Explosion at the Boston Marathon.

I did want it to be a right wing extremist group, not because I want to blame all right-wingers, but so they would be forced to reflect on their generalizations about Islam.

I won't lie... I have to fight off generalizations about Islam.... and I'm actively aware of it.

And Simon made the case that I was wrong... so far.

Unless we learn there was some influence or radicalization, this looks like domestic by disgruntled long time immigrants.

We'll see.
There are some arguments pro Islam after all in the case of the brother Tamerlan. Still rather inconclusive.

Suspect cuffed, lying on ground and possible dead mans switch and device. And get this, not the original suspect, this is someone else.

WTH?

As has been posted, keep in mind the OP again:

For this poll, domestic vs foreign is decided by the motive, not whether it was a citizen or a foreigner. So if the bomber's gripe is taxes or gun laws or something similar, that would be domestic. If the motive is some Middle East cause, that would be foreign.

Still seems rather undecided.

And as I pointed out, there is the chance that the motives weren't about any cause at all, so it might not be domestic or foreign terrorism. Could be more like the Columbine massacre. Since no one claimed credit, I don't see how it could have been a political or religious statement. (If a tree falls in the forest and no one reads its manifesto, was it a terrorist. . . .or something like that.)

Oh hey, didn't see this. And I haven't read that thread either, just looked at the poll results. Which ~5 hours ago (or whenever that was) showed few domestic and the rest split just slightly more foreign than "don't know".

I agree. We know all but nothing about motive at this point.

Some fool woman was espousing how they spent all their time at or near MIT or home. She couldn't understand how they could have been radicalized.

Ummm... Internet?

And I said hours ago (~3?), T1 may have influenced his little bro. I'm seeing that in quite a few psych segments the past hour or so.

Anyway, we'll see.

What the hell?

CNN just put up the Grey Honda BOLO... "may be in Conn". And switched it right away to "found in Mass, Located in Boston."

Idiots.

Who are the idiots? It was the police who announced that the car was heading in that direction, CNN didn't make that up.

Wondering why Chechens would want to bomb America, I found this article, which ended with:
Odd or not, the Boston bombings play perfectly into the Kremlin's hands, ahead of Russia's 2014 Winter Olympics, to be hosted in Sochi, not far from where the current insurgency is raging. It reinforces Putin's claim – first made in 1999 – that his violent methods are justified to quell a ruthless rebellion by terrorists prepared to take innocent lives.

Hmmm.....

There has been speculation that a 3 person is involved.

All these sirens in the distance outside my apartment are just....surreal. I don't like it one bit.

You're assuming they were "radicalized". I've seen no evidence that they did this for a cause yet.

ETA: As I said earlier, for all we know it could have been whatever the 21st Century version of trying to impress Jodi Foster is.

No CNN... they had the BOLO text on the chyron for just about long enough to read it before changing it to the "nevermind, been found in Boston" text.

Screw up in the control room.
