The time will come when the answer to that question will be regretfully received.
Exactly. It will be the day you realize how duped you were. Probably the day some Moonies show up at your door and you get a burning in your loins.

Living Prophets speak of today, excerpts from Stake Conference General Session Talk 3 February 2013:
"Brothers and sisters, the test has come. It is now upon us... “we are in the count down.” You and I were held back for this special time to prepare the earth for the return of the Saviour... The Scriptural and modern-day Prophesies we have read and heard all throughout our lives are no longer Prophesies to us – they are now our living reality... If there was ever a time in the history of the world for a people to wake up, pay attention, and get it together – now is that time... President Packer recently said: “I am sorry to tell you that it will not get better...I know of nothing in the history of the Church, or in the history of the world to compare with our present circumstances. Nothing happened in Sodom and Gomorrah which exceeds in wickedness and depravity that which surrounds us now. Words of profanity, vulgarity, and blasphemy are heard everywhere. Unspeakable wickedness and perversion were once hidden in dark places; now they are in the open, and even accorded legal protection. At Sodom and Gomorrah these things were localised. Now, they are spread across the world... " The moral, economic, and political conditions of the world will not, overall, get better... let us not kid ourselves about what is really going on. Any improvement is only temporary, and the conditions we have experienced over the last 5 years will eventually and certainly return, and even get worse... Each of us has our agency and we are free to act for ourselves. We are agents unto ourselves and each of us is free to take what I say as he or she will. You may choose to disagree with me. You may even choose to ignore me, but I have been impressed by the Spirit to say what I must say."
Who ever said that is a self serving jerk.

I'm really puzzled as to why any Mormon takes Smith seriously as a prophet at all after learning the BoA is a fraud.
Do our Mormons really take a 'burning in the bosom' over facts?

Janadele, only a conman would perpetrate a fraud such as is the BoA.
This disgusting hoax is 'important to the Lord'?
No way.

Thanks, Slowvehicle.
That brought me back to the horror of Smith's con game.
Yes, the horror.
What other word to describe the defacement of others' beliefs to push a fraudulent agenda?

Most religious people accept personal experience over facts whether it be a burning in the bosom or awe at a frozen waterfall, from there the trail leads straight into woo.

He's really old so it's just a long winded version of "Well, back in my day the sun was brighter, the birds sang prettier and the young girls liked me."

IOW he was pining for his lost youth.:)

Could we have a link for that, please, Janadele.
I ask because I have trouble believing anyone really thinks gay marriages are a sign of the end times and I'd like to read the entire text for myself.

I would just love to hear him explain WHEN it was "better" and for WHO.

Which is odd to us Jews. I think it was Rav Hillel who said, "If you feel a burning in your bosom, see a frikkin' doctor!"

Since I suspect a link won't be forthcoming, I'll just mention that she quotes this as being from a Stake Conference. That is a gathering of several local wards, so depending on how many Mormons there are in your area, you might have to drive quite a ways to go to one. This might have been from her local Stake Conference, or she might be getting it from some church publication like The Ensign.

However, the relevant quote is from Boyd K Packer. He's the President of the Quorum of the Twelve (advisers under the prophet) and notorious for his anti-gay stance, and his insistence that being gay is not inborn. Why does he believe that? Why because our sweet, loving Heavenly Father wouldn't do such a thing to someone! Lovely chap that he is, he'd destroy the whole world with a flood including innocent children, but wouldn't create someone gay, 'cause that would just be wrong.

You can read the whole quote that Janadele is referring to here. Scroll down to "Morally mixed-up world". (Sorry, don't know how to directly link to relevant section.)

The sentiment goes back a ways:

O tempora o mores is a famous sentence by Cicero in the fourth book of his second oration against Verres (chapter 25) and First Oration against Catiline. It translates as Oh the times! Oh the customs! (Oh what times! Oh what customs!) It is often printed as O tempora! O mores!, with the interposition of exclamation marks (not present in Classical Latin).

In his opening speech against Catiline, Cicero deplores the viciousness and corruption of his age.

It's even older than that. Socrates, a good three or four centuries earlier, also went on about how awful the youth of today were.

They were at it in Biblical Israel, too. I like Ecclesiastes 7:10, where the Teacher says:

Do not say, “Why were the former days better than these?”
For it is not from wisdom that you ask this.
