WTC7 - The fires failed Girder 44-79

Wrong, BasqueArch stated why the FEA was wrong in the OP:
Has he provided any links or pictures to Tony’s FEA that support his claim? Has he done an analysis on his own that proves the girder was indeed pushed over 6.5”? Can you do an analysis to support the 6.5” claim?

That the girder failed due to fire is the only conclusion supported by physical evidence…
Is there a picture of this particular failed girder somewhere?

Why did you post a quote concerning the failure of the connection?

I asked you, Once the bolts shear there is no vertical support. Think, what is now providing this support.
The seat, it requires further heating of the girder and beams to push it off the seat and thereby loss of vertical support.

Why are you posting a NIST quote? I asked you, not NIST.
I prefer to quote from a source respected by debunkers and not my opinion, when I can.

It doesn't really matter.

The failure of the connection (at Column 79) was governed by bolt shear followed by walk-off before loss in vertical support (page 482 NIST NCSTAR 1-9)

Once the bolts shear there is no vertical support.

Do you agree?

I do not agree.

…the failure of the connection was governed by tension failure of the top clip angle or bolt shear followed by beam walking-off the seat and loss of vertical support…The failure of the connection was governed by bolt shear followed by walk-off before loss in vertical support. (NIST NCSTAR 1-9 page 482)
.

enik: Why did you post this quote in response to my question? Did you not understand my question or do you see something in this quote that you believe addresses my question?

This has nothing to do with my question. It's becoming clear you don't understand what NIST is actually saying (or what I asked you).

Hint: You're cherry picking a quote that does not address what I actually asked and only addresses one aspect of what they said.

Maybe if your question was presented clearly you would be less upset by the reply?

The NIST on the other hand were quite clear.

The unsupported girder and other local fire-induced damage caused Floor 13 to collapse, beginning a cascade of floor failures down to the 5th floor…"

But no one seems to want to acknowledge the biggest problem with the NIST hypothesis. There could not have been enough expansion to walk the girder off its support.

The steel temperature required to attain the necessary expansion of 6.25 inches has to be around 736C.

But, at that temperature, the NIST has already claimed the steel girders would lose significant strength and be sagging. Therefore, no longer pushing.

The NIST have not explained that contradiction, nor have they explained why they ignored stiffeners which are clearly marked in shop drawings and would have required the girder to have been pushed even further before failure.

I do not need to do an analysis. Neither you nor Tony validated the assumptions that went into your model. As I said before, you always win the game when you make the rules up for yourself.

The evidence is in the building collapse and fire. There is no evidence of any other mechanism being responsible for the collapse of the building other than the fire. An analysis of the collapse points to the beams-girder-column 79 as the mechanism.
Even if the analysis were proven to be an inch short of collapse, at one particular junction, the variability of the rest of the structure could still result in an error stack of 1" and result in failure.

In any case, the burden of proof that building could not collapse due to the fire is on anyone questioning the visible, auditory and physical record that only shows fire (plus some physical and seismic damage from the WTC1 and 2 collapse) as being actors in the collapse initiation. Where are your silent and invisible bombs?

This is a really simple question.

In a bolted beam to column connection (Like in WTC7), if the bolts are sheared, is the lateral support for the column lost?

What makes you think I'm upset? I asked.

Did I ask NIST or do I think he's NIST?

Really? Tell us how this answered the question I asked?

Did I mention I asked him not NIST?

Why is it that troofers invariably quote the NCSTAR 1A report......a condensed 88 page summary over 730 page 2 volume report?

Page 558 NCSTAR Vol 1-9 Vol 2

"Since vertical failure of the seat was not considered (Section 11.2.5) the connections at Columns 79 and 81 were both modeled as stiffened seats."

This little tidbit of information is always "overlooked" by troofers in search of some sort of NIST gaming the analysis.

And why do you and the rest of the cabal ignore the primary issue (heat related steel expansion) and focus on a secondary issue?

More evidence that you really don't care about the truth.

But none of you want to acknowledge the primary problem with the NIST hypothesis. There could not have been enough beam expansion to walk the girder off its support.

The NIST waited until four years after publishing their final report on WTC7, to issue critical data corrections which revealed a fatal flaw in their hypothesis for collapse initiation.

In their 2008 WTC7 Final Report, the NIST claimed the girder seat at column 79 was only 11 inches, and they estimated a fire-induced 600C steel temperature would result in the necessary 5.5 inch expansion to create girder walk off.

Amazingly, considering this walk off was at the crux of their collapse initiation hypothesis, the NIST somehow did not proofread and correct this major data error.

Not until 4 years later, in 2012, did the NIST make public a correction and finally acknowledge a "typo". The girder had to be pushed off a 12 inch seat and not the 11 inch seat their calculations were based on. In an obvious attempt to 'save' their hypothesis, the NIST also claimed a "transposition error" occurred regarding how much the 'pushing' beams expanded. Instead of the original 5.5 inches, the NIST now claimed it should have been 6.25 inches.

Big problem.

The steel temperature required to attain the necessary expansion of 6.25 inches has to be around 736C.

