empty, so I ask here if there is any basis to a very old belief I have known a few hard drinkers to share. Drinking alcohol is already considered to put the drinker at risk of stroke, but is it true that the risk is elevated if there are...

    Drinking milk and consuming alcohol

When I was younger, so much younger than today, I learned that drinking milk before consuming large amounts of alcohol (now, who would do *that*) the milk would help by blocking the alcohol getting into your blood. Apparently the fat in the milk blocked the alcohol or some such. Is there...

    Probabilities

It's nearly four in the morning, and I'm absolutely hammered. I've just run a wine-tasting evening, and was hoping someone could help me with the probabilities. Basically, in a single-blinded test, contestants were given six whites and six reds, in numbered glasses, along with a list of all...

Is alcoholism a disease or something else?

Disease or not, we can all agree that alcoholism is a serious problem. The idea that alcoholism is a disease was largely popularized by Alcoholics Anonymous, to my understanding. Many doctors and alcohol/drug addiction specialists agree that alcoholism is a disease. However, not everyone agrees...

Is alcohol a useful sleep aid?

I have two questions for anyone who can shed light on this topic: First, is there any evidence that shows the effects of alcohol on sleep? Second, I've heard that you are warmed up by consuming alcohol because your heart has to pump out more blood due to the level of alcohol in the blood...

    10% on cider or not

So the torries have said they are not going to increase the tax on cider. Aside from the problem of how they are going to pay for this the continueing low tax on cider only continues to encourage the production of low quality "ciders" in order to get the best alcohol to price ratio.

Alcohol Prohibition - Should we bring it back?

In the thread about making drugs illegal we have started talking about alcohol prohibition, especially in the early 20th century in the US. Drinking alcohol in Malaysia: legal for Christians, illegal for Muslims

I just saw this CNN story about a Muslim woman who is going to be caned for drinking beer in public. A dual track legal system. That strikes me as so strange. The idea that all are equal before the law seems so fundamental to me, that I am having a hard time accepting this model.

    Safe Grad Parties

I read a short article in the Leader Post today regarding what's called "safe grad parties". It's called "safe"...

I used to be a Christian, and now I lean towards the non-existence of my eternal big-brother. However, I still don't drink alcohol, due to a variety of reasons that go well beyond religion.
