From that second link:
Miss Martin however told the Telegraph: "I am not going to Crimea despite the statement RT has made."

Either the station management is essentially trying to discredit her statements (she doesn't know what she's talking about, too cowardly to find out), or they're setting up grounds to fire her (she refused an assignment). Maybe a bit of both. But either way, she's not actually going to Crimea. Good on her, though, for speaking up despite knowing that it would piss in Putin's corn flakes.

Considering she's a conspiraloon who buys into 9/11 Inside Job theories, thinks fluoridated water is a plot to poison the water supply and brainwash Americans, and believes "Freemasons" (read: Jews) control the media and are subverting American democracy, I'm not exactly sympathetic towards her.

Fair enough. But even crazy people should be honest about their beliefs. That way you at least know that they're crazy.

Greenwald?

To the point as usual, thanks for asking.

Glenn Greenwald said:
[...] UPDATE II: In response to my question about whether any U.S. television hosts issued denunciations of the attack on Iraq similar to what Martin just did on RT, Washington lawyer Bradley Moss replied: “Phil Donahue (MSNBC) and Peter Arnett (NBC).”

Leaving aside that Arnett wasn’t a host, this perfectly proves the point I made, since both Donahue and Arnett were fired because of their opposition to the U.S. war. Arnett was fired instantly by NBC after he made critical comments about the war effort on Iraqi television, while a memo from MSNBC executives made clear they were firing Donahue despite his show being the network’s highest-rated program because he would be “a difficult public face for NBC in a time of war”.

During that same time, MSNBC’s rising star Ashleigh Banfield was demoted and then fired after she delivered a stinging rebuke of misleading pro-war TV coverage by U.S. outlets, while Jessica Yellin, at MSNBC during the time of the war, admitted in 2008 that “the press corps was under enormous pressure from corporate executives, frankly, to make sure that this was a war that was presented in a way that was consistent with the patriotic fever in the nation and the president’s high approval ratings” and that executives would change stories to make them more pro-war.

All of that stands in rather stark contrast to the clear denunciation of the Russian intervention by Martin which RT broadcast and this morning is promoting. We’ll see if she suffers any recriminations, but if she does, U.S. media behavior during the attack on Iraq was hardly any better.

Amusing that one of most extreme of our resident's old school Lefties is finding common cause with a Right Wing Nutjob like "Greenwald".

It's more important to the extreme left that somebody be "Anti Imperalist" and "Anti Capitalist" then that he be pro freedom.
Apparently they're fine with Imperialism if the Imperialist is anti-West.

That's what you get by invading: Tide of opinion turns against Russia in Ukraine’s east

More tidbits about the Russian protester busloads:
Kiev says the protests – which erupted simultaneously in Kharkiv, Odessa, Dnipropetrovsk and several other cities hours before Russia’s parliament voted to grant Putin authority for armed force – were organized by Moscow as a pretext to invade. It says most of the pro-Russian demonstrators were Russians brought across the border in busloads.

It is certainly clear that many of Gubarev’s followers are not from Donetsk, where locals speak Russian with an easily recognizable accent. One, who said he was a miner from a nearby village, was unable to name either the village or a single mine in a region known across the ex-Soviet Union for its coal.

This is an interesting idea:
The authorities in Kiev have made one important bet that could prove decisive in the east: naming some of the country’s richest men as governors of their home regions.

Ukraine’s oligarchs, who once mainly backed Yanukovych, have lined up behind the new authorities in Kiev. Most have their own roots in the east, where Ukraine’s mineral resources and factories are mainly located.

More from Donetsk: Ukraine crisis: separatist in Donetsk proclaims 'people's government'
The organisers of the rally have denied accusations that protestors were bussed in from Russia to take part in rallies. One local activist said members of the crowd spoke with the distinct hard g-sound common in the Rostov region just over the border.
"I sure they were paid to participate in those numbers but I have to say unfortunately that most of the people are from this city," a city journalist who witnessed the storming of the building said.

/Russia-Today-host-who-criticised-Kremlin-sent-to-Crimea.html"]Russia Today host who criticised Kremlin sent to Crimea - Russian state-funded TV presenter in anti-Kremlin tirade sent to Crimea to get a 'better understanding' of situation on the ground
Guess they won't be reporting that any time soon.

Where exactly was she censored? I saw the video so she wasn't?

I think all of the saber-rattling was to achieve one aim, and one aim only. For Russia to get Ukraine to back off with closer integration to the EU and NATO. I'm pretty sure that this has been at least semi-successful. Though Russia's use of blunt force might've cemented even more sentiment against Russia.

Now look at that:

translation of UNIAN report said:
A “third force” was involved in the conflict between the protesters and police which resulted in almost 100 deaths, says Acting Minister of Internal Affairs Arseniy Avakov.

“Two weeks ago bullets were flying in Kyiv, in the very center,” he said. “A very serious investigation is underway. I think the time will come when we release the facts: who was shooting whom and on whose command. Fact are now being pieced together. I can just say one thing: the key factor in the confrontation which resulted in the bloody slaughter in Kyiv, turned the battlefield upside down and induced a state of shock was a third force. This force was not Ukrainian. We must understand this very clearly,” he said.

“This is not a question of political opposition. The core issue is human values and our sense of what has happened. It is unacceptable when outside forces presume to control us,” he added. [...]

Chances are that the blame game will influence the outcome of who will be accused of "commanding" the third force, but it's very remarkable that the evidence from several sources keeps pointing to it, now even from the acting interior minister.

Actually Abby, that's exactly what it means.

Actually, TBV, that's not exactly what it means.

Martin's monologue against the Russian intervention hasn't been "censored". It's still there and she hasn't been fired (yet) for it, or refusing RT's invitation to visit Crimea. I despise RT and Martin's crypto-racist conspiracy nonsense, but you gotta give them some props for "Breaking the Set"...at least so far. Wait for credible confirmation before pulling the trigger, OK pal?

Hmm RIDL?

NATO is really really not on a cold war footing at this point.

Not possible even in theory.

1)Russia isn't a superpower any more. 2)Russia has enough missiles to overwhelm anything the US can afford to build in any case.

Syria wasn't targeted as that suggests a level of control over events that the west doesn't have. Lukashenko's dictatorship in Belarus looks pretty stable to me.

Venezuela isn't meaningfully a Russian ally. It simply has a leadership that wants to annoy the US. And the cause of its present instability are internal.

As for Ukraine arguably part of the problem is most of the west doesn't have a meaningful plan with regards to Ukraine.

No it is launching an invasion in breach of guarantees is has previously signed.

You think John Kerry managed to plan a coup?

lmao you know what you said there is Bull. the United States is desperately hanging on to its superpower status amidst Russian resurgence and China's growing clout. the missile shield system in eastern europe, the increasing presence in South China sea and Africa, the destabilization in the middle east and unfriendly countries. You're the only one who believes syria wasn't targeted either. US almost bombed the **** out of it on fabricated pretext.

According to this article, Ukraine is pretty much in stalemate for both Russia and the west.

ETA: This article also talks about previous western back revolutions which garnered very little change in the past.

btw, for those who question Putin's sanity without being able to type Mrs. Merkel's name correctly: The NYT "leak" was refuted by her Chancelleresses' press agents as correctly translated in this article which contains some other interesting information.

DIE WELT said:
The chancellery is unhappy about the report in the New York Times. Merkel by no means meant to express that Putin behaved irrational. In fact she told Obama that Putin has a different perspective about the Crimea [than Obama has]
