I don't understand. Isn't he the lawyer for the Kercher family? Does not the Kercher family include Stephanie?

I presume Maresca represents the people who appointed him to be their legal representative. He will have an agreement signed by one or more people. Even if it is phrased that he represents the "Kercher family", in actuality he would legally represent the specific individual(s) who signed the contract.

Imagine, for example, that members of the Kercher family have different views of the case and want it pursued in different ways. One may want closure, one may want vengence, one may want money, one may believe that the defendants are innocent. Maresca would really represent only the individual(s) who appointed him and should take direction only from that person(s).

It is possible that John Kercher appointed Maresca, signed the letter, and is the client. If that is the case, only John Kercher is responsible for fees enumerated in the letter of appointment.

From the closing arguments document...It seems to me just more people to argue for guilt.....

A source that was there also said DV asked the court why convict two innocent people to protect institutions, and asked what are we doing here? I am told there was complete silence in the court at that one. He also covered yet again, Rudy's history of break ins.

Yet it is ironic. Had the SC wanted to protect the Italian legal system, you'd think it would have signed off on Hellman.

Instead, they opted to draw MORE attention to the forensic videos, to C&V's critique of the DNA evidence, to weird occurrences like the bra clasp being stored in a manner that ruled out further tests.

OR they did not know about those things. OR... well, I have a complicated theory.

But SURELY it is known that an attempt to extradite Knox will result in MUCH scrutiny of the way the case was handled. And I don't mean by JREF, Coulson.

O.K. The document that RoseMontague provided shows that there are three Italian attorneys representing different members of the Kercher family.
  • Stephanie has her own attorney, S. Perna, and is not represented by Maresca.
  • Both of the victim's parents and her two brothers are represented by Maresca.
  • In addition to being represented by Maresca, Lyle has a second attorney - Fabiani.

It is interesting Stephanie split off from Maresca -- and is the only family member to have done so. Hmm...

I vote "or they did not know these things".
They seemed to have a very low level of knowledge on the case, as if they hadnt read anything other than a brief overview, or they're too busy.

It isnt like these people are going to spend 2 yrs studying just this one case, so it's probably common they dont even get the names right and arent aware of a ocean of details.

Finally a lawyer with some courage to call it for what it is. Rudy's history is a very good point to bring up at the end.

And finally about Knox:
"Guilty or innocent, she should be certain that her family is the first to believe her, then we Kerchers and only then everyone else … yet in these years I have often seen in newspapers and on TV, that it is as if (the rest of) the world counted more for her then we do."

Stephanie, the rest of the world is ready to listen. When you are ready you will be counted too.

Well, I am crap at this form of Kremlin-watching, especially through a glass darkly as here, so maybe your impression is the one to go with! :)

That's the perfect analogy. What would Brezhnev do? Would he own up to a mistake made within his system, or would he blame the American?

Some more names that were involved in the activities at the cottage on December 18:
Monica Napoleoni
Professor Dr F. Vinci - Technical consultant to Sollecito
Francesco Camana - blood splatter analysis
Stefano Buratti - always outside the house
SBARDELLA PIERO - Assistent to Stefanoni, collect biological samples
POLITI ROBERTO - Luminol tests
CODISPOTI GIUSEPPE
GIOBBI EDGARDO

Some people entered at different times or perhaps not at all.

I believe I located the perps:

In all seriousness, I though that I spotted someone who looked like the skinny guy when I was looking at images of the cops that were there on the 18th. I will go back and check.

BTW: The reason given for going back in is that they thought that they were going to find the attacker's DNA on the edges of the wall bloodstain. I didn't know that.

Kremlin watching, eh?

I worked in China in the 1980's. In 1984 the Deputy Chief of the Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) was to go on a state visit to Japan but the trip was suddenly cancelled by China. For three days Japanese, British, and US Embassy diplomats were in a tizzy comparing rumors and sending reports that the Deputy Chief of the PLA may have died and that there was probably a power struggle occurring at the top of the Chinese leadership. My wife, a US diplomat, was caught up in it. At her request, at 10 pm on a Sunday night we got on our bicycles and rode through Tien An Men Square past the Great Hall of the People. The Great Hall of the People was brightly lit and row upon row of "Black Flag" limousines with Red Army license plates were lined up. My wife went into the US Embassy at midnight to send a flash cable back to Washington reporting that the army is meeting in the Great Hall of the People, causing more worry about a power struggle within the PLA leadership and what it might mean for US - China relations.

The next day I had lunch with an American friend whose wife is Chinese. Her father was a Chinese general. I told her about the rumor that the Deputy Chief of the PLA may have died. She excused herself and wandered off for a few minutes. I thought she had gone to the ladies room. In fact, she went to make a phone call. She had gone to high school with the general's granddaughter who told her that her grandfather was fine - he had not died. I broke the news to my wife who then had to tell Washington as well as Japanese and British diplomats that the Deputy Chief of the PLA was fine after all.

Let's hope we get good news from the Nencini court.

LOL - great story. The Chinese are said to have a great sense of humour. Arranging these shenanigans just for the heck of it might have appealed to them.

I think John Kercher may have a pimple on his ass that has separate representation. Not sure.
