The bible talks of a worldwide flood. Could marine fossils found 700 meters above sea level be evidence of that?

From the article: Catching a mermaid in Jbeil
By Lara Khouzami

"Lebanon's three main fish fossil sites, Hgula, Haqil (both in the mountains above Jbeil) and An Nammura are the only ones in the Middle East,"

From Brazil Weird News:

The location of the {shrimp fossil} appears strange for a marine animal ... 700 meters above sea level. But it is not a suprise for the scientists. In the same region were also found fossilized remains of a squid that belongs to the same period.

Ever heard of geology??
. They run courses at your local college

How do you get fossils on mountains from a 40 day flood that then recedes? Even if you have a heap of dead fishies for some reason, you then have the problem of getting them fossilized in that environment.

Can we use that dodge about "every day is like a thousand years?"

There is a large quantity of evidence plate techtonics exists.

There is no quantity of evidence that your biblical account of a worldwide flood happened.

Let's not even bother addressing the hilarious improbablility of the contents of one ark and whether or not it could repopulate the entire world. I doubt even you would think that an actual possibility.

If that's so, here's evidence that the top of the Himalayas was covered by the flood long enough to allow coral reefs to form! http://www.palmbeads.com.au/blogs/our-blog. Or it might be that, as proposed by modern geology, these mountains were created when India collided with mainland Asia, pushing the intervening sea bed thousands of metres upwards. Plate tectonics again.

No.

Read up on plate tectonics and some basic geology.

Yes, the mountains were once under water. However, they were not mountains at the time.

There isn't enough moisture on Earth to flood the entire planet to the tops of the highest mountains.

There was a great war in the sea and the losers fled to the mountains to survive thus the fossils.

The story was serialized in the Squid Fishing Monthly (telepathic edition).

I agree.

Fossilized remains of things that ought to be on the bottom of the ocean, but found at high altitude points toward that high altitude having once actually been the bottom of the Ocean.

The country I live in is "living proof" of this. The entire country of New Zealand was once on the ocean floor, and in fact, its current land area represents the 7% of the continent of "Zealandia", that protrudes above the Ocean.

Such fossilized remains of sea creatures have, for many years, been found at altitudes up to several thousand feet all up and down the length of this country.

There is no quantity of evidence that your biblical account of a worldwide flood happened.
Well, that depends on how you define "worldwide".

In our time, "worldwide" means over the entire globe, but in the time in which The Flood is claimed to have taken place, "worldwide" was a much smaller place.

There is plenty of geological evidence that massive floods which devastate enormous areas have taken place in the past.

That some kind of flood took place the region we now call the Middle East is a distinct probability; the Black Sea deluge is one hypothesis, although its not universally accepted.

At that time, with communications and transport being as slow and primitive as it was, such a major catastrophe certainly might have appeared to encompass "their" entire world.

Such a flood is mentioned not only in the OT (Hebrew) but in the Quran (Islam), the Satapatha Brahmana (Hindu) and the ancient writings of Phonecians, the Babylonians, the Sumerians (especially, "The Epic of Gilgamesh") and the Assyrians. The accounts bear striking similarities.

Of course, I acknowledge that this could simply be evidence of a shared mythology rather than an indication of an actual event.

Let's not even bother addressing the hilarious improbablility of the contents of one ark and whether or not it could repopulate the entire world. I doubt even you would think that an actual possibility.
The story of Noah's Ark is likely to have been added "after the fact" i.e. people and animals patently survived this flood, and this would be one explanation that the biblical scribes made up to fit the facts as they saw them. It could even have been based on some actual accounts (or a conflation of several accounts) of people who were able to save their families and a few farm animals by getting onto a boat and riding out the flood; those few accounts exaggerated into the "Noah" fable at a later date.

This is of course pure speculation on my part, but it seems logical that people would use boats to survive flooding, they do so even today.

This idea was considered hopelessly backwards by Creationists 300 years ago.

Is there a children's section, or a "not-funny" section in humor, to which this silliness might be moved?

If Noah ended his journey in eastern Anatolia, why are there exactly zero wild marsupials in the area or even historic evidence of them, while they are found in abundance on the Australian continent? The global distribution of animal species we observe contradicts notions of a geologically recent global flood but is wonderfully explained by evolution. One of several complete showstoppers for the idea of a global flood.

Another flood thread? Run for the hills!!!

DOC, I am roughly 400 m above sea level here. Roughly an hour's drive from here, same elevation - I once found a fossilized fish. On the hills around here, there are limestone outcroppings that are full of ammonites. Why whould that be, DOC?

Of course, I acknowledge that this could simply be evidence of a shared mythology rather than an indication of an actual event.

Early agricultural civilizations nearly always settled in flood plains. No wonder that floods play a role in mythology, it doesn't even have to be shared.
