Continuation Part Seven: Discussion of the Amanda Knox/Raffaele Sollecito case

Has anyone ever seen a case before where the judge brags about how the jurors were getting their information about the case from TV?

He bragged about it?

I really would like to see the quote in Italian. Thanks in advance.

Yes, it appears that he did in the context of trying to make himself looking like a hero for explaining everything to them.

I'm happy to provide the quotation for you. Check here: www.google.com

You are not allowed to read articles related to the case or the parties involved. You are further barred from even discussing the case with other jurors until the trial is over. You're also not allowed to do your own independent research and are bound by the record at trial. Jurors are further pre-screened for bias, something that apparently is not done at all in Italy.

Um...let's see: "You are not allowed " but well, you certainy can because you are not sequestered.

"Jurors are further pre-screened for bias, something that apparently is not done at all in Italy."

I didn't know that.

Could you please cite a source for that claim?

Thanks.

So practically speaking: no one can stop them from watching the news... but if they do, they must keep quiet about it.

Well, that's reassuring.

I am trying to find the exact quote (in Italian) where Nencini mentions the jurors + TV. If anyone has it, could you please post a link? Thanks.

They actually insert a chip in their brains and monitor what they watch and read and with whom they discuss what.

The judge instructs them not to do certain things and my experience is that the jurors follow those orders. When a juror goes to lunch they wear a "juror" badge and they will not discuss the case with people they meet.

In addition to getting caught by saying something not available in court they can also be caught by someone they are with outside the court reporting them.

It sure is more reassuring than a system that has cases lasting months with no restrictions.

Um...let's see: "You are not allowed " but well, you certainy can because you are not sequestered.

I think this actually works in most cases, and even when it doesn't, it looks a hell of a lot better than having some judge give an interview about how his clueless jurors were getting their information from Jerry Springer.

insults against me, saying I lied about things where I am obviously saying the truth...

Here's something you lied about. You said "I am the person who backs up most precisely everything I say."

Where's the evidence that Hellman was paid off by money from American media figures?

Where's your evidence that Frank Sfarzo was paid by the Knoxes?

As you have provided no evidence of either of these assertions, I have now proved that you lied about always backing up your assertions with evidence.

You are now a proven liar and everything you say in the future should be viewed with that in mind.

Not as "reassuring" as the Italian system. How do they do it in your country?

It's in this thread somewhere. Just do a search for Nencini.

I'm looking forward to seeing the original quote in Italian .Thanks in advance.

Of all of their tall stories, the "bathroom Boogie" (as she recounts at trial) was particularly lame.

Why was it lame? Why do you think she made up the story about using the bathmat to move the 5 feet to her room?

She never recounted anything in court about a "bathroom boogie". Can you provide a cite for the "bathroom boogie" in court? Thanks in advance.

I am casting my mind back to the beginning of the first thread and remembering loads of remarks from the guilters that used to populate this thread (before they scuttled off to their echo chamber) about "not spoonfeeding" people.

Do your own homework.

Of all of their tall stories, the "bathroom Boogie" (as she recounts at trial) was particularly lame.

Maybe you would think the circumstances were less lame if detractors hadn't prejudiced you with the parodic term "bathmat boogie." Same goes for "knifeboy."

Do your own homework.

I have done my homework. I have searched for the quote. The original article that I find, has no mention of it. Not even Andrea Vogt in her translation (thefreelancedesk) makes no mention.

If it turns up. Let me know.

She never recounted anything in court about a "bathroom boogie".

She talks about her hopping along with the bathmat down the hall under questioning by Mignini. It is in the trial transcripts.

I guess I could tell you to "do your own homework" but since the quote actually exists... I will search for it and post it here this weekend.

Well if it turns out a juror was doing their own independent research, reading the newspaper articles on the case, talking to other jurors beforehand, etc, it will result in a mistrial.

"Jurors are further pre-screened for bias, something that apparently is not done at all in Italy."

It's called voir dire.

If this is a sign of how willing you are to do research, that may explain the depth of your knowledge about the case.

4th paragraph down.

And how do they do it in your country, Vibio?

I don't speak Italian but this took about 5 seconds:

Nencini: "I giurati tornavano a casa e venivano bombardati da informazioni. E quando ci vedevamo, volevano sapere: "presidente, ma in tivù dicevano in un altro modo. Come è andata veramente?" Allora la mia logica è stata: prendiamoci il tempo che serve, dobbiamo uscire con la coscienza pulita. Così è stato".
