Something fishy here

This just keeps happening gets to 820 and resets to 875. Not sure if this is real or what.

Is this what a dogs breakfast looks like?

If the data here is right it looks like it's starting to stable out now. People are buying at Bitstamp and BTC-e but it looks like a panic might have broken out at MtGox.

Either there is a lag in their updating system, which isn't good at all, or there is someone there actively buying bitcoins to keep the prices up. It may even be MtGox themselves.

The Chinese exchange is now back over $900/coin, that may increase as the market comes online for the day.

Ignoring the strange goings on at MtGox it looks like bitcoin may have rallied at the other exchanges since they're now on the rise.

I had that same sawtooth pattern, but after I deleted my cookies and refreshed the page it disappeared:

Perhaps a bug in the website?

ETA: The "lag" indicator at the bottom of my page currently says 48:42.696. Blimey.

ETAA: And now I see the sawtooth pattern returning. I don't think that website is particularly useful at this point in time.

I've moved over to this one, which seems to at least be more current.

Cheers. However, for reasons I don't understand the chart on that one is actually even further behind for me than bitcoin.clarkmoody.com (the sawtooth pattern is just starting to emerge now)!

:confused:

ETA: Lag on clarkmoody has now gone up to 1:09:13.183.

I should've clarified: I stopped watching MtGox on any service because clearly their setup is screwed up at the moment. The new page allows me to switch between Bitstamp and BTC-e (other exchanges) and those appear to be updating in real time.

I think whatever is going on at MtGox is causing the price to remain low because it's creating a lot of uncertainty. If you look at the "live" price graph on their website you'll see that it seems to be off by an hour or so (if the times are correct they're in Greenland or some other place in the middle of the Atlantic).

The Bitstamp price seems to be dropping again.

Wasn't someone here saying that the volatility of bitcoin was a feature and not a problem?

Ah, gotcha. Yes, there is apparently something very wrong with the data from MtGox at the moment.

Everyone hates them and they are in Japan.

It's at 830 now. Not much volume there.

That and something about dog's breakfast, I think it was that the volatility is a dog's breakfast.:eye-poppi

@MtGox What in the hell is happening with you right now. This seems like a Bitcoin price manipulation!! LAG, ROLL and inhability to TRADE!!

@mtgox is trolling us!!!
Look 875 -850 -830 -825
then again 875-850 -825
and repeat!
@MagicalTux

(I'm guessing this is referring to the "sawtooth" we saw.)

Supposed to be fixed now but there is a huge backlog of trades to process. Lot's of selling still.
