Yes I can see how that would set off the plussers. I suppose the plusser approach would be to say Dr. hall had been co-opted by the patriarchy and doesn't "know" what she's doing.

Weeping Amy just couldn't handle a prominent atheist with two X chromosomes disagreeing with her. The plus apparently stands for "who need an environment where it's safe to destroy diversity of opinion."

I am NOT willing to be called a potential Rapist, the same way I am not willing to be called a potential psycho knife-stabing murderer. Here's my analogy: Being a potential murderer implies that I should be controlled by police or psychiatrist to be sure I would not own a knife, even for vegetables and that I should wear a "tracking GPS ankle bracer" and report to police everyday so they would be sure I was not killing anyone. This would be the same with the "potential rapist", a REAL potential rapist should not be allowed to be alone with a woman or walking the streets unsuspected.

Ps. In your mind I may already be a potential rapist because I already asked a woman, in a bar if she would like to come to my house for cofee and she did!

These people are Stalinist-style revisionists. It's a good idea to cache these pages before they disappear down the memory hole. Freeze Page is a good tool for this.

Not that I care much for the French , but how incredibly condescending! Imagine if this were said to a Hispanic or non-white for whom English is a second language.

The only thing in this area of description I am aware of is from a group of long term pain sufferers. They use the term 'running low on spoons' to explain to people when they are having a bad day, despite the fact they may look perfectly well.

It's the sheer dishonesty of it that gets me. The post is perfectly clear, and while the English is not perfect, there's no difficulty at all in figuring out his meaning. The reason he was told to shut up is that he made a very reasonable point about the term "potential rapist". They weren't willing to engage with the argument, so they found this totally spurious point to quibble over. If he hadn't said he was French, it wouldn't have been noticeable from what he posted.

I have no doubt that if a French woman posted about the fear she has to endure from random male attention, it would have been greeted with applause and assurance that she could carry on posting her broken English as much as she liked.

Are we sure the mod wasn't being facetious? If it were anywhere else, I'd think the mod was kidding. Certainly, the Frenchman's grammar was well above the usual Internet forum standards, and there were no typos that I'd associate with ESL.

I'd have a lot more respect for them if they said "We aren't going to discuss these issues. If you don't accept the principle of the potential rapist, then we would prefer that you not post here." They have a right to do that. However, instead they come up with this crap about language, or reading some other lengthy thread, or checking to see if you've posted anywhere else.

Ugh. That's really disgusting. This was a concept created to explain the lives of people suffering from disabilities such as chronic, debilitating illnesses.

Last time I checked, stupidity and narcissism aren't disabilities.

Getting into otherkin would be interesting, because that would butt up against A+'s alleged skepticism. When are they going to address this, or the furries? Think of the non-furry privilege! But what do you call somebody who self-identifies with their species? Cisspecies?

Same thing with someone who was an alleged UFO abductee. Clearly, those of us who have not been abducted have privilege! And who are they to say that you haven't been abducted? As we all know, dismissing the experiences of the oppressed is the worst abuse of your privilege.
