Biblical Flood? Fish, squid, and shrimp fossils in the mountains of Lebanon and Peru

So what do you call the fallacy where your judgement of information is not based on the accuracy of the information presented but strictly on your opinion of the source where the information came from?

It depends on the nature of that opinion.

And in related news some scientists believe Jonah's and the whale's earliest ancestor was the same one celled creature, who ultimately caused Jonah and the whale by unintelligent forces.

I'm sure that you think yourself to be doing something here other than displaying an abject lack of understanding of the difference between cause and effect.

As usual, you're wrong.

Biblical literalism.

Let's do some 'rithmetic. It's fun, and it might help you with your sense of perspective.

Age of Earth ≈ 4.5 billion years

Written out in long form, that looks like this:

4,500,000,000

Time since alleged Noachian flood ≈ 6 thousand years

ie.

6,000

So.png

The relationship between the time that's passed since the alleged flood and the age of the Earth can be expressed as:

6000/4500000000

or

1/750000

If you're anything like me, you'll be all, like "and?" by this stage. It's all just boring old numbers.

Pictures tell the story so much better.

So let's have one . . .

The rectangle below contains 750,000 pixels. The one in the very top left-hand corner is bright red and represents the time which has passed since the alleged flood. (You'll probably need to zoom in a bit to see it, depending on your monitor.) The dark green represents the entirety of the Earth's history.

I ask nothing more of you, DOC, than that you contemplate this.

Are you saying that Pangea was still one land mass 6000 years ago? And everything moved to where it is since then?

It's a possibility since it would seem the entire earth being under water 150 days and "fountains of the deep" (mentioned in Genesis) shooting out water, could have loosened things up quite a bit for a subsequent sudden shift of land masses.

I'm both fascinated and terrified to think that an allegedly educated person from a first world country in the 21st century believes this to be a scientifically valid proposition.

And in related news some scientists believe Jonah's and the whale's earliest ancestor was the same one celled creature, who ultimately caused Jonah and the whale by unintelligent forces.

Why aren't there any whale fossils in amongst the fish, squid and shrimp fossils in the mountains of Lebanon and Peru?

There is no fallacy involved in pointing out that a source that claims, evidently seriously, that "...E-MC2 is liberal claptrap..." is, at best, an untrustworthy source.
Not really? Sounds like the Soviet and Chinese scientists who had to tailor their experiments and results to fit orthodox Marxism/Leninism.

How can an equation be liberal or conservative? That's like saying that it's chocolate.

ETA: OMG, I just looked and it really does say exactly that. doc is keeping great company there.

Simple, Brother!
Jonah was eaten by a pakicetid.
It was either a giant pakicetid or Jonah was a very small man.
Praise the Lord, Brother, praise the Lord!

Pakicetids: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pakicetid
Very cool - thanks for posting this.

In the interest of balance of whackiness, feminist Luce Irigaray has suggested that E=MC2 is a "sexed equation."

...Here's a listing of cities that are older than this flood date
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cities_by_time_of_continuous_habitation...

Here is the second and third sentences of your link:

"The age claims listed are generally disputed and may indeed be obsolete. Differences in opinion can result from different definitions of "city" as well as "continuously inhabited" and historical evidence is often disputed."

____

Also there are differences of opinion between Christians as to the age of the flood. The bible has gaps in genealogy at other places in the bible so there could be gaps in the genealogical record before Noah. Because of those gaps some believe it could have been 10,000 years ago, and some believe much longer.

Which is why I have asked you to explain when, in your opinion, Pangea was last a continent; when, in your opinion, the "global flood" took place; and when, in your opinion, the civilizations of Eastern Asia, Mesopotamia, Egypt, and MesoAmerica (to name but a few) arose.

For that matter, when, in your opinion was either one of the contradictory creations myths supposed to have taken place?

Mere quibbling.

Well, naturally. When you make it up as you go along the dates will be "mushy" at best.
