Here are just a few of the many available references to Eternal Law:

“For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5). Through Him mercy can be fully extended to each of us without offending the eternal law of justice...And by eternal law, mercy cannot be extended save there be one who is both willing and able to assume our debt and pay the price and arrange the terms for our redemption." http://www.lds.org/liahona/2011/04/the-mediator-jesus-christ?lang=eng&query="eternal+law"

"Every incorrect choice we make, every sin we commit is a violation of eternal law... We can do nothing of ourselves to satisfy the demands of justice for a broken eternal law." http://www.lds.org/new-era/2010/03/finding-forgiveness?lang=eng&query="eternal+law"

"The source and cause of true happiness are gospel truth and obedience to eternal law." http://www.lds.org/friend/2011/03/how-can-the-gospel-help-me-be-happy?lang=eng&query="eternal+law"

"Revelation from God is always compatible with His eternal law" http://www.lds.org/general-conference/2009/10/ask-seek-knock?lang=eng&query="eternal+law"

"Before the Crucifixion and afterward, many men have willingly given their lives in selfless acts of heroism. But none faced what Christ endured. Upon Him was the burden of all human transgression, all human guilt. And hanging in the balance was the Atonement. Through His willing act, mercy and justice could be reconciled, eternal law sustained, and that mediation achieved without which mortal man could not be redeemed." http://www.lds.org/ensign/2008/03/who-is-jesus-christ?lang=eng&query="eternal+law"

Given an iron-clad guaranteed super-simple way to tell when Satan is the messenger, when faced with what may have been the most important spiritual message in her entire life, Janadele accepts heartburn as a substitute for absolute proof.

So, who enforces this Eternal Law, making sure God does not break it? What are the penalties if he does? Is it the Internet Eternal Police?

Further clarification to questions on Eternal Law:

"If, on the other hand, we begin with the premise that mortal life arose according to a plan and will develop according to eternal law, we will understand the bits and pieces of information in a different way. We will see the interconnectedness and wholeness of life. We will see patterns and purpose where others see disorder and chance." http://www.lds.org/ensign/2007/06/the-quest-for-spiritual-knowledge?lang=eng&query="eternal+law"
"Help from the Lord always follows eternal law." http://www.lds.org/new-era/2002/04/to-be-healed?lang=eng&query="eternal+law"
"That is the justice of God, and mercy cannot rob justice. If an eternal law is broken, the punishment affixed to that law must be suffered. Some of this can be satisfied by the Savior’s Atonement, but the merciful cleansing of a soiled sinner comes only after repentance ( Alma 42:22–25), which for some sins is a prolonged and painful process. Otherwise, “he that exercises no faith unto repentance is exposed to the whole law of the demands of justice; therefore only unto him that has faith unto repentance is brought about the great and eternal plan of redemption” (Alma 34:16).

Janadele, Janadele, Janadele. Those links aren't to scripture. Those are just the opinions of some guys. Don't you have an opinion of your own that you can defend on your own? Or does it get back to that bit about women not being all that significant, so they can't have opinions of their own?

I note you missed my question, Janadele. Have a moment to field it?

I have a side question for Janadele. Janadele, one of the important commandments is "Thou shalt not bear false witness against your neighbor." Do you believe this is important? As a followup question, do you believe it is acceptable to bear false witness against your neighbor for the purposes of facilitating proselytization?

Thanks ahead of time!

None of the replies you've posted regarding eternal law really explains what it actually is, Janadele. All I've seen is the result of some searches for "eternal+law", as your urls make clear.

What I was trying to find out was the precepts of this Eternal Law. For example, if you wanted to know what the criminal law is in England & Wales, I can point to a government website or a large set of books which has lots of laws setting out clearly what is an offence, and the punishments for those who commit offences.

Where can I find a similar explanation of what is an offence against "Eternal Law"? Are the precepts written down anywhere? This is what I'm asking you.

Reading the links and attempting to understand the message would be a start Agatha. To become familiar with the concept of Eternal Law and to gain the necessary insight, requires the genuine enquirer to advance in understanding and knowledge, from appropriate sources, line upon line, precept upon precept.

Another question occurs to me. If there's an eternal law, and your god is bound to adhere to that eternal law, than that suggests there's an authority higher than your god.

No, it would not.

Your links are to abject nonsense. The only message they carry is that LDS doctrine is true because the LDS says it's true.

Attempting to understand the value of thinking for yourself would be a start, Janadele.

I think we can cobble together some of the Eternal Laws from Janadele's posts.

1) Never question anything self-appointed superiors tell you.
2) It is totally okay to tell a 14 year old girl that her family will be ensured a place in heaven if she just has sex with you.
3) When trapped between a rock and a hard space, just pretend you know what ancient scrolls say because by the time anyone can do a real translation, you will be long gone.
4) Keep those dark skinned people down till you need them to fill out your dwindling ranks.
5) Keep adjusting your scam until it has the desired effect; fake it til you make it.
6) All Eternal Laws are subject to change at any moment, as needed.

Just a partial list, but all other laws are variations on a theme.

See any one of us in a masochistic mood could Google "Eternal Law" if they wanted to read a load of pseudo-philosophical codswallop but instead they seem to want your view on what it is as a starting point for discussion on the issue.

When your faith requires you to believe things that are demonstratively absurd then thinking is the last thing that you want to be doing.

I don't recall much about Eternal Law, but that statement addresses what I've suspected it refers to. The "Gods all the way back" version of theology unique to Mormons.

The very best Mormons can become Gods and Goddesses in the afterlife. But although they are now Gods, our God, Yahweh, is still above them. Just as Yahweh's God is above him. So although Yahweh is a god, he's still bound by the rules that his god imposed, who is subject to the laws his god imposed, ad infinitum.

Here's a link to a BYU page about Law and Eternal Law. I couldn't be arsed to do more than skim it, having long since had my fill of their silliness, but it might clear up a few things that Janadele seems unwilling to address.
