my own disbelieving eyes.

Apropos - remember the video where you claimed that my observation of people getting shot from behind from the direction of the filmers was clearly wrong? There's a new analysis with additional footage around which might make your eyes believe. ;)

edit: I hope I don't have to explain to you that assuming that those deadly shots from the back mean that there hasn't been shooting from the front would be something only pseudo-skeptics incapable of avoiding non sequitur would do.

"Back and to the left... back and to the left..."

I watched about half that video before concluding that the video was insufficient to conclude anything.

Can you explain how, if these people were being shot from behind, the shield at 35 secs is indented on the police side after being shot?

This is what I meant when I said we need someone who understands terminal ballistics to actually weigh in, rather than toss around this laughable "analysis" from biased sources as if it had any merit or worth.

Poor sods! It wasn't enough to have the police shooting them up, the protesters needed to escalate the situation with air guns and 22 caliber bullets! That'll up the body count!

Anyone wanna read something extra creepy?

The Foundations of Geopolitics: The Geopolitical Future of Russia

My god, that reads like Russian Mein Kampf for 21st century.

No, thanks, i've read The Grand Chessboard: American Primacy and Its Geostrategic Imperatives shortly after it was published and seeing Brzezinski sit on the "Ukraine Debate Panel" at the Munich Security Conference 2014 was much creepier than any wikipedia article with multiple issues wildly exaggerating the influence Dugin has on anything could ever be.

Me too.

Take a look at the Syrian thread for some real youtube hijinks. Wall to wall pareidolia, during which the pareidoliasits repeatedly praise themselves on their remarkable "detective" skills. Cringe worthy, but hilarious.

Hey! Don't besmirch that hard-hitting analysis - don't you know how many HOURS they've poured over youtube videos in order to arrive at pre-determined conclusions? :D

Dugin getting the last laugh.

Liverant's choice of Dugin as a collective image of Russia's intellectual and political trends is not accidental. As Liverant says, Dugin and his philosophy are not an "insignificant episode in Russian intellectual history; on the contrary, they reflect the dominant trend in current Russian politics and culture. If we wish to understand the zeitgeist that prevails in Russia today, it is essential for us to acquaint ourselves with this thinker, who expresses the innermost feelings of many of his fellow countrymen and their leadership."

Sandy Hook Truthers and No-Planers, on a geopolitical scale.

ETA: No to Moon Landing, Yes to Ukrainian conspiracies. The triumph of YouTube era photo hobbyism.

Excellent coverage of this story on Democracy Now this morning. You can read the transcript or watch the roundtable here:

Roundtable: As Crimea Threatens Secession, Does East-West Split Hasten Ukraine’s Political Divide?

It puts the mainstream news coverage to shame and reveals John Kerry's statements as grossly oversimplified. Let's hope that's just his dumbed down public information.

The roundtable also makes the right wing neocon hissy fit look as ignorant as a rabid dog, and no less dangerous if the dog gets out of the yard.

If this book really is taken seriously by the Russian Miliatry and Putin's yes men, we are in deep, deep, trouble ,folks.
Did the crazy who wrote this think that using Russian Special forces in the United States would go unnoticied, and not be considered an act of open war?
I really, really, hope this book is not taken seriously in the Russian Govenment. But I am scared it just might be.

Stephan Cohen, Putin's Number One American Fan,was mouthing his usual garbage on CNN last night.....Putin is innocent, the West is to blame,etc...and then openly advocated the partition of the Ukraine.
I would love to hack into Cohen's bank account and see exactly who is making deposits in it.I admit I have my suspiscions......

Crimea is going to hold a referendum on whether to join Russia:

My take: I think this is a little bit hasty and I worry about whether the vote will be free and fair. In the long run though, I don't see why the Crimean people don't have the right to decide. If Scotland can have a referendum on whether to secede from the UK, why can't Crimea have one on whether to secede from Ukraine? Problem is, why the big hurry, and will international observers be able to monitor the vote to make sure it's fair.

According to this, the questions are quite...

Soviet.

http://www.kyivpost.com/content/ukraine/two-choices-in-crimean-referendum-yes-and-yes-338745.html

Voters in Ukraine’s Russian-occupied Crimea who vote in the March 16 referendum have two choices – join Russia immediately or declare independence and then join Russia.

So the choices are “yes, now” or “yes, later.”

Voting “no” is not an option.

The ballot asks two questions and leaves no option for a “no” vote. Voters are simply asked to check one of two boxes:

Do you support joining Crimea with the Russian Federation as a subject of Russian Federation?

And:

Do you support restoration of 1992 Crimean Constitution and Crimea's status as a part of Ukraine?

That Constitution declares that Crimea is an independent state.

The questions are written in Russian, Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar, the three most widely spoken languages on the peninsula, and the paper carries a warning in all three languages that marking both options will invalidate the ballot.

Of course, this looks like a Ukrainian site, so YMMMV...

Wow. Godwin be damned, those plebisicte questions sound an awful lot like those Hitler asked in one of his plebiscite.
Dictorial Minds Think Alike.

It is tragic, really, I was one of those who had great hopes for Russia after the fall of Communism, and hoped that the resurgence of Great Russian Nationalism..which is imperailism, pure and simple....was a temporary phenenmenon, but, sadly, it is becoming clear that the dark side of the Russian charecter has won, and we are in for another long, twilight struggle.
Anybody who has any hopes for PUtin being other then an aggresive dictator, is living in la la land.
Anybody who supports him as a champion of anti imperalist causes is a moron.

It isn't. It's a "western" owned paper with no edition in Ukrainian language, but close connection to the Orange and Brown revolutions.

I choose to trust RT in this particular case, since it clearly shows Putin is a little less democratic than You-know-who. Surely Kremlin would not tarnish it's own image, so it's legitemate.

The question alone invalidates any and all democratic credentials this referendum may have. I'm sure Duma won't mind.

As far as I know the question fine, just the Yes and No boxes weren't equal. Putin is worse in this particular regard.
