Oh yeah. There you go. Do 2 million American people think it shows a Bigfoot? Why only a few posting on the web? Very shy folks?
 
The Bigfooters talk about how advanced Patterson must have been to create a suit that would fool people for over 40 years and of course it still is unproven. Yeah, if it really was a myth then nobody would believe.


Look, if you can get 2,007,060 Americans to buy into a hoax then you are awesomely successful. But if you can only get 1% of the population to buy into a hoax then you were an obvious failure.

When only 1 in 100 believe you... you are a big loser for your cause. But in order to get 2 million+ to believe you you must have been some kind of knockout sensation. Right? :D

Sometimes he would be there to discuss and answer questions.

I wonder if he had times where like 29 hands would go up and each person wiould start out saying "I think your film is a hoax, but I wanted to ask you about (film or weather or backstory integrity or whatever)..."

Did you have Q&A sessions where the questioners accused a hoax over and over and over again? Do you think Patterson cut off the questioning after being accused of hoaxing like 17 times in 25 minutes?

Was it like that?

You convinced only 200K people of your scam. Now, if you manage to extract, say, fifty cents from each sucker, your scheme was awesomely successful.

Rather than how advanced Patterson was, they should be asking how advanced the believers are ..

In order to fool people, you need to have a few, urr ummm, fools (?) .....
 
Here's a hilarious development: someone at the BFF is citing a JREF post by the booted administratively suspended Cbengalensis as support for a statement made at the BFF by Bill Munns.

I'm giving up on replacing my irony meter; this one was an Acme, (made by the same company that makes those safes you see in the Patterson movie the Roadrunner cartoons) and that post completely fried its flux capacitor.

The double irony that fried my Acme: the reference was to a possible water bag in the BELLY of PattyBob, not in the fake breasts. Seems Bill put a lot of effort into a breast non-issue.

As far as pgf fooling people for 40 years: When did the pgf go from 'extremely shaky footage of a tiny man-like walking brown thing' to the stabilized blow up of 'the man-like brown walking thing where you can make out 'muscle movement'?
At the end of the 90's/early 2000's? If so, for the first 30 years of it's existence its easy to see why it could possibly fool people.
 
Just thinking, if Bill Munns is doing a TV show detailing the Patty-boob experiment, think of the TV ratings. BIGFOOT & BOOBS? he'll yes.

In case you didn't get it, this was a hidden joke about statistics.

Fooling 2 million people with a prank is a monumental feat. But only fooling 1% of the population is pretty crummy... your prank must have been obvious.

The joke is that 2 million and 1% are the exact same thing in 1968.

Why does the first explanation seem great while the second seems a failure when the compared tally is identical?

I'm convinced. There is no way Odenkirk would have been able to create such a realistic looking Lincoln suit and there is no way for a non-Lincoln to recreate that walk.

But wait, isn't that actually a backstory? I mean, why can you include your opinion of Odenkirk's ability to fabricate a costume but reject an assessment of his ability to fabricate cons?

You know what got Lincoln in trouble, don't you...they told him to go to the theatre and just pay attention to the play itself.

Patterson was touting the "muscle movement" in advertising for his traveling film show. Seems he was proud of the hard work he put into the suit 30 years before it was stabilized enough to make it out.

In the Making of Bigfoot, Al DeAtley discusses their strategy of "four-walling" where they did media blitzes promoting the film before they hit town, and once they did they would lease every venue they could get their hands on from movie theatres to high school gyms, etc. So in a lot of places there was more than venue running at the same time.

I'd like more info on these shows because the film itself is such a short clip it is hard to believe that's all that happened in these theaters they were renting.
