Occupy <Your Town>

I'm actually quite shocked by the level of incompetence, greed and group-think in the financial world.

Am I going to protest? No.

A. I have a job and thus no time for that sort of thing.
B. I met one of the protesters last weekend he wanted to abolish money and thought the Illuminati were behind it all.

He seems quite typical for the protesters.
This is going nowhere.

Well the US protests seem to have some more legitimate concerns.

There already were folks "occupying" Pittsburgh. First they wanted to do it in the neighborhood of Shadyside, like the usual lazy protestors who prefer to mess up local small businesses (and a few big ones, ask me about the G-whatever protestors and the Apple Store windows someday). Then they were covinced to move downtown with a legit marching route and everything.

Haven't heard much since, but I think there have been some folks still "dahntahn". Like most Pittsburghers, I don't go there much anyway. :D

Here's David Allen Green's article on the LSX and St Paul's closure. Goes into detail about the health & safety issues:

I walk past the St Paul's at least twice a day. I have no particular sympathy for many of the causes promoted by the protesters, but over the last ten days I have been impressed by how the camp, and the protesters generally, have conducted themselves. The camp is clean, there is no significant impediment to the Cathedral steps or any other entrance, and there appears to be no graffiti or other damage...But my happy and subjective impression could be entirely wrong. It may well be that there are real dangers presented by this camp.

Um, I may be a bit behind but are these protesters actually talking about any reasonable course of action that could be taken? Or are they just griping?

I mean, the Vietnam War protests in the USA at least had reasonable demands that could be met with a little work, end the war and give those who can be drafted voting rights. I'd have no problem joining a protest with real goals but just complaining doesn't really help anyone.

The protestors here in San Francisco continue to look more and more like Marx's lumpenproletariat every day. Justin Herman Plaza has become ground zero for every whack job from Lyndon Larouche supporters to Socialist/Labor party organizers to Ron Paul enthusiasts.

Riverside has been occupied. It's pretty low-key, but we saw them marching past a couple of the local bars. I think a few of them slipped in for drinks and then marched back out.

Well the US protests seem to have some more legitimate concerns.

Speak for your own town. Here in San Francisco we have a group of about a couple dozen camping at the Embarcadero and a slightly larger group "occupying" the Federal Reserve Bank.

Yeah, no matter how much I might sympathize with the idea that wage disparity and stagnation is a problem I just cannot get on board with a movement that seems to be teeming with conspiracy theorists.

The one thing I would think a rational group would want is some sort of commentary or discussion on their message or reason for occupation.

The only thing I've seen about the SF/Oakland groups is that they don't like news crews.

If you want the support of folks watching TV, scaring the cameraman doesn't seem like the best move.

The whole thing is a bloody joke. One of my friends posted a link saying she was trying to sell a Longines watch for $1100. Then reposted a quote from Oakland moaning about the lack of equality in the world.

Well, it's been snowing for 24 hours in Denver - I bet not a lot is happening today.

I think some of these protestors have this bizarre notion that if we "spread the wealth" evenly we'll all live like corporate CEOs. Boy are they in for a rude surprise if they ever get anywhere.

I would feel a bit of a hypocrite whining about Corporate Greed given that I'm already phenomenally better off than the vast majority of the world's population.

My town has a population a little over 300. I wish some people would come and occupy it; it would be nice to have some company for a change.

There was something here (Charleston W.Va) in the park next to my office for about two weeks. Then... the weather changed. Not there anymore.

Too bad. I have a banker friend and I sort of wanted to go over there with a sign with his name on it saying that he sucks. I'm sure he'd use the picture of that as his Xmas card this year...

Seattle's been weird. Lots of infighting. Lots of pointless fighting with the mayor's office. They started off topic and have remained so. It's pretty much been taken over by the anarchist/libertarian factions at this point here as far as I can tell as they've spent so much time railing against government that they've lost track of the general movement having a lot to do with maybe getting some damn regulations in place.

It's amazing how much ground the anarchists have gained lately. I guess by pretending they want "smaller government" they can hide the absolute ridiculousness of their philosophy.