But, at that temperature, the NIST has already claimed the steel beams would lose significant strength and be sagging. Therefore, no longer pushing.

The NIST have never explained this fatal-to-their-hypothesis contradiction.

Spot on.

The topic here is "WTC7 - The fires failed Girder 44-79"

Even those trying to shift either the topic OR the object of discussion won't deny that WTC7 collapsed. (Well they haven't done so far but with T Sz, enik, MM who knows how far they will go. At this stage they have enough "debunkers" agreeing with them on the approach to logic from the wrong end of the topic or way off the topic. :( )

So the issue in this thread is the true dichotomy that collapse of WTC7 fell either as a result of fire or as a result of some combination of fire and CD. Read the OP everyone.

Sure BasqueArch included a reference to "Tony Sz was wrong" and even he probably missed the fact that whether or not Tony was wrong is irrelevant to the main theme of the OP. Tony's FEA is irrelevant. Enik's was better than Tony's but still irrelevant and NIST findings are also irrelevant. There was no CD therefore WTC 7 fell as the result of fire. And the girder was part of WTC7 so it also fell as result of fire. Very simple stuff.

So if "they" want to disagree with the OP of this thread they must prove CD. And it would be better if debunkers stopped going along in support of enik and MM's current tactics of going into details which are off topic. Stock standard truther/trolling evasion by derail tactics and folk are helping them do it.

Sure some folks want to discuss details. But the errors of Tony's finding were done to death in the earlier thread. He was wrong at the detail level as shown by several members AND his case was not proven in the bigger picture because he did not properly support his assumptions as shown repeatedly in full detailed explanations by me and LSSBB.

There is not now and never had been a viable prima facie hypothesis for CD.

So WTC7 fell as a result of fire. AND the subject girder is part of the WTC7 which collapsed. So the girder failed as a result of fires.

That much is simple and self evident. And that much is on the topic. Whether or not NIST was right is not this topic.

The reasons that people are discussion the details of why and how the girder failed is that truthers and or trolls pretending to be truthers - Szamboti, Enik, MM - have to rely on arse about logic in a futile attempt to pretend proof of CD. OR to derail into discussion of "NIST was wrong". NIST is irrelevant - NIST is not even mentioned in the OP. NIST is not needed to resolve "CD or not?" on 9/11 NIST was not involved on 9/11. Their report was years later and whether or not their report was correct it cannot change the facts of 9/11 history.

WTC7 fell as the result of fires without help of CD. The girder was part of WTC7 so it failed in the collapse. What part it played in the collapse is not the topic of this thread NOR does it change the "No CD" status.

Evidence that you do are not concerned about reality. Keep quoting a reader;s digest version of the report. It just make you look more foolish.

And that is the elephant in the room.

They don't realize that disproving NIST just won't cut it. NIST showed a probable (plausible) cause. Even if NIST made mistakes in their assumptions, proving them wrong does not in any way prove that a building can not collapse due to fire. Several documented cases show they can. Even WTC5 shows they can. The only way for truthers to start having a case is to show a complete alternative collapse hypothesis that fits all the evidence.

MM even went as far as saying,
If the floor beams were unable to push the girder off its seat, the whole NIST hypothesis collapses and WTC7 collapsed from a totally different cause.
Which is only possibly right (probable or not, is a different thing). However, a totally different cause still includes collapse by fire, even if not caused by that specific girder pushed off its seat by the beams in the way NIST stated.

Tony has said things along the same line.

ETA: IIRC Tony even said that a collapse by fire was impossible in WTC7.

ETA2: More exactly he said:
The chances of the actual collapses being anything other than deceptively done controlled demolitions is zero.

I asked you, Once the bolts shear there is no vertical support. Think, what is now providing this support.

This is a really simple question.

In a bolted beam to column connection (Like in WTC7), if the bolts are sheared, is the lateral support for the column lost?
Are these three the same question? I thought you were referring to vertical support of the Girder (W33x130) in the first two, but now it looks like you are asking something different in the third question. Are you now referring to the 9 stories where there isn’t anything attached to Column 79 (i.e. MHM’s proposed analysis)?

I do not need to do an analysis. Neither you nor Tony validated the assumptions that went into your model. As I said before, you always win the game when you make the rules up for yourself.
Here is a very simple analysis Can you figure out the distance traveled by the W33x130 girder at Column 79?

The evidence is in the building collapse and fire. There is no evidence of any other mechanism being responsible for the collapse of the building other than the fire. An analysis of the collapse points to the beams-girder-column 79 as the mechanism.
What is it you do for a living if I might ask?

I think troofers read way to much into the "walk off" based on the readers digest version (don't think they are capable of understanding the in depth version) Yes, the floor displaced the girder.......but whether they displaced it 4 inches or 10 inches, it really doesn't matter, there is the possibility of the seat failure, the girder twisting and placing a point load on its bottom flange, column movement to the east, creep, girder buckling, etc that all could have contributed to the girder "walking off" it seat.

Extraordinary.

Extraordinary.
How so? All I've ever seen you do is try to prove NIST wrong on some detail.

Could you link to your study that actually shows a means other than what has been accepted (by most everyone)?

Your turn.
