2016 Obama's America documentary

And also regarding its box office numbers and its effect on the election:
While the media is quick to make a connection between box office numbers and ideological sway, historically, this has never proven to be the case. Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11" tapped into anti-Bush fervor around the country, and grossed more money than any documentary ever, but Dubya still won the Presidency. Not far behind, "An Inconvenient Truth" became another one of the highest-grossing documentaries of all time, and yet, have Americans done anything substantive to combat climate change?

Okay, so the anti-Obama doc “2016: Obama’s America,” based on conservative author Dines D’Souza’s book “The Roots of Obama’s Rage,” is continuing a solid box-office run in theaters, but it's not nearly as successful as the media is reporting. And it's not just conservative outlets that are touting its triumphs. For instance, even ABC News misreported that the film's $2.4 million in ticket sales has made "it the 12th highest-grossing political documentary in history," which seems like it was excerpted from a press release. The statement is highly skewed, considering the loose definition of "political documentary." While $2.4 million is definitely a good number for a theatrical documentary, it's no record breaker. (In fact, it ranks 64th, according to Box Office Mojo, but you won't see that statistic in the news.)

This year's "Bully," a documentary about bullying, for instance, earned about $3.5 million this year, but I don't see The Weinstein Company sending out press releases, touting the film as the 6th highest-grossing issue documentary this year. It's a clear case of over-politicizing statistics, something that's all too sadly familiar in this highly contentious political season.

Well obviously a movie filmed by a guy walking around wherever he lived being voiced over by a narrator basically saying 'imagine this but with funny clothes, cooler looking cars, and more of the people you are witnessing going about theirs live now having private health insurance and perhaps even a job' just doesn't really even pay for itself.

People have to understand that D'souza is unabashedly pro-colonial to understand what he means by "anti-colonial" and why he trots it out. Of course, this has lead people to do "The Roots of D'souza's Rage" and show how his background contributes to his own beliefs.

This was all in the last thread :p .

I may return to this thread after some people have actually seen them movie and want to discuss it.

Meanwhile there's just the wanna be socket puppets and shills competing for the prize of most ignorant.

Cheers.

Yawn. This film is just preaching to the converted. I doubt it will have much impact on the election.
It will not do nearly as well as Fahreneint 911,and that film did not keep DUbya from being reelected.
I avoid political documentaries of all political opinions;I don't like paying 10 bucks to see biased propaganda when I can get all I want on the Internet for free....

Socket puppets?

Socket to me! :D

Sure, but you'd need a really big monitor and have to invite a bunch of like minded friends over to match the experience. Which could be fun I guess... Plus, even if you charged half what the theater did, you'd still make a killing on concessions.

Darn those facts. 2016 goes to #3. By the time the convention kicks off that darn movie will have took in 4x it's production cost.

Here’s how things have gone for 2016: Obama’s America, though: Three weekends ago, 2016 earned $34,133 out of 10 theaters, which gave it a per theater average of $3,413 — not all that remarkable for a limited release. When it expanded into 61 theaters the next weekend, its per theater average did a funny thing: it jumped up to $5,202. Last weekend, the film experienced an even bigger expansion, into 169 theaters, and again, its per theater average substantially leapt up to $7,365.

Obviously more people need to be lectured to more stridently by the elite progressives such as those on JREF.

Those people are simply not following correctly.

I exhort the parrots of the minions of the distributers of the latest liberal talking points, to work even harder at this important job.

Someone's got to do it.

Spread the hate.

At all costs - keep them from seeing that movie!

;)

Since an Obama loss will potentially cost me my life excuse me if I'm not thrilled.

I posted this earlier but since you brought the topic up I'll re-post it.

Oh yea, about your "facts:"

Total grossing for documentaries:

1 Fahrenheit 9/11
2 March of the Penguins
3 Justin Bieber: Never Say Never 3,105 2/11/11
4 Earth (2009)
5 Chimpanzee
6 Katy Perry: Part of Me
7 Sicko
8 An Inconvenient Truth
9 Bowling for Columbine
10 Oceans
11 African Cats
12 Madonna: Truth or Dare
13 Capitalism: A Love Story
14 Religulous
15 Winged Migration
16 Super Size Me
17 2016 Obama's America

How about opening weekends:

1 Justin Bieber: Never Say Never
2 Fahrenheit 9/11
3 Chimpanzee
4 Earth (2009)
5 Katy Perry: Part of Me
6 2016 Obama's America

And three of these films came out in 2012, so that makes it the third highest opening weekend for documentaries this year.

This year's "Bully," a documentary about bullying, for instance, earned about $3.5 million this year, but I don't see The Weinstein Company sending out press releases, touting the film as the 6th highest-grossing issue documentary this year. I'll have to see the movie, but I've watched some interviews with D'nesh Dsouza. His thesis seems to be, his father was this, therefore the son is like him too. It seems a little weird being that, from my understanding, Obama barely knew his dad. Furthermore, Obama hasn't been an anti-colonialist, anti-capitalist president.

I'll have to judge for myself I guess when I see the movie. D'nesh Dsouza is also a raging idiot, so I'm sure that will come through in the movie as well.

For some reason conservatives think that ideology is genetic. I suspect this misunderstanding of reality is also what leads them to call evolution "evilution."
