"The Republicans’ war on science and reason"

I'd flunk you in any course I taught. You are clearly talking FAR past your actual knowledge or education, and have really zero idea of any of these things you are discussing or criticizing beyond the jingoistic talking points you have picked up from your ideological masters. How much do they pay you?

I take the Fifth.

Remember the Bubonic Plague of the 15th century? Remember the vaccine that ended the Plague?? No? Neither do I. What does that tell you?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plague_(disease)

Looks like the bubonic plaque is still around. Certainly didn't end. But it is not prevalent in first worlds countries, and is treatable. A vaccine does exist for it, but is only given to those with a high risk of exposure.

It tells me that you're totally cool with sticking to your religiously-derived objection to vaccines even if the cost is an epidemic that would kill one-third to one-half the population.

Robert,

Thanks for that link. I would have been about 6 years old in 1955, and I remember the scourge of polio and the kids in the iron lungs and leg braces. But I do not remember this incident, which is horrific.

None of that changes my stance on vaccinations - one reason I'm likely here today to type this is that I avoided so many of the diseases that inoculation prevents.

Still, the linked incident is a tragedy and an important reminder there is rarely benefit without some modicum of risk.

There's a lot more dis-information out there about the "miracle" polio vaccines. Fact is, when mass vaccinations of the Salk vaccine were begun, there had already been a steady decline in infections. Moreover, in order to show how effective the vaccine supposedly was, the Medical Establishment changed the definition of the disease so that many cases which might have formerly been classified as Polio, were classified as Meningitis, thus lowering the number of Polio infections to coincide with the administration of the vaccine. Figures don' lie; but liars figure.

Bottom line: The assertion that vaccines are not dangerous and can be relied upon to not cause the very disease they are supposed to prevent, is a lie.

Name one person here who has made that assertion. Yes, because of the way vaccines work, it is possible to get the disease from the vaccine. However, it is very much less likely to do that than to catch the disease naturally if not vaccinated. Decades of data show that outcomes for those vaccinated is much better than for those not vaccinated.

It is like claiming that working on Wall Street is inherently dangerous because on September 11, 2001 two Wall Street skyscrapers collapsed resulting in the deaths of over 3000 people.

Don't put words in my mouth. The only point I make, is, when deciding whether to step forward on a government's command to put foreign substances into your body or the bodies of your children, it might be wise to Think Twice.

Whether immoral or amoral, people who do promiscuous sex get high rates of STDs.

What so ever you shall sew, that you shall also reap. And, it's a very foolhardy thing to try to fool Mother Nature.

Ah yes the wisdom of bronze age goat herders is what we should base sex education on in 2011.

(I know I stole the goat herders phrase from someone here and I apologize for not being able to give proper credit.)

I think you stole it from Thunderf00t.

Also, this thread makes me sad.

It tells me the plague ran out of people to kill. Not the way I want epidemics to end.

By your logic, if a mass murderer has killed everyone in a room and has nobody else left to slaughter then he must have been caught and brought to justice.

No, the fact is that like any other disease the infection rate would rise and fall and different intervals. Lying vaccine murderers like to point to fractions of the infection chart and make it seem as if Polio was going away on its own. When the vaccine came into play Polio was in a decline -at that time. But diseases like polio don't decline to nothing on their own and thy come back quickly in new epidemics.

"Polio was going away on its own" is standard issue lie from the epidemic loving crowd. Its been debunked plenty of times.

That it's better to work on a vaccine before the disease kills 1/3 of the population.

You actually fell for that malarky? Most people wouldn't have.

Yes, infections had slightly declined; People were so afraid that they had started keeping children away from each other. Public pools and parks and amusements started looking like ghost towns.

But, I'll wager you never even questioned this bald lie you were told and are now trying to retail to us, right?

Remember when it killed about 50% of Europe?

edit: oops, didn't notice I wasn't on the last page. I have been beaten to the punch :(

What kind of mentality does it take to look at a demonstrated, effective cure for one of the most devastating diseases in history and go "Nah! I won't do that. I gotta show off how much more-distrustful-of-the-gubmint I am than everyone else."

It might be good to be duplicating the statement. The fact that he made such a foolish argument means that it might not sink in that millions dead is not a great solution.
