  • Hello :) I'm a full-time student on student-loan. My diet continues to consist almost entirely of thrown out Starbucks sandwiches—that's how poor I am. This time last year I was homeless. I'm currently 4 months into a 9 month-long trades foundation program and have gotten A's in every module thusfar. Connecting with the ScientificSkepticism community has been a huge influence on these changes I've made. I went through the backcatalogue of the SGU while getting into shape, cycling around Vancouver; and notwithstanding the above-noted financial constraints, am a DamnedDirtyApe-level contributor. I can arrange air/hotel when the second tranche of my studentloan is disbursed mid-May but it would make a huge difference if I could get discounted or granted entry. Thank you in advance for your consideration, Bill Plummer. 4873 Greentree Pl. Burnaby, BC V5G3V4 billjplummer@gmail.com
ooh, just spotted Guy Steele's acknowledgement of you in Common Lisp, The Language.

Hi Paul, Whille reading the "New evidence for mind beyond brain, or perhaps morphic resonance?" I was reminded of this which again would be helpful I think.
    Science Friday
The human brain contains some 100 billion neurons, which together form a network of Internet-like complexity. Christof Koch, chief scientific officer of the Allen Institute for Brain Science, calls the brain "the most complex object in the known universe," and he's mapping its connections in hopes of discovering the origins of consciousness. http://www.sciencefriday.com/segment...-universe.html

I also want to apologize for a couple of errors in deletions in part one I had mentioned that I am a former military officer..... & didnt reread the sliced & diced transformation into 3 parts before I hit the post message button; [is that what you meant by PM ???]
    part 3 - continuation/ ending
I am not formally a member for financial reasons - I have subscriptions to mags such as Sci Amer & Disc & Skept Inq. & others which add up $$$. I publicize P & T's '********'. I would like to be able to be more active in terms of outreach here & I am hoping that by attending TAM 2013 I will get some help to make that possible. My abilities & knowledge are substantial, & I hope my attending TAM will help me connect with others who can amplify my knowledge & abilities towards the aims of JREF.
Thank you for your consideration !
    Respectfully, [Capt] Brian Ditter.

P.S. the abbreviations are a result of cutting back on the original text of ~4800 characters; sorry. Over Half of original text was eliminated & still had to send this in 3 parts as I do not have your email address & do not know where to get it.
    part 2 - continuation
. I am also a Board member of DSA - but rather go to TAM given a choice. I was going to give a talk at the annual mtg in Atlanta in June - but can send it as a paper. I was planning to prepare a talk for TAM this year dealing with Stuart Kauffman's work on The Origins or Order [I could use help in reaching SK]. I have 100s of books that I recommend others read on dozens of topics; incl Dennet's books ! I definitely will attend the sessions & hope to be able to give presentations at TAM in the future. I am a lifelong student & read at least two top nonfict bks /wk. I also make recommendations to the public library on books to buy. .....[my original message / draft was ~4800 characters- which I sliced & diced to just under 2200].....
    Dear Paul Anagnostopoulos, [part 1]
I am Brian Ditter at 146 Liberty St in Middletown Ct, 06457. I am a 'generalist' with 9 yrs of college level classes in mult areas: engineering, robotics, philosophy, psychology, linguistics, etc- many at GRADUATE LEVEL . I work for the Upward Bound math & sci pgm At Wesleyan Univ. The director Beverly Hunter Daniels [13 yrs] can be reached via 860-685-3184. Last yr I was getting ~ 25 hrs/wk; this yr ~15 hrs/wk. Officer I do get I am a life member of Amer Atheists #28 & volunteered for YEARS in Austin, Tx w Madalyn O'Hair. I help tutor students & discuss topics dealing with nonsense constantly at Wesleyan Univ- fighting ignorance & exposing irrationality & nonsense. & talk about the million $ psychic challenge. I am also a member of several skeptic, humanist & atheist groups. A friend [PhD] will help/w transp if I get a grant - she wants to go to Las Vegas .
    I am Richard Miller, 5110 N 31st Way,#315 Phoenix AZ 85016.
I am retired and living on SS, not a JREF member, but a member of the forum.
I am a lifelong atheist/skeptic, Vice President of the Phoenix chapter of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, board member of Phoenix Freedom from Religion Foundation, and member of American Humanists.
I have purchased the $100 workshop pass for this year.
I attended with friends last year, and although not registered I enjoyed meeting the attendees very much, and was able to attend a few of the evening events.
The highlight of my experience was when James walked from the JREF table, across the hallway to where I was sitting, and introduced himself as though I would not know who he was.
A friend emailed me the information about applying for a grant, and I am doing so.
    Thanks for your consideration.

    Hey Paul,

I'm still alive :) I lurk very occasionally but life is so busy I even more rarely bother posting because I know I likely wont have chance to follow up.

    All is well with you?

    Tez
    Hi Paul,

Just wondering--as a grant recipient, when I get to TAM, do I just give my name at the presumed) check in table? This will be my first TAM. BTW, I won't be arriving 'til Friday (bummer).

    Thanks,
    Stacy

I'm not a JREF member, nor a student. I'm an unemployed paralegal making films in his spare time & am very active in the skeptical community. I co-founded stopjenny.com. I blog at www.skepacabra.wordpress.com & write for the Vaccine Times blog. I used to write for the Gotham Skeptic, the now canceled official blog of the NYC Skeptics. I was a volunteer at this year's NECSS & I intend to continue to play an active leadership role in the community. It's important to me that I network more w/ other skeptics because I know how beneficial such contacts can be. When I came up w/ the idea for stopjenny.com, I didn't have the skills necessary to make the site myself & so I posted a thread on the JREF forums. Within a week after I came up with the idea, that site went live. So I can only imagine what kind of skeptical plots might be hatched if I get to interact w/ other creative skeptics in person.
Hello, I would like to apply for the JREF Grant for TAM 8
    Darrell Aucoin

JREF membership status: None; I could apply for the student or introductory but I don't have much money right now

    employment/student status
Currently looking for a part-time or full-time job, my current job cut my hours from 40 to 16 hours with the government helping out with EI (employment Insurance.) Also applied to the University of Alberta for the fall; I drastically want a change in carreer that I can find rewarding.

As for the reason I want to go to TAM 8 is that I have some friends that went to TAM 7 and told me how awesome it is. Not to mention various youtubers also promoting TAM ie. http://www.youtube.com/user/captaindisillusion

    Thanks for your time
My name is Paul Zimmerle and I'm a senior Cultural Anthropology student at UCLA. Quite aside from how fun my friends have always told me TAM is, I'm interested in going because I'm deeply interested in skeptical topics (small surprise, being an officer of the Bruin Alliance of Skeptics and Secularists here.) It's been my desire for years to become more involved in skeptically-oriented endeavors, and I've joined IIG (the investigative branch of CFI) and considered internships for just that reason. At TAM, I can help improve the networking I've already begun developing elsewhere. Not to mention... it's going to be really, really fun.
I send you an Email. If you want to get a hold of me you can call me on my Cell (831)905-0129 or keep in contact with Susan like you have been.
    Thank You So Much
