Sadly, politicians who are more candid on TV interviews are not likely to make it as far in the process as Romney has.

I think sound bites have a lot of influence. But somehow Romney is beng so extreme about not answering that it doesn't look natural. I.e. it's waaay too obvious and is being noticed.

Exactly.

Actually I was referring to the fact that Romney's platform seems to be composed almost entirely of claims that Obama hasn't succeeded in causing an economic recovery from Bush's recession. . .fast enough. He doesn't say too much about what he would do differently, and where he has, it's not at all good.

I think he's basically looking for the election to be a referendum on Obama and the bad economy. If he can stay close in the polls and not have to come out with specific policy positions that he can get beat up on; there's little incentive for him to do so. There have been a few voices on right lamenting his lack of specifics, but it's hardly a clarion call at this point. If more polls like the Bloomberg one that came out today start cropping up, he may change strategy.

I agree. It will be interesting to see if in the debates he's allowed to not answer any questions with specifics. I suspect the moderators, with the fear of God / The Republican Propaganda Machine in their ear to wimp out and give him a pass.

I'm looking for the video where Romney was campaigning after Obama was accused of planning to change his policies after being elected (it was after the off-mike comment to Medvedev I think, that he, Obama, would have more leeway on a treaty after the election). Romney made the claim that voters would not have to wait until after the election to find out his policies. They played the clip yesterday on the news. I'll post it if I find it or maybe someone else will find it first.

It's been suggested there is nothing about Romney lying in this thread thus one of the tags was changed. I don't care about the tag but I considered Romney's statements that "we'll have to look at that" and the other evasions were conscious lies. The video reinforces that conclusion.

Maybe not. Romney has not been to good at speaking live. He's made numerous flubs. It depends on whether or not they can ask questions that catch him off guard. If they do, it could be fun.
