I have profound doubts about the unsubtle implication that underprivileged people need > $99 shoes to succeed in any fields outside of the fashion industry, but as a skeptic I have to admit that I've nothing but anecdotal data on point.

The last time I looked into it I came up with something that translated (roughly) into Amazon Gardner. We have a character who is a warrior and a nurturer at the same time. Picture Xena in the vegatable patch.

Of course, by focusing strictly on the swallow's performance, you're showing that you care nothing for the swallow itself and view the swallow as just a tool to be measured, used to the maximum extent possible for your own convenience, and then discarded once it's of no further use to you. Well, **** you, you **** specist! If it's not a ******* big-brained mammal, then **** it, right?

ETA: AFAIK, A+ hasn't gone the anti-specist route, so it's probably not a fair comment on them. But it gave me a chance to type **** a lot, and that's very A+.

Three things:

1) She asked her fans for donations explicitly for income replacement, which sort of implies that she intends to spend it on stuff she would usually spend her own income on.
2) She was already known by her fans to have a bit of an extravagant shoe fetish thing going on.
3) This was a controversy manufactured by people who ordinarily claim to despise manufactured controversy within the movement.

Exactly, it's putrid bigotry. That's the whole point of finding offense and accusing your opponent of bigotry is that you can sidestep the argument and now focus on your opponent's character. It's slimy but it can be quite effective. Just have really thin skin and accuse anyone who disagrees with you of abelism, misogyny or bigotry. It's ad hominem but hey, whatever gets the job done, right?

What is it you can't stand - that someone would call you out on your bigotry, or just that someone doesn't want to talk to you anymore when you behave inappropriately toward them?

Yeah, accusing people of misogyny, abelism or bigotry and not addressing the arguments is really poor form. That's the point of this thread isn't it?

I'm not so much concerned about the Ferengi thing in and of itself as, after all, the Jewish connection is debatable (although I do think that I probably fall down on the side of it being racist, albeit unintentionally at first, and probably mostly inadvertently and/or lazily after they were established as a race). It's more me thinking how much fun it would be to join that forum as a Poe and point it out to him, and wondering what the reactions would be.

Would people jump in to defend my African-American-male-born-lesbian-Jew-whose-grandparents-died-in-Auscwitz from being offended by his avatar? Would they defend him, as he is a mod and therefore cannot be wrong? Would he even thank me for pointing out the stereotypical nature of the Ferengi and change his avatar, implicitly admitting that he'd never noticed that the short, swarthy, money-obsessed, untrustworthy, large-featured, headgear-wearing aliens, who are played almost exclusively by Jewish actors, had anything in common with Jewish stereotypes despite being a clued-up and intelligent crusader for equality?

I'm not going to because, really, who can be arsed? But things like people who fall backwards over themselves to avoid buying in to stereotypes of any kind, to the degree of not using gendered personal pronouns explicitly endorse things which have far more baggage. I mean, come on, you can link his avatar directly to Nazi propaganda far more easily than you can link a statement about deaf people being let down by the current medical model to the viewpoint that people with mental health issues aren't real people at all. And he probably has no clue, because he likes Star Trek so hasn't really given it much thought. And he's a mod there, so nobody else has, either.
