OK, so the original sound file gets changed, both the computer file itself, and, of course, how it sounds when its played.

Now, on your computer, is the sound file itself changed, or is it just how it sounds when its played back on your computer that is changed?

ETA: or maybe you don't know if the sound file itself has changed, you just play it and hear the changes.

The sound file itself changed on both laptops, mine, and the laptop in Nottingham belonging to Mr Roberts.

Are you suggesting that for example you and all other participants PM what they hear to Pixel42 (for example)? When she has all the returns, Pixel posts them for all to see?

Sounds good to me

No, I suggest that the participants write here in a post. Hopefully the post should be "I have created a recording. On play-back, there are no background sounds, no added noises whatsoever.."

Could someone please explain, specifically, the mechanism by which the "silent" digital recordings will be determined to have officially been transformed in this "test".

Yay, so all of the participants create a silent audio file. Then what?

He's talking about after you''ve played the recording and the participants listen again. Someone has to collect the reports of what each of the three of you think you hear independently.

And it sounds like your chosen method of making the recordings is almost certainly going to produce artefacts, so there will be noises before the file is altered and those will also have to be independently noted.

I gave a step by step protocol on the previous page, please read it and let us know if you agree with it.

Oh, one other question, was the way you determined that the sound files changed by listening to them?

My protocol gives two possible criteria. Flaccon has not yet clarified whether she expects the hash to change.

Do all the participants have to have their own individual copies of Youcam? I got the impression that floccan sent a file to scrappy - he did not generate it himself.

Could floccan make a file for each participant and email it to them?

Could floccan make e.g. 10 files and send them to the invigilator who would randomly send a file to each participant?
